Omg I haven't even watched the video yet, and I already love it. I buy 96% of my books from secondhand stores, especially on 50% off days, so this is totally my my vibe! Last week I snagged the entire Illuminae Files trilogy in hardcover for $4.50. I squealed when I saw it and startled a guy who was browsing the non-fiction section 😂
I would love to go second hand book shopping. The charity stores in my town are terrible all the books are really really old yellow and are musty. Would be amazing to find new books
Yessss I’d love this to be a series!! I love going into charity shops and seeing all the books they have. I’ve definitely got some gems before. I’m from Leeds but York is one of my favourite places, as well as Edinburgh
Love this video! I buy the majority of my books from charity shops and have found some amazing bargains. If a book is mega hyped you always find it second hand a few months later. I’m a big fan of the hunt :)
This is always something I debate with myself. I go both ways I suppose...I'm always down for a bargain so shopping second hand does appeal to me BUT, I am also very happy to support the publishing industry and authors/bookstores that I love. Books are something that bring me a great deal of joy and if spending my hard earned money keeps that business going, I am ok to do so.
I love looking for second hand books, it really is like a treasure hunt. I live in Germany and we don't have a lot of second hand book shops but book exchange shelves and little free libraries have become really popular over the last couple of years and I have found some gems there before :)
I’ve just started the video but I’m loving it already because as someone in the UK who struggles with money, charity shops are the best for books. Personally my favourite is Ashgate Hospice as its 50p for paperback and £1 for hardback Not to mention I used to work in the donation centre and know the books there will be good quality that people will want to read
The entire video just consisted of me continuously writing down everything you showed and said for when I’m next in York lol. Since I never really buy books from charity shops, this was really helpful xx
Yes!!! Do this kind of video a series please! :) Last weekend I was in London and I went to a lot of charity shops as well. I found a lot of good deals!
I adore Robin Hobb so I'm incredibly pleased to see a book of hers in this video. :D As I work at a charity shop, I'm also glad that you created this video - we oftentimes get some popular books at the shop. If a book is popular and you're willing to wait, then you can often find it in a charity shop. I've had to buy second-hand books for a fair while now, so I tend to only buy new books if they're a bit niche.
So excited to get into Robin Hobb! I still only really buy books new if they're by my favourite authors or in a series I've already started. I'm still catching up with a lot of back list books which limits my ability to read new releases so I don't mind waiting for things to appear second hand. It's also so much more satisfying finding them too!
I haven’t been second hand book shopping in a charity shop for a while but this is mainly as I buy my books second handoff of Amazon, last year I got 13 books for £30 which included the packaging. I may have to look in the charity shops now, there are several near my house - I take lots of books to them and rarely think to look and see what they have.
I thought it was you!! I volunteer at that Oxfam bookshop and sold you the Robin Hobb book! I nearly said something but I wasn’t 100% sure. Anyway, I’m glad you enjoyed York and found some good (& cheaper 😂) books!
I'd love to see more of these in different cities! I think with used books you can either add to your collection for less/read and re-donate in an affordable way. It's the best of both!
I'm excited that you're going to be reading the Realm of the Elderlings series. I've read the first trilogy and the first book of the next one and I'm re-listening to the Royal Assassin at the moment. I really hope you'll like it :) And I agree, epic fantasy synopses are always so hard to understand and even then, they usually don't really give you an idea of the full scope of the story.
I'm trying not to buy books at any price until my TBR shelves are a lot smaller, but I do admit that occasionally a cheap book at a charity shop will trick me into buying it.
I think I will love the Realm of the Elderlings. A little nervous though as I have yet to read such high fantasy aside from Game of Thrones and with that I already had a grasp of the story. Completely agree that secondhand books are such a temptation! Can't resist those bargains :')
Your local charity shops have such amazing deals! I mostly shop at a local used book store which is a bit more on the pricey side for secondhand books. But I can trade in my un-hauled books for credit which takes half the total cost off when I check out. I went yesterday and bought 3 books for $12.
Suicide Club sounds really good! Pirates? What a good haul! I do a lot of second hand book shopping. If I do go into a Barnes and Nobel sometime I'll only buy one or two books new. But Amazon is also super cheap for books usually as well, so I feel like we have a lot of resources not to buy books at the "new" price.
I'm so envyous, you have beautiful thrift/charity shops, here in Italy I'm only able to find some classics, random adult romance books and many unknown mistery thrillers. And books from old comedians. That's it. And they almost never go under 50% discount... (at least in my area)
I love secondhand bookshopping! However, I live in the north-east of the Netherlands so the few charity (book) shops we have barely have any English books (I only read in English) and then when they do, they barely have fantasy. But I've found some gems, like The Cruel Prince, The Grace of Kings and The Song of Achilles! I'm in a need to take train trip (or boat trip) to York apparently :')
Oh that's sad! I'm always a little surprised at how little english books are available in Mainland Europe considering they don't have to be translated, just stocked. If you ever find yourself in York, I hope you have a blast!
I love this video concept! I go second hand book shopping all the time and probably at least half of the books I own are second hand. UK is amazing for charity shops, near where I live there is a charity store that sells exclusively books and it's great.
If you ever make your way down south to Brighton you will have to let me tell you all the best places to get books. Just make sure you bring a suitcase as there are loads of charity shops with masses of books.
I would LOVE to visit Brighton. Especially now I know they have good charity shops :p I think it may be a seaside town thing because Scarborough is great as well haha
Becca and The Books it is great but they are spaced out. There are about 3 pockets of shops. When we go on a charity shop crawl it takes all day. But boy is it fun 😍
I love looking for second hand books! I work for Scope and its incredible how many books we get in that haven't even been read at all. We don't usually get much ya fantasy but whenever we do I'm all about it. Recently I bought the all of the Game of Thrones books at a pound each and I cannot complain about that at all!
I definitely get most of mine second hand! I also just love the adventure of hunting for books and not knowing what you may find. My local library book sale is always so amazing for finding great books!
I miss charity shops. They're not really a thing in Switzerland. Basel does have a Red Cross shop but it's clothes only. I get a lot of books from free public bookcases - there are 4 in Basel. Usually they're full of older books but occasionally I will find a relatively new release.
There are a couple of little free libraries around here but I've yet to stop at one as I normally see them when I'm driving past. I'm actually surprised there aren't many charity shops in Switzerland as I believed that Europe was more forward-thinking in terms of the environment so I assumed sustainability would go hand in hand with that. I did visit a flea market in Rome that had a couple of book stalls but I couldn't say how popular the books they had were as they were mainly Italian haha
I'm from Sheffield and we have SO MANY charity shops and second hand bookshops that I'm completely spoilt for choice when looking for good cheap books 😊
I live in Barnsley and the charity shop near me sells all books (paperback and hardback) for 30p but once a month they do a penny sale on all books :) i recently got 10 books that I really wanted (one was released recently as well) all for 10p
ahh I loved this video so much! I'm so jealous at all the amazing second hand stores in the UK. THey always have so many well-known books! Would love to see more of these type of videos!
I love the idea of second-hand bookshops but unfortunately, in my country they are not so popular and even when I come across one the selection's not so great. But I'm actually planning on visiting York and/or Edinburgh next year and I'll be definitely checking some charity shops there so thanks for showing me around York :)
Oh no that's sad! I hope you have a great time in the UK though! I've been to Edinburgh myself and the charity shops are great there too so either way you're sure to find some bargains!
Oh! I absolutely love charity shops. I buy most of my books secondhand from charity shops :) Back in October I bought 11 books for less than £20 from charity shops
That is impressive! Tbh that is normally what my hauls look like. York is a little expensive because of the dedicated book shops but I'm excited to do this again Scarborough but I seem to always get a big haul from there
*happy gasp* Hello, 2020 Catch-Up Book Club! Also The Lies of Locke Lamora is actually my favorite book period. It isn't just a heist, it's a revenge story. It's to me what Nevernight is to you.
Fantasy costs more because it's popular. I don't care for it myself. I am waiting for the 9th book in the Outlander series. I will buy that the minute I see it at the, store. Price be damned!
I love shopping at thrift stores. Savers is my favorite but Good Will is great too🌻 I’m not sure how common they are in the UK but I also find a lot of great books at estate sales for about a dollar each.
I shop exclusively second hand, but NONE of my second hand stores have both the good price and the good selection. I need to book my flight right now...
In Canada we used to have "Remainder shops - shops that sell ONLY remainder books. I hope you know what a remainder book is? Remainder boks are the boks still left in the warehouse after the sales have died down. The publisher usually sells them at a loss but because they are often first edition books and still in good condition, they tend to sell for less than the full price, but not as cheap as the second hand or used books. When I was buying physical books, i usaed to buy them mostly as remaindered books. Now I only buy e-books online. I have not purchased a physical book for 7 years now!!!
Omygosh! Yaaayyy! You posted a video today! 🥳🥳🥳 You look so cute! Love this whooole look! It feels very 90s in the best way! 😍😍😍 You look like you could be in The Craft! :) Love your backpack...especially with this look! :) Omygosh! I just put Suicide Club on my audiobook list last night! 😊✨✨ I really enjoyed this video & would love to see more! 🤗💕📚 I pretty much have always either shopped for books secondhand, or at a discount bookstore. I also love shopping the clearance section at one of the bookstores near me because you can get so much stuff for cheap! And they are usually the books that are hyped! 😊✨✨ It’s pretty much like you said: the key is waiting until you can find it for cheaper. A lot of times, if I see something go into paperback...I go to that bookstore because I know I can get a clearance hardback for cheaper. It is like a treasure hunt too! 🤗🤗🤗 I get sooo excited when I find books that I’ve wanted to read for cheap. It’s very rare that I buy a book at full price. I just go to the library. Well, I look forward to seeing more of these videos from you!💕💕💕 This one was GREAT! I hope you’re having a HAPPY SATURDAY!!! 😊✨✨ I looovvveee you, my dear! ♥️💕♥️ Happy Reading! 🤓📚✨
More of this please. I love it! Also since you live in the area of Hull, Andy’s is a good charity shop and most of their book’s are 50p!! Always come away with books from there and it’s only round the corner from me too 🤷🏼♀️
I just got The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides from the thrift store for $1.50. I love finding same year releases, especially those that are so hyped!
I've been hoping for a video like this from you for awhile since you always mention hitting up charity shops for books at such low prices. I've been wanting to know where you go and how you found these places. Are they mostly selling books? I'm in NYC so hardback are $25-$30 full price. Unfortunately, it seems that we don't have many charity shops that sell books. Those that do are half prices at best. So, $12-$15 which is nice but still a lot. Also, those tend to be crowded and musty and don't really have recent books. Same goes for most other secondhand book places like thrift stores.
I live in America so thank you for the currency switch hehe. but here is a big idea why don't all bookstores/thrift stores have a BOOKTUBERS FAVES section in their store.
If there's some form of Robin Hobb readalong then I'M IN. I read the Farseer trilogy this year and I enjoyed it but was really hard to motivate myself because it is a bit slower paced.
I really don't understand people getting angry at other people for how they spend their own money. If you can afford it there shouldn't be an issue. There's no sense in shaming someone just because you don't have the funds to do what they do. Save up or shop around for a cheaper price. I always buy my books second hand or with a really good discount. You just need to know how to shop the deals.
That's a ton of books for that amount 😳 It would be around $26 CAD and I would be able to get 2 hardbacks...if they'll older titles 😳 at my local thrift store.
Okay great you compared it to € though it made me think: whaaat £2, that's €4!! Hahaha I mostly buy second-hand books for €1 per book :') Sometimes a bit more, sometimes even less
I really liked this concept and I would love to see this as a series.
Thank you! I'm so glad you liked it! Looking forward to more in the future

There's nothing like the thrill of a charity book hunt! So satisfying when you get a good haul!
This is always something I debate with myself. I go both ways I suppose...I'm always down for a bargain so shopping second hand does appeal to me BUT, I am also very happy to support the publishing industry and authors/bookstores that I love. I also love this idea, and you got such an amazing haul!

Yes make this video again and again and again. These are my fav kinds of video to watch 😍
Thank you for the feedback! So glad you liked it!
YES YES YES YES YES. ALL THE YESSES.
Rachael Marie's Book Journey yes yes yes yes yes yes
Yes!!! Do this kind of video a series please! :) Last weekend I was in London and I went to a lot of charity shops as well. I found a lot of good deals!
Ooooh I would love to peruse London Charity shops. I imagine they have a lot of stock. Will have to make it a priority if I'm ever down there again
@@BeccaandTheBooks they have plenty of books :) I try to go once a year, but it's not always possible as I am from Barcelona
Yesss I love this idea and a cover of the 1975 as background music 😩🤌

I popped into The British Heart Foundation today and picked up 4 books for £7.50 and only one looks like it’s been read before.
Robin Hobb is my favorite author. Fitz is actually in 3 trilogies. 😀
I also adore the Gentlemen Bastard novels. They so good.
I'm from Harrogate originally so this warmed my soul to see lovely Yorkshire! 🥰🥰
I thought it was you!! I volunteer at that Oxfam bookshop and sold you the Robin Hobb book! I nearly said something but I wasn’t 100% sure. Anyway, I’m glad you enjoyed York and found some good (& cheaper 😂) books!
Yes make more!!! I love thrifting second hand books, and I think it is underrated! Heck yeah for talking it up!
I will read Realm of Elderlings in 2020 too. I love the Farseer Trilogy, which was the first trilogy in the series. And I love Hobb's writing.
I'd love to see you do this with someone else together!
I'll see if I can rope somebody into it ;)
I love secomd hand book shopping.
It's so much fun!
I'd love to see more of these in different cities! I think with used books you can either add to your collection for less/read and re-donate in an affordable way. It's the best of both!

So glad you loved it! It's one of my favourite cities in the country :D
If there's some form of Robin Hobb readalong then I'M IN. I read the Farseer trilogy this year and I enjoyed it but was really hard to motivate myself because it is a bit slower paced.
Thank you for the walk around York a dream come true in a way. We don't have charity shops in Croatia, how does that work? Love you!

More please
I really don't understand people getting angry at other people for how they spend their own money. If you can afford it there shouldn't be an issue. There's no sense in shaming someone just because you don't have the funds to do what they do. Save up or shop around for a cheaper price. I always buy my books second hand or with a really good discount. You just need to know how to shop the deals.
Becca, I saw you have The Queen of the Tearling series on your shelf. What did you think of it? I am decided if I should pick up a copy for 2020.
Oooooo I would love to give this challenge a go 🤗🤗 my town is full of shops that sell secondhand shops. Bloody love this video 🤗🤗
Definitely make this £15 a secondhand shop series. This is brilliant 🤗🤗
I’m gobsmacked with the Jay Kristoff book 😧 wow
Ooooo I’m tempted to do this challenge and post it on my IG Booksnink which of course I will tag as Becca’s £15 secondhand charity shop challenge 🤗🤗
Your buys were absolutely phenomenal Becca....wow 😳🤗🤗🥳 you got some cracking stuff
I am so glad you are a charity shop bargain hunter. YES YES YES AGAIN TO A SERIES 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Great video!
I really liked this vdeo ;)
Great content.
i never buy my books at full price
