Looked to me like a missing plastic nut on that float valve to hold it tight onto the side of the trough. Should have one either side to hold it secure.

I wonder if the chopping and fluffing increase the surface area to the point where the straw absorbs more and so you'd use fewer bails?
the theory is you use less... but we are in a lucky spot we have plenty and use all the drug ourselves

With the Spreadabale, can't you get them so they mount sideways on the headstock? That way you could just shut the cattle back in the pen and bed them from the muck passage. Definitely agree with the manual spreading though, we've always done it and helps give you a good rapport with the stock. Only downside is being in amongst dusty straw that'll give you farmers lung eventually.

I much prefer the bale spreader to a bale chopper. Doesn’t create as much dust and lag every surface in a layer of crud. But as you said, the downside is you have to drive into the pens instead of directing a spout to shoot it into them….. it’s all swings and roundabouts I guess 🤷♀️

Looks like a cock of a machine, to far out in front and looks dangerous, you'd be better off with teagle on the front of the JCB least you can control exactly where to point the blower and even the bed the bulls easier in front .
