- In this video, I analyze Earl Sweatshirt's writing approach on Voir Dire so that writers like you and me can learn from it and improve our own writing styles and creative projects. This was a super fun video to do and I'm loving the new album that he and The Alchemist put out - this definitely won't be the last time I talk about it!
What are your thoughts on Voir Dire? What other interesting things have you noticed about Earl's writing style? Let's talk about it in the comments!
Discord Server (work in progress warning!): / discord
Also, few people have asked me to give feedback on their writing so if that sort of thing interests anyone I'd be happy to give thoughts and support! Send anything you'd like over to unknownreviews777@gmail.com
And lastly, thank your insights, support, and contributions to this community! Much love!

that’s what “big words” are for. not to flex your intelligence (as people afraid of them often claim to protect their pride), but to say the same thing faster by using a word packed with more nuance than the most basic synonym that needs 10 other words padded around it to convey the same specificity. people really let the education system make them hate sound symbols😂
The idea of shifting your view of words and such is exactly what opened up my writing. Woods, ELUCID, Earl, DOOM, and Boldy all changed the way I viewed writing to some extent because of how they can put things together like no one else can in their own unique ways.
100% I had the exact same experience - ESPECIALLY with Armand Hammer. Sir Benni Miles probably single handedly changed how I approach all of my raps now. their style of writing is so versatile, detailed, AND flexible while still being accessible at the same time. doesn't get any better imo
this has been one of my favorite serieses on yt
thats such a kind thing to say. means alot to me fr!!
Hard pfp bro🔥
@@kidxtreme2812 thanks, it's one of my fav albums
Nice work. I also took his "re-allocate me my own fucking land" to be a sort of anti-ownership sentiment. A historical analysis (excavation) shows that ownership of land taken by force (i.e., colonialism) is now only being partitioned to those whose land was stolen in the first place. I felt like Noname would've loved that line.
oh i was waiting for this
glad I could get it done for you! hope you enjoyed!
would you be interested in ever doing some of these deep dives into mac miller's writing, maybe how it changed over the years or something?
I would love it if you did an analysis on Ka
thank you for this video brother! love from portugal!
portugal! one of my bucket list places to visit someday! much love and thank you for the support!
Amazing breakdown, love every single one of your analyses.
thank you so much!!!!!
Love your analyses. They are very inspiring while I’m in and out of my own writing zone. This is a unique series snd it seems you’re the only doing this on youtube.
One request i have is could you start including audio snippets of the songs that you reference? It would be super helpful for songs that i never heard before. And would stop me from having to pause the video and go and listen, sometimes forgetting to return altogether
love these so much man, thank you
Thank you for this series. I’m glad Marci been included in this as well.
I wanna learn how to write like earl on the voir dire album 🔥🔥
Love your takes man! That area about emphasizing words is interesting to me because it can be easy to pick a word because it fits a ryhme scheme, but even if the word is close enough (like excavate/dig up/unearth/etc) depending on the line, it can lead to the line becoming unnecessarily headscratchy with no pay off for it. It's subtle, but yeah, the shit that impact's listeners can be super subtle I find. Even when listening to some lines, it can be "WTF, why is it so awkward? it's clear when i seperate the line, but sounds like word soup when it's being rapped".
Always enjoy your stuff.
DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN was waiting for it so badly
love your breakdowns content like this is so important but so hard to find. are you planning on doing anything from billy woods and Kenny segal's new project the storytelling on soft landing and NYC Tapwater is insane
thanks man I really appreciate it! Yeah I’d love to make another video on maps - I did a reaction but always wanted to do a breakdown. It’s on my list (but my list is so long at this point 😭). Hoping I can get to it soon! Also soft landing is my fav track off the album after Agriculture!!
another great video dylan :) keep it up
love the breakdown!
thank you!!
Can you do a video on Joey Badass or Capital STEEZ? I feel like they both also play with the English language in cool ways especially at such young ages
Most underated channel on yt
thank you!!!
Man, I would love for you to do a video like this for Pharoahe Monch. Not enough videos are made about that dude.
Great video
Great vid! Do you have your beats available anywhere? That one at the start was so good
thank you so much!! original music will be out soon! I'm hoping by the end of the year. there's a verse to go along with that beat too - can't wait to share it with you all :)
@@unknownreviews7259 amazing!! can’t wait to hear it
❤️❤️❤️
💜💜
Vwaahhh deer is how you pronounce it
King krule lyrics hit me different too
I thought your analysis was great, Earl's one of my favorite writers. Would love to know what you think about MAVI's music
Thank you!! I’ve got a ton of requests to cover MAVI - I’ve really got to get around to it. Any song in particular you think is good for analysis?
@@unknownreviews7259 Self care, Town Crier, and Miracle Baby are a few of my favorites. There's something so hypnotizing to me about his delivery and flow. Especially on Miracle Baby, it almost feels as if there isn't a single syllable out of place. But, aye man, I've been enjoying your channel. Keep up the good work.
Please do Aesop Rock
was watching the other 2 videos, while listening to the album
