Skylar's special move is making a huge uncomfortable scene until the other person lets her have her way. She does it with the jewelry store, the locksmith, here and once more later on. I respect it. Here she's more just actually losing her shit, but it still qualifies.

@@Darthrad52 What you call “fumbling” can more accurately be described as incredible impromptu problem solving skills. Walt, with a few occasional exceptions, acts logically and intelligently, more so than any other character and the two people reacting to him. Those exceptions are never related to his lack of intelligence or common sense like the reactors would have you believe, constantly referring to him as stupid or ignorant but due to his ego or pride; an example being getting drunk at dinner and discouraging Hank’s belief that Gale was Heisenberg. All that being said, since it has to be spelled out to so many of you who are incapable of consuming media splayed out before you; I’m not saying Walt is a wholly good guy or maybe you can argue he’s complete evil but you cannot call him unintelligent, stupid, or fumbling.

Walt's cancer rules out the Gus path as an option, the man is on the clock. Also, he and Gus had very different motives. Gus is motivated by revenge and needed to build an empire capable of taking on the cartel. Walt is clearly in the game for the love of the game, and the spoils of victory might as well just be points on a scoreboard. He just wants to play and win. The man is having the time of his life.
He's not challenging Mike on paying off his network because he's clueless, he's challenging him because it's the first time in his life he's had the confidence to flex on people, and he can't get enough of it. Sure, that's silly, but for a guy who spent 5 full decades as a doormat the appeal of it should be obvious. Also, it's very likely he's feeling Mike out for his openness to the much cheaper Lydia method of dealing with the guys on Gus's payroll. And it does make sense for him to put Mike in a position of running actions through him first, even if he's going to eventually defer to Mike's judgment. It forces Mike to explain the situation and his reasoning for why this is the best option available. Mike is a smart and competent guy, but he's not the word of god. If he were that much smarter than Walt, he wouldn't be in the position he is now of working for him against his own better judgement.

    • @chrisadraheim
      @chrisadraheim Před 16 dny +14

Walt's major self-owns are usually not from his criminal scheming, but from his attempts to protect Hank and Jesse. If he were cold-blooded enough to let Gus kill either of them, Walt is walking on sunshine from season 3 onward. Even more so if he had given up on his marriage and started living separately from the family.
He could work for Gus possibly indefinitely, the DEA without Hank would be completely clueless, Gus would take care of the Salamanca family as he did, and Walt gets richer than the Gretchen and Elliot. Maybe he could get something going with Lydia. Skyler obviously wants to keep Walt's criminality secret from Walt Jr., and Gus's legitimate businesses could provide legal cover for Walt's income.
If you really want to talk about dumb criminal decisions, Gus made Walt the lynchpin of his empire, then decided it was worth ruining that golden goose situation over the two certainly replaceable street-level dealers that killed Tomas.

I disliked Walt. I consider him the villain of this story.
Now what I find a bit annoying is seeing people putting the fanboy/fangirl label on anyone that tries to at least paint a nuanced picture of the character.
Yes some people are fanboying and it's equally annoying.
Yes some people are responding to these reactions with way too much passion when, in reality, it's not that big of a deal.
But to be fair, most of the comments I see are pointed toward the lack of nuance in Maple and Arianna's interpretations of the different characters.
I find a lot of valid points in these comments, but if you disagree feel free to respond with you own take and let's have a conversation.

@@Unherist I just find it pretty silly that people get so offended on Walt's behalf. Sure, I don't think diegesis are seeing his character perfectly rationally and yes they are heavily negatively biased against him. But this is a reaction video. The point isn't for the reactor to affirm the viewer's own opinions, but for us to see someone's honest reaction to the show. And I think it's an obnoxious fun-killer when half the comments are people going "Let me explain to you why you're completely wrong about this fictional character."
As for Walt himself, personally I love him as a main character to watch, but that's because he is extremely flawed and not meant to be admired and therefore interesting. He's obviously a very smart man, a minor genius when it comes to chemistry, but he is also very stupid and short-sighted in other ways when his ego is involved. I think his character is perfectly summed up *SPOILERS* by Hank later in the season when he says to Walt, "You're the smartest guy I ever met, and you're too stupid to see..."

Then he manipulated Jesse to make him think he saved mike in season 4 to steal him away from Walt so he can have the formula and a cook willing to put it to use without Walt. Gus is more of a Control freak than Walt ever was. Walt didn’t like his boot on his neck nor did he liked his appending doom, nor did he like someone stealing his intellectual property. It might have been the battle of Egos and Walt won by outwitting Gus. By using his control obsession against him. If Gus allowed Tyrus to do Hector by himself as he proposed he would still be alive. What game was Walt supposed to play with "Daddy Gus"? The game where he sits back and lets Jesse get murdered? Walt broke with Gus over protecting Jesse. If Gus wants to be "Daddy Gus" he needs to pay the price. That means accommodating the special issues with your uniquely talented resources. If Jesse doesn't like how Gus' street dealers are doing business, Gus should be feeding the dealers into a woodchipper, because you can always find another hood to sell on the corners, but Walter's meth talent is unique. This is his issue that's the equivalent of a movie star demanding the studio put up his entourage on location, or the rock star who wants a huge bowl of only brown M&Ms in his dressing room. The name of the game is keeping the talent happy. Walt & Jesse are the talent, and the dealers are the record store clerks. Did Phil Spector ever fire a member of his number one artist's backing band because the guy had a beef with a record store clerk, or a concert usher?
"Daddy Gus" had the exact same compulsive, self-destructive need for control that Walt has. Just like Skyler. And that's why they have been broken by Walt. And that's what is going on with Mike. Mike is flexing on Walt, he is trying to make himself feel less small, because for two seasons in a row, Mr I'm-So-Competent, Mr. I've-Seen-It-All has been left flabbergasted by Walt outmaneuvering him and his security precautions and whack a key member of Gus' organization. Walt might not be Jesse James, but neither is Mike. Just because you were one of Jesse James' lackeys and he got killed (on your watch) does not bump you up to Jesse James. But Mike had Walt take out two dealers, a cook and his two top henchmen, plus Gus, and then he (with Jesse's help, but then, who taught Jesse science?) manages to destroy the evidence Mike thought was impossibly out of reach.
And now, all of Mike criminal know-how and all of Gus' business acumen could not protect their funds from Walt's brother-in-law, and so he NEEDS Walt in order to make back the money to take care of his guys (because letting them turn rat or get killed to silence them would be another failure in Mike's mind). And Mike can't admit it, his pride and ego won't let him bend his neck or display any humanity to this mere science nerd. He hates that he needs Walt and that he can no longer hand down orders or treat him with the superior attitude he displayed when he was Gus' muscle & Walt the cook. And that's what all his arguments with Walt are really about. Walt is nitpicking the expenses and Mike is asserting them as snottily as possible, because they are in a pissing contest for the top dog. Since Walt was diagnosed, trying to dominate him has gone well for exactly zero people.
Mike is the guy who was leading Walt down into his lab to kill him for being loyal to Jesse, and only paused when Walt offered to give him Jesse's name and location, except he was able to warn Jesse to kill Gail instead. So from that perspective, Mike's rationale about loyalty and not murdering your own people smells like bullshit. Mike isn't nearly as opposed to murder or loyal to his associates as he likes to pretend, or at least his stance on such issues keeps redounding to Walt's detriment.

Walt knows this, and knows that by talking about Jesse's potential future with Andrea and Brock but making it conditional on him being honest with her about "Gale and the rest," Jesse would more likely break things off with her than involve her in the world that has already taken so much from him (and her, although she doesn't totally realize it).

Jesse : was a drug dealer before Walt ever met him and lazy and ignorant and a looser and Walt’s Achilles heal throughout the Tv show. Every fall from Grace (from the bathtub - to Gus ) he was behind it every time. And the only reason Walt didn’t kick him out or water him is because he loves him like a son (But we feel sorry for him cause he went through a lot)
Saul : is a yellow book for criminals and a Criminal himself.
Gus : through his product and what he does to maintain his business is basically a mass murterer. (And maybe even in his time in Chile as an army officer)
Mike : was an assassin. A cleaner.
    Marie : a klepto
Hank : a man who loves to be the center of attention even during another man’s birthday and he keeps on teasing him as if he was his an inferior. (Me real man Walt nerd) he only started to respect him when Walt’s demeanor changed because he became a mn who flirts with death constantly and even handled it better than frank did throughout a whole season (the irony on who is really tough and built for war)
Sky : liar - cheater - fraud and it all comes naturally.
    Ted : a fraud
But somehow Walter in the eyes of people managed to become the worst because he does what everyone above do. But he has an ego while doing it 😂 and according to popular believe Walt is the storm who rampaged through all of their lives. (Well if that is true, I’m glad he did. Not only they deserve it but it makes for a great show) love to Walter White the destroyer of destroyers.
(Walter Jr and Broke are innocent collaterals, Holly is too young to remember) but if you are allowed to not care about all the lives that daddy Gus destroyed I can acknowledge daddy’s Walt sins and still prefer him to all ❤
