Oh come on! Maggie Smith's best line in the entire series is in the Christmas special of season 2 when Mary dumps Sir Richard and he says, "I'm leaving in the morning. I doubt we'll meet again". The Dowager: "Do you promise?" Absolute classic.

I love the scene in season 1 when Violet goes to Matthew's office and has trouble with the chair she sits in. Matthew tells her it was designed by Thomas Jefferson and she says, 'why must every day involve a fight with an American?'
