An unexpected but welcome surprise. An important thing to note:
Q removes slows which is important if you're being kited or trying to get away. Silence duration is 1.5 sec which is enough to burst someone.
W shield only lasts almost a second but you get 30% dmg reduction on top of free mr & armor in return
E 6th hit removes 25% armor and the closest target also receives 25% bonus dmg. You can get on top of him if you wanna reduce dmg if your carry is being spun on. You can also go behind minions to make him push the wave as well
R You can stop your spin by casting ult
counters: shields, spell shields, good peel, Guardian Angel or zhonyas, true dmg, almost everyone if they play smart and don't get hit by the q
For sure all these KR Grandmaster/Chall are playing bad since they're getting Qed

biggest counter is not letting him play the game cause he's garen if you can manage to set up a freeze against garen before he can get a good amount of W stacks, then not throwing your bounty to all the true damage garen does is the name of the game

That would however encourage him to leave the lane and start roaming. I did that against an actually good Irelia who did exactly this and I won off his teammates and preventing her from making plays by silencing her with Q and executing her.

As a Garen enjoyer, I have to say that you forgot to add a comment at 7:45 about how he doesn't use Q until Anivia is almost up so she is silenced and can't stun him.
He waits for Q cd, then auto attacks and uses Q right before Anivia is revived for the silence.
Garen IS a good champ. You just need to learn his kit and use it at the right time and he is one of the most annoying bruisers in the game. Lots of damage, survivability etc

It looks like it's braindead at first glance for many, but managing to reach GM with such a predictable champion is incredibly hard, and even harder in korea. In high elo Garen is all about the little things.

In a vacuum it is difficult, except garen's already has a 53.5% wr at all ranks and 51.5% plat+, it's suffice to say the champion is overstat and when you have a champion of garen's nature, who is very good at punishing one or two mistakes with those very stats, his predictability doesn't make him weak by any means

This Garen seems to do well against Quinn and Kayle, matchups that riste usually bans
Its essentially from the same 3 game and he was magically even in farm before the first solo kill so idk man
I can’t reach Quinn if her E is up, how the fuck can I do that guys? I saw many replays, mostly Garen get his jungler to help, but I’m just silver Garen and my jungler never comes to me even if I’m freezing for 3 minutes.

Idk what you're implying here, garen relies heavily on macro making it harder and less viable than the other overloaded top laners that can 'outplay' bad situations with bs micro. I find this more impressive than a fiora 1v3 ing due to her stupid kit

I’ve never really put much thought into taking magical footwear on a laner, but for an immobile champion like garen the extra 10 movement speed you get is actually huge and it’s even higher because of the runes he takes in the sorcery tree

@@EpicBunty He has a single burst of move speed on Q and that's it. Compare to Talon or Kayn who ignore walls, or Fizz who has both a dash and a jump.
@@LutraLovegood yea but its like a 5 sec CD on his Q, it removes all slowing effects and it lasts for so long sure hes not the most mobile, but i dont think a fizz or talon is catching him so easily. not to mention his mythics also grant him move speed. and u can get runes for that too.

Simple champs are more difficult at higher levels because the possibility of out plays is smaller, hence the player has to play well and make good decisions. People think that a mechanically complex champion is more difficult to play, but given enough time you can master whatever champ. I think making good decisions is more difficult than mastering a champ.

I’m stacked to be garen main xD Simple and useful kit, not overloaded af. Good to learn fundamentals of wave control, roaming and other stuff than smashing my face into keyboard.
as a former garen main, i can tell you rightnow that you can cast Q while spinning, and immediately do an empowered auto the moment you stop spinning. you can also cast Q before casting E, and your empowered auto will last longer than the spin.
U might wanna save it till they cast their slows or dash away. U also lose out on the free auto reset.

i have 600k points on garen and i have recently discovered a new feature
when you spin for 0.2 to 1 sec then R you can get and auto off during the R animation
garen E can’t be canceled manually before 1 sec
the standard combo is less efficient since you need to manually end E then auto then R and the auto is instantaneous
this new combo is still really niche since you don’t encounter situations where you need maximum damage output in 1.2 sec while you could have a much greater damage output with a little more time or kill your target a bit slower to save either E or R
the only case it can get in use is to burst a carry during the Q silence, where the carry has high tenacity
+ it is as hard to reproduce as a yasou keyblade

Mistake corrected.
As a walking stat stick, garen already has sufficient damage even without conqueror, and phase rush really suits his in-and-out short trade playstyle
90% of my match history, I use phase rush. On certain matchups where even your speed is useless (camille, akshan, jax, zed, talon, katarina and the like) its better to go predator or conqueror, but most likely predator for squishies and conqueror for tankier ones
ignite is crucial in running phase rush when you dont have stridebreaker yet

There's one more garen mechanic not covered in this video that is actually really useful. You can flash partway thru garen's R animation and still have the damage go thru. Not right away, but about halfway thru the animation. This can be really useful for dodging CC or a tower shot. As a former masters garen OTP I've used this plenty of times to survive tower dives that otherwise would've killed me, especially when dodging CC under tower.

What is prioritized first depending if the enemy is ranged or melee? Will it always be focus on Q to max first then E and W later or E first to max then Q next and W last? E deals a lot of damage because boots give attack speed.
If ranged you do lvl 1 Q and then lvl 4 n 5, you Max E.
If melee you just put 1 point un Q and then Max E

Best tip I have for Brush bait is to fake recall by the edge of the bush, and walk into the bush when the recall is just about finished. So many people will think you recalled and walk up.

Another note for everyone from a Garen main
E shreds armor if they get hit 6 times. If the enemy laner doesn't have CC or a spell you need to deny early, hit them with E first before smacking them Q for more damage.
This build is more of an AD build rather than a juggernaut. Consider your team comp as well as the enemy's before committing to this build. Be flexible.
And u stack conquer too so ur q hits like a truck

I think stride breaker and serylda's grudge would make a fine Slow Combo along with phase rush I haven't played league PC in 3 years now cuz potato PC can't run LoL without crashing I'm only playing in WR and I always goes for Black cleaver and Serylda's grude for slow and armor reduction
Youd be better off with dead man's plate or force of nature, instead of serylda, even when facing tanks
Garen can be squishy if you only get damage, and a tanky garen deals more damage than a dead one.
I think garen E onces proc on-hit but it got cancelled because it was to op
