You guys’ selling point is that your reactions weren’t just making faces, you were a *commentary* channel. You provided good insight into how you were experiencing the film. There was nothing cheap about that, it’s an entirely legitimate form of critique. And you were also a channel that provided good post-analysis, I always stuck around for your discussion. And I liked how you were building a catalogue of reviews. You guys had built something with a lot of potential. But I think your later reactions show that the energy had been sucked out of it for you. Good to see how you progress.
Seconded!
Indeed. I missed them a lot! They seem to be the most insightful reactors
Please still keep all the old reaction videos I still watch them all back now and then
We will never delete any of our old videos, they're apart of our channel and we love them
The older I become, the more I realize making your passion your job comes with loads of risk. Boundaries are precious, you do what works for you.
I'm not going anywhere - I've stuck around for so long because of you two guys, and your chemistry together - that was the key thing. Massively respect you for being honest not only with us, but yourselves - it shows a maturity that others should aspire to. Onwards and upwards, and I look forward to everything you do next.
Tom, congrats on baby no. 2! Looking forward to the new era of Cinema Rules!
Podcast makes sense because it gives space to talk in depth about many filmmaking topics. I’m here for this natural evolution of the channel
My condolences to Shawn for the breakup. Those are always rough. Had a friendship breakup myself earlier this year and am still recovering from it. All the love to you guys. I'm excited for this new chapter 🖤
Will support anything you guys do! Appreciate you switching it up and trying to stay fresh for your selves and audiences ❤
We appreciate your support and understanding of where we're coming from
@@CinemaRulesI do understand
Aw man. I really loved this channel because you guys were reacting to movies a lot of other people weren't. I'm not big on podcasts so I guess it's goodbye for me but I'm happy you guys are happy with this new direction. Good luck!
Love these guys. Hope they never stop
I guess this is what it feels like to be broken up with. "It's not you, it's me." 🤣
LOVED you guy's honesty and I 100% get it. Movies are supposed to be the perfect escapism and when joy is not derived from doing the reactions then there's no point in doing them. Cause believe it or not viewers can always tell when your heart is not in it. And I appreciate you finding other ways rather than quitting the channel. 🙌
I second this. We CAN tell when they are phoning it in. I think this was the best thing for them and us. They need to find joy in this again. I love watching these guys. I think they could do lots of things aside from movies and I would follow. It's their chemistry, not their content as much.
Thanks for being so honest! I'm glad you guys will be doing this in a way you enjoy 😊🔥I'll be staying subscribed~
Thank you for your comment, these comments make our day!
I'm so happy for you guys. I love listening to podcasts in my own language (turkish), almost half of my day, while I am doing my work, podcasts are playing in the background. I love your channel, so I'm very happy that you're going to make a podcast. I can now understand everything while watching videos. It's time to listen to podcasts in English. I hope I can understand. A new challenge for me lol
I enjoy watching movie reaction videos for entertainment, especially for films I have already seen. While I'd prefer to watch movies with my relatives and friends, they often seem too busy or uninterested when I suggest a film. As a result, these reaction channels serve as a substitute for that experience. It's more fun to share a movie with someone I know, but watching these channels is the next best thing. I appreciate that you want to expand your channel, but I mainly watch these types of videos to see reactions to movies I'm familiar with.
listening to fellow passionate movies fans has always been the main draw, so I'm all for the podcast.
Howdy from north Texas fellers! Thanks for all your hard work and putting a little English flavor to my days! I’ll be there for the first podcast and am very excited about it! Adios for now!
Will definitely keep watching, and when you release the podcasts on Spotify, will listen to them when I work from home 👍🏼 good luck guys
Podcast is on Spotify now! open.spotify.com/show/2s2Jm0iUKfj0cYjd0ifzQN?si=L-U81mAMRUWT0ZEqltVWPg
I’m definitely still subscribing. I’d rather watch whatever you guys wanted to do, rather than see the channel end due to burnout.
Definitely sticking with the channel. If anything, the whole podcast format has made me even more interested in your channel. Best of luck.
I would say that finding reaction channels like you guys in the last couple of years, really helped reignite my passion for film and cinema. Before then I had found myself gradually falling out of love with movies, mostly because in the last 10 years, I haven't had as much time on my hands as I used to and also like you said about life just getting in the way. I think I related to you guys because you're roughly the same age as me, so watching your videos did kind of feel like vicariously hanging out with friends watching films. Most of my IRL friends don't really watch or think about films the same way I do, which is fine to each their own, so I usually have to seek out this sort of content online instead. I do think that podcasts are a better medium for long form discussions and commentaries which I personally prefer more than the fickleness of seeing someone react in the moment to a scene/film you love before moving on which kind of feels like a flash in the pan if that makes sense. Good on you for deciding to go your own way and whichever road you do go down in the near future I'll keep following.
I'm in! I much prefer podcasts anyway (they get me through my workouts 😂). I always preferred the end parts when you both talked about your opinions and reasons for liking/disliking certain aspects.
Wishing you all the best with it and hopefully your followers will stick around for it.
We appreciate the support! We'll support you through your workouts and you can support us through watching/listening! haha much love
@@CinemaRules deal!😅
I discovered Cinema Rules through your reactions to horror short films, that same day I subscribed and watched a large amount of your videos. You guys are probably my favorite channel, not just because you reacted to many of my favorite movies, but because I genuinely love how you discuss everything you watch. Your genuine passion for films and the way you articulate your thoughts made every video enjoyable.
Even though I might miss the reactions, I'm super excited about what you plan to do with the channel. My favorite part has always been listening to you guys, so a podcast sounds like a fantastic way to learn more about your experiences with cinema. It's clear that you put a lot of effort and heart into your content, and it really resonates with your audience. I'll definitely be sticking around for a long time!🩵💙
Btw, hi from Peru🇵🇪
Yours was one of the channels that got me hooked on reaction videos during the depths of COVID. I'll definitely miss your film reactions, but I'm happy that you can now cast off the yoke of doing reactions and once again have the liberty to go to the cinema, see any film you want, when you want, and not have to worry about "saving it" for a reaction video, etc.!
Every human content creator falls into that hole, but not many are honest and smart enough to course correct like you guys!
I think how you mix up the topics and format is going to be the make-or-break of this next phase of the channel. Looking forward to see what you guys can do with it!
Im pretty sure we all watch because of your personalities. Any film talk is just a bonus. Thank you guys!
I completely support your change in direction, you gotta do what makes you happy!! Watching your channel during lockdown brought me so much joy since I couldn’t get out to the theater or get together with friends to see movies, either. Looking forward to your podcast! Congrats on everything so far 🫶👏
Im actually glad you guys are switching to podcast format. I drive a lot for work so now I'll have this to keep me busy!
You guys should do what you want and enjoy! People are fickle and love to comment, complain and tell you what they want you to do. Don't know why so many feel entitled to do that but that's alot of social media now. I love watching movies with reactors bc it's more fun than watching by yourself and other perspectives can be so interesting. I'm definitely going to listen to the podcast too, I listen to them everyday. Congrats on the new podcast, new homes and new baby!!
This was such a refreshing watch from you two! Always loved your content and excited for the podcast! ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Been following you chaps since post pandemic... you're similar in age to my two sons with a similar sense of lad banter.
One of my fave reactions from you is Come and See! Keep doing what you do 👏👏
You guys are the only movie reactions I watch and I am going to miss that aspect of the channel, but as many have pointed out it's YOU that people really come here for. As a fellow creator I can relate to not wanting movies to lose their magic for you and having to take a step back in order for it to still be fun for you. As you've said you have full time jobs and started this for fun. I am looking forward to seeing you two reinvigorated and excited again. Best of luck in the new direction.
Hi from The States. This is a very exciting thing you guys are doing and it will likely be so much better for you both overall. If reacting has been sapping the pleasure out of watching movies in general, then doing it less frequently seems the smart decision. Focusing on conversation about TV and films could well be the perfect thing.
Your fans will stick with you in this new venture. Sometimes we need to shake things up a bit or make a change. I'm an older guy, age 58, and have learned a few things. One idea I have heard a few times from wise people has always been "Once you stop changing, you're done". Basically, life should never remain stagnant because then one stops growing. This change to a different format sounds like it will be really good. And Sunday was the best choice for sharing the podcast/show with listeners, no question.
I look forward to the refreshed goals for the channel . Excited by whats ahead .
I’m so so sorry about your break up. 😢
I've watched a LOT of your reactions... and I absolutely thought the best section of them, was your discussion. And sometimes, I'd skip the film to watch your discussion, so I FULLY support you changing up your approach.
It doesn’t matter how much you love something… when you have to do it as a job it becomes a chore. You’re then stuck doing it because you HAVE TO not because you want to. It’s a shame because I’ve been a loyal watcher since NMOES. I always rewatch your horror reactions every Halloween season. It’s like watching an abridged version of a good movie with a couple of friends.
Congratulations ghents and good luck with your decision to change up the format of your channel. I'm looking forward to watching & listening.
I totally get it, I'm a musician and when music becomes too much of a job, it turns me off of the fun of it. I always wonder about reactors getting burned out. I think the podcast idea is great! You can watch a movie on your own, then discuss! We already know you guys so well, it's almost as if I KNOW what your reactions are going to be, so might as well just skip to the review discussion part! You guys always have interesting discussions. PS: Thanks for helping us get through the pandemic! During the darkest times, you guys were always a light. All your reaction channels were like that. We couldn't hang with our friends and watch movies. Also the world is going crazy, and these channels - your channel - has always been a refuge, shelters from the storm, confirmation that people were still human!
“These guys talk over the movie blah blah.” My friends, I will PAUSE A MOVIE to get my thoughts across. Being a reactor must be so tough, not just reacting but editing to the point of not getting claimed. I’ve always loved your talks at the end, keep thing comin!
I've watched you guys for years, and a huge part of that is because I just love watching you two talk and laugh and have a good time whilst discussing movies. I'm a 29 year old British guy, and I see so much of myself and my best mate in you two, from your sense of humour to the passion you clearly have for film. (We're also a pair of movie buffs, we studied Film Production together at uni, and we still love arranging movie marathons whenever we can). That, paired with the fact that you're actually genuine and don't exaggerate your reactions like literal performers, has made you consistently enjoyable to watch and listen to. So whatever direction you take the channel, you can count on me staying as a viewer. As usual, as long as I'm personally interested in the movies being discussed and you two remain yourselves, I'll always be here. Keep it up dudes, and keep the love for film alive!
I remember the Day when i was browsing through CZcams out of pure boredom, thinking "maaan, so many reaction channels etc." and then i saw the 2 guys sitting on the couch in the thumbnail. It even was Nightmare on Elm Street. From then on i was hooked, long time Fan now. Thx for the little update guys, and plz keep on doing what u do and more important, what you LIKE. Passion over Duty - Peace 🙂
Life is short, and you should
ABSOLUTELY do what makes you happy.
Your Intros, were always my favorite ❤
First of all, I want to thank you guys for the content you've created. I've binged and rewatched so many of your reactions that filled time and space that had to be filled.
Second, There have been movies that I've wanted to watch that I couldn't find, afford or didn't know about that I watched through you both. Hellraiser for example is a movie I heard a lot about, saw through your reactions and later decided to watch for myself. Even movies or shows, let's take Chernobyl for example, are great to watch reaction videos of. You know how people say "I wish I could erase X from my memory so I could experience it for the first time again?", that's what you both did for me.
Third, if you don't innovate you'll come to a standstill. Who knows how long reaction channels stay relevant for, maybe you're ahead of the curve before demonitization finally takes over.
And final, do what makes YOU happy. There is nothing more important in life than enjoying it. The change might have a negative impact at first, but if you enjoy what you're doing new ones will take over. Don't let it discourage you, making one persons day a bit more bearable should already be a accomplishment
Been watching since the og Scream reaction and I watch a few reaction channels but to put it frankly, I never loved your actual "reaction" to the movies you watch. What I really showed up for was the analysis. I love hearing you guys talk at the end in detail about what you watched, which is pretty rare for reaction channels. And honestly, you guys should've made a podcast from the beginning because it's too perfect. Best of luck to you guys, I'll be here every episode 👍🏽🎉
Whatever makes you happy and passionate! I’m still gonna be a subscriber! Best of luck for you both!
I respect you guys for being honest and for following your interest in this way. I've done creative things myself involving filming videos/interviews/writing etc. and at first it can be fun to turn a hobby into something larger, but it can feel like work and quickly become a chore or something you end up dreading. For what it's worth, I have kind of falling off of watching film reaction videos this past year myself, so if anything, there is only an upside for you moving to a podcast approach, as I already kind of tuned out! So perhaps relaunching with a new focus may end up meaning I come back to watch/listen again! Hope you're both well.
Awesome perspective! we hope you come back and tune in, we have our first episode out on Buzzsprout right now and will be available on apple/spotify tomorrow (audio only for now), video will come later :)
I've been a big fan of your channel since its early days. Two of my favorite handsome men watching a lot of films. I wish you all the best in whatever comes next for you both!
A format that I think would bridge the gap between movie reactions and podcasts that would potentially help retain the audience would be something akin to a book club. Maybe every week or every other week you could come up with a theme of three movies, and then at the end of the week do a podcast discussing those films. That would really refocus the discussion around the part you like the best, the post-movie discussion, and give you time to digest the films, while also retaining the aspect of the show that is focused around specific films. To me, it seems like the risk is not that you're moving away from reaction channels, but because you're moving away from episodes being built around specific movies. Not that you shouldn't also have an introductory segment chatting about current movies and games, but it seems like transitioning to that might be the bigger leap in terms of altering what you make.
The thing that I became a fan of you two over was the connection. One, between you two (you both seem like genuine mates) and two, the connection I felt to you guys. I've laughed until I've nearly passed out with you two.
It doesn't really matter whether you're watching a movie (or show) or whether you're sat at a table with one another, I think what is important to me, is that you're doing the thing (whatever 'the thing' may be) that you enjoy. Be it a podcast, reaction, a discussion/breakdown like "How To Hollywood" it doesn't really matter to me, so long as you two are having a good time. I'll be there.
I’ve always found you both to be so magnetic, interesting, and smart when discussing films- I’ll follow you guys anywhere, no matter what!
Thanks, Shaun! Thanks, Tom! 🎬 Your instincts are good. Reviews are preferable to reactions for me. Never sacrifice the cinematic experience for a video. If you're not enjoy making the videos, they're not worth making. I'm onboard for *whatever* y'all decide.
Anything you guys put out will be great regardless lol. Just glad you guys are doing alright and still keeping up with your channel
With you all the way boys. Well done on the bravery to actually pull the rug out and go in a different direction. I’d love to see a reaction of a classic you’ve not seen long out of the cinema once in a while but I’m happy to carry on this journey with you and everyone else
Your one of my favourite reaction channels and I appreciate that there's more that goes into doing reaction than just reacting, there's editing of course and you've got to feel like your enjoying the hobby with juggling it with work.
We loved it for a long while, but it became stale and got in the way of us actually enjoying Film. We can now go back to watching films at the Cinema and come here to talk about them with you all
@@CinemaRules I'm down for the changes you want to make, I love movies as well and I don't think I could constantly do reactions for people because you feel like you constantly got to talk about what's going on and sometimes you just want sit back and relax with a movie.
I’ll definitely be sticking around for your new direction.
Thank you guys for sharing this with us. I've been listening to more horror movie podcasts lately and I appreciate the deep discussions and the research that some podcasters put into each movie discussion. That's something that can rarely happen in a first time view reaction. Having more time to hear you guys' interpretations and analysis of movies is going to be great.
Thanks for the update your both awesome 💙 i haven't commented for a while but I'm still subscribed. Looking forward to seeing new things on this channel 👍
I’ve always been subscribed because of you guys, your banter and film discussion afterwards.
Just finished the first podcast, and I can tell that the spirit that made the OG reactions so great is back! Love the “My film is better” game!
Excited for what’s to come! Thanks for your honesty!
Glad to hear that you're doing well in your personal lives as well
I'll be here! I listen to podcasts all day at work, so I'll probably be more engaged this way. Thanks for being forward about everything!
Think the podcast is a natural progression and I’ll happily subscribe to your podcast! I hope you’ll announce the “next” movie before the podcast comes out so we have a chance to pre-watch.
Congratulations on regaining your passion for film.
Hey guys! Have enjoyed watching your reactions over the last few years. Appreciate your honesty and understand how u feel. Good luck and look forward to seeing your future videos! 👍
It makes perfect sense! Sounds alot like Raiders of the lost podcast which is a good thing, going through letterboxed reviews etc
Sounds great cant wait for the podcasts!
Loved your guys honesty! ❤
(also totally agree the first omen was awesome)
Fair play! I can't imagine having to react as I watch a film for the first time and I could never do it myself. I enjoyed your reactions because they felt genuine, and there's hundreds of reactor channels that don't, including some of the biggest ones. I'll gladly listen to a new film podcast. Best of luck.
Kinda going through something similar wrt art and illustration, so I defo get where you guys are coming from. It's hard to keep pressing ahead when the joy and passion dries up. It kinda feels like a thankless chore after a time. I hope y'all can rediscover the joy you once had for cinema, because if one thing came through in your commentary for me, it was that. If there's no more joy in doing a thing, then why do it? Y'know?
A bit of change is good in such circumstances, and I think the podcast format is a great idea. It's a good fit for you guys. I watch y'all because because I dig the vibe you two bring to the table, not because of the format of the content. Genuinely anticipate seeing what y'all come up with moving forward. Wishing you good luck, and hope you have a great rest of the day
100% will continue to follow and support. Congrats, guys. Reaching out to touch you in any way you'd like.
Whatever you guys do, I’ll be watching. Reaction videos are good, but there are too many copyright issues, and I am glad you guys are changing it up.
you're evolving - nothing wrong with that... well done
I'm looking forward to the new style of content. You guys offer way more than just reactions, it's why I like you guys so much.
Thank you so much!!
@CinemaRules never need to thank me, something I've learnt from life is never pigeonhole yourself as one thing, learn new things, take a risk. If it makes you happy that's all that matters.
Looking forward to this new era! Love your work and keep it up!
You've got to do what works for you. Gotta be authentic. I just finished a podcast series we started in 2021 and even with an 18 month break when I burnt out, it feels a relief to finish.
Obviously, making something that you're gonna do anyway into a project (paid or unpaid) makes it into work and can easily change fun into obligation. You're right to pivot, and I honestly I think your plan is more interesting anyway. Good luck!
You guys quickly became my favourite channel on CZcams and was the only channel I ever joined on patreon (I had to cancel it recently due to a bad break up and having to start life from scratch so had to save the pennies) but I plan on joining again soon! I love the reactions but I understand if it’s becoming more of a chore than fun then this switch up is good for you guys to stop you both burning out, Il still be here watching the podcast and at least this way whenever you decide to chuck a react in here and there you guys will hopefully enjoy filming it more and it will a nice little treat for us😂💙
Good for you guys for following the direction you want to take. I've been following your channel for a few years, but tbh I'm following fewer and fewer reaction channels these days. I think I'm down to you guys, Rob Squad, Asia & BJ, and the Beesleys on and off. Adding something that will bring joy back into what you do is only a good thing.
Always enjoy your post reaction discussions so this sounds like a good direction for you to go in.
I’ve been watching your channel for many years and I look forward to the future.
I've been needing a new podcast to listen to and then this starts, perfect timing 😄 I'm keen to listen to what you guys put out next. I always like talking about movies as well. You guys just stay true to yourselves and as long as you are enjoying what you are doing then thats the main thing
Starting watching b/c i enjoyed your reactions. I subscribed b/c i genuinely enjoy your insight and vibes. Will definitely keep watching as you guys switch to the podcast format and continue to grow.
Good luck guys. I’ve always enjoyed your vids. I’m also glad to hear that you want to finish the Friday the 13th series. Those are my favs. Please keep doing those!
you guys have watched a LOT of movies. a break or a change of things is never a bad thing.
i found you guys with your month of scary films watching all the classics like 3/4 years ago. one of the reasons you guys were my favorite is your engagement with the audience and how down to earth yall are. Like watching my friends talk about movies. i genuinely feel like we could just hop on halo this weekend lol. Stick to what you love but dont get burned out is all i say as ive been there many times.
I won’t lie when I saw you uploaded I was very selfish and thought please don’t tell me your quitting as like a lot of people I enjoy your videos. But this is fantastic. I’m probably the one of the few who doesn’t have Netflix or Disney plus and soley what CZcams and a lot of good CZcamsrs and hood videos are slowly dribbling. There’s a podcast called cherry picker which talks about horror so I can’t wait to hear you boys talk about more of the classic. I’m still hoping you do more zombie films as if I remember rightly Tom has mentioned he likes zombie films and I’m obsessed with them 😂 can’t wait to listen to the podcast I’m excited for a fresh and fun approach to your channel x
New mission statement lads. TALKING about every movie ever made. I'm here for it. Reaction channels in essence have been done to death. I personally want to see more commentary than reaction, I feel you get more out of the conversation. I feel people will still enjoy this cause it has a "hanging out with your friends" kind of vibe. It's a great atmosphere and I wish you guys so much luck and success moving forward.
I've enjoyed your reactions, but I just want you guys to be happy with what you are doing. Passion for what you do is what attracts an audience. So I'll check out the podcast. I wish you guys the best of luck in this new endeavor.
Your Band of Brothers reactions are what made me subscribe all those years ago.
Love you guys! will continue to support even with any new changes!
Oh nice! Would be cool to hear a talk on various film genres , themes, directors spotlight, etc.
If you're also going to delve into games I'm curious to know your thoughts on cinematic games like Until Dawn or Detroit Become Human regarding quality of storytelling and how the development of these kinds of games might affect cinema and/or gaming in general.
Anyways, it was cool to see a new video and I am definitely looking forward to more.
I already listen to a ton of film (horror only lol) podcasts so i can’t wait to add y’all to the rotation for my work outs or getting ready in the morning. As someone who studied film and has a concentration in it from my degrees, I love the discussions after a film because they are made for discussion!
Also thank you for mentioning The First Omen because it was stunning! Loved the Possession (81) homage in it! Horror Queers also said not enough people are talking about it
Y'all's Channel, Asia and BJ, TBR Schmitt, and Rob Squad Reactions are My Favorite Movie/TV reactors
Add to that Dawn Marie, Habibi Brothers, Movies with Mary, Carrington and BissFlix.

Glad to see another TBR fan!
my favourite channel that watches movies. you guys are great.
You all need to do what you need to do to be happy but you did draw us in under one premise and are switching it to a whole different promise of content; I'll stick around to see the extent of the change but I enjoyed the movie reactions. You were one of the first channels I subscribed to and brought me to the conclusion that I wanted to also do a reaction channel. Me and my channel partner, who have since parted ways, shifted to "Few Words Reviews" because we got tired of being flagged for content by CZcams. So, I get it, I do. Wish we had gotten as successful as you guys did.
I'll gladly listen to you both talk about movies in whatever way you find exciting and enjoyable. I love your reaction videos as seeing your initial raw response is fun, however if that format ruins the enjoyment for you then absolutely moving into a more discussion focused format is the right move, and I look forward to it.
PS. You've got yourselves a typo in the description of podcast episode 1 on buzzsprout. Looking forward to listening!
I think it would be interesting for you to have some of your friends and family come on and talk about what they thought when you guys told them you were going to start the channel, what it was like for them to watch in the early stages when you started videos and then what they thought once they realized like holy s** this is a big deal. I’ve never seen that on a podcast before.
I’m 100% up for doing that
Just listened to your first podcast and I think it’s definitely the way to go. Love your reaction videos but it’s just nice to hear two guys talking about movies and what makes them great.
Best wishes for the future.
So ready for this new era of Cinema Rules! 🎬🔥
Love you guys 🤘🏻
Follow your passion, boys!
Out of all the reactors I have watched, you guys are the only ones I hoped wouldn’t come to this very obvious positive decision - 😥but I guess that’s why I luv ya both! 💖 You have outgrown it & a podcast is the absolute right way to go.
Still have my support! ❤
Thank you, it is bitter sweet and like we said, we may return for one or two reactions around halloween, but moving forward we feel excitement about the podcast, thank you for your support :)
I’m looking forward to your new content as podcasts 👏 I’m also glad that you’re keeping your old content up because truth be told I go back and rewatch some of your reactions sometimes because you two together are so much fun to watch 😊
