    Finally somebody that knows about mastlength and recommend right to the people! Too long mast is one of the biggest mistake you can do! Great video!

    Let's talk about how people get back upwind. Are people getting the bus with their 8' board? Or doing the fandango parking one vehicle at the end point and driving back to start doing it with friends.... Personally I'm just loving winging up wind then having a blast going back to the start point.

    Thanks Gwen! Very helpful as a bunch of us are trying to figure out what size board and foil to use as we contemplate going from winging to downwind foiling. Embrace the struggle! Love it.

    At the end somebody talking about flotability is a friend, every body is using same theority like wingfoil and this is another sport. Im not agree about the wide of the board, i have friends that never was in a stand up paddle, and they buy a narrow board and is imposible to be up there in the dw moment, in flat yes but in dw conditions not. Down 22 is for people who has some background of stand up paddle. Nice video 💪💪

      Greetings! I am 41 years old, weight 88 kg, height 174 kg. I have 3 years of experience with a paddle and wine, but no experience with hydrofoil. I want to do downwind on the river with a paddle in flat and downwind especially. I'm afraid to make a choice, I'm especially worried about the width of the board, so that it won't be too difficult if it's narrow for me. Therefore, I am not considering the 8'×19' 5 option yet, is it really so difficult for a beginner to stand on a long and narrow board?
      And therefore it is worth choosing on
      Kalama E3 6'5×23'5' 116 liters. Will this be enough for a beginner's stability?
      Or there is a Kalama 6'5×27'5 , 130 liters.?
      What is your opinion? The main goal is downwind on the river.

    Hello
    Always great video very interesting !
    Just maybe one thing important missed :
    The weight more around 6kg that 8kg
    It was an important factor for my decision 😊
    When you have All the other choice done ….

    Thank you for the great videos as usual. What about dw boards for big dawgz who weigh above 95kg? 110kg 140 liters is a sinker. Any companies making dw boards with more volume than that?

    I did years of SUP in the waves and always used a paddle that would be about 6" inches over my height. I might try something shorter for DW foiling...

    Very informative as usual, thank you very much. I will be starting my DW journey on the Duotone 7.8 (175lbs) no supping background only winging 3 years coming from 30+ years of windsurfing. I’m on Slingshot Phantasam my go to is the PTM899 what would you recommend from their lineup to start?
    Cheers.
    Amine.

    Thanks for the video, Gwen!
    I’ve been looking at the KT Dragonfly 7’7 110L as my first SUP DW board. Tried it on flat water and I can stand on it without any problems (can’t paddle up yet).
    Do you think it’s going to be stable enough for choppy ocean with irregular swell period?
    The AFS 8,0 also looks nice.
    I am 79kgs (174lbs).

      Hard to tell as it has a lot to do with skill level. But reach out to us on our website and we can help you pick the right one: wingfoilprocenter.com

    Any thoughts on a single footstrap.. say 1 front footstrap that could give more of a locked in feeling as yoh paddle up? I haven't seen any of the pros using front footstraps.. but has anyone tried to see if it makes a difference? Thanks for the great video!

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I feel like being able to make small adjustments of your feet when on a DW SUP foil board outweighs the benefit of a foot strap

    Spend alot time in Dahab Egypt and near hoorn in holland with enough wind. Tried wingfoil 7x but my right shoulder is partly paralized and tough to keep it up longer while. This maybe easier? Both on the lake and red sea not much swell

    I see new sizes of the AFS WhiteBird on your website. How do they compare with other downwind boards of similar size?

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  Před 11 dny

      The bigger sizes Whitebird are specifically designed for beginner DW SUP foilers with stability being the main focus. So for someone looking to learn the sport, those are great options!

    What's the yellow thing clipped to the shoulder of your impact vest Gwen?

  • @wingfoil34
    @wingfoil34 Před 4 měsíci

    I understand from your video that you recommend using a width of no more than 23', but if I'm afraid that I won't be able to stand on such a narrow one, then if I take Kalama e3 6'5"×27'5", 130 liters , we only have these on sale. Will it be very difficult to rise above the water on this wide board, or is it still possible for a beginner? My weight is 88kg.

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  Před 4 měsíci +1

      It will be very hard to get up on foil with a 27” wide board, unless maybe the swell you have is steep enough to give you a good push

  • @GravyMonPlan
    @GravyMonPlan Před 4 měsíci

    should i go straight into downwinding or start with wingfoil? Most of the locations I can go to don't have big swells or big winds.

    Thank you! Do you think starboard 7.4” 21.5 wide Together with a sabfoil levithan 1350 would be good to start with? For Fw paddleup and downwind in small slow waves?

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  Před 4 měsíci +1

      The 1350 Leviathan is perfect to practice flat water paddle up, but a bit too slow to ride any small swell

    At around 1:09 the video shows that at least 2 of the 3 foils are very far forward - is that the recommended position for DW SUP Foiling? Thanks for the video, very helpful!

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Foil position depends on the board and foil combo, and riders’ preference, so it hard to say a specific position for downwinding
