The 3rd one being more work than it was worth to catch because it acted like an ADHD kid on drugs that didn't want to pay attention at all. idk I have seen a couple of allays and they are the best mob of the vote since people who actually know how to use them are using them tons with things being possible that were never before possible. I think mojang wanted to give the old forgotten structures more of a use and I think the concept is cool of having to rescue a friendly mob from illigers but for the average player allays arent much of a use but you could argue redstone is the same so idk why people are complaining there are much more forgettable mobs that are so forgettable that you probably havent forgotten about them like the icebear and stray while allay was added in an update where they didnt even show it being added into the game.

    I like the mob votes. However, what I think could be done to improve this concept is if all the mobs are added, however, the one chosen by the community is implemented in the upcoming update and the other two are added, for example, 2 or 3 updates later. That way everyone wins. The mob that won the vote would be put in the game first, but the other two that also had fans would be implemented as well, just much later. I think it gives somewhat of a fairness to the voting system.

No one could've really guessed it was going to be hated so much which is weird because the phantom was initially said to "punish players who haven't slept in around 3 days" so we knew what we were getting into. I like the original design better myself and the current one feels too weird with its eyes. Other than that, yeah the phantom did what is was going to do from the start, its sad people just didn't think twice about how it would affect gameplay. When you think about it all four of those mobs could've been annoying. In a universe where the phantom lost it would've been "ocean mob annoying when I'm just trying to get somewhere and it attacks me" or "I was just in a desert and the new garbo mob just took away my good enchants" or whatever it's supposed to do, or lastly "Just trying to get through the nether when I got sniped by normal blazes and the king blaze even though I don't want to fight it right now". Would've been worse too if the king blaze summoned around blaze spawners too making it harder to disable them. Having shields too? yeah that mob seemed pretty buff I honestly didn't care for it.

    I think the main problem with these mob votes is that so many people will inevitably lose. For example:
    27% - choice 1
    22% - choice 2
    51% - choice 3
    In this scenario, choice 3 would win, but that mans 49% of voters didn't get what they were most excited about. That's a huge portion!
    In most organizations that I'm in, nearly all of our votes are unanimously approved. That's because we take the time to explore pros and cons, consider alternatives, and logically determine the best solution. By the time it comes to a vote, 90-100% of everyone already agrees. It's not a dispute, just a confirmation that we've done serious work to arrive at that decision.
    Like you said, Mojang knows Minecraft VERY well. They could brainstorm real needs within the game and hash out options and solutions, really engage the community in that process of problem solving. Then present their findings for a "yea" or "nay" style vote. I think this could be a lot of fun, and easily get the entire community to rally behind whatever was ultimately chosen.
    Finally, I hate to say this, but I think it's obvious that Mojang isn't as passionate about solving serious problems. How many years have people been asking for movable block entities? Ignored. Better inventory management? Ignored. Better pvp? Ignored (or abandoned after years of teasers). Some of the biggest minecrafters have made incredible cases for these things, and more, and have been completely ignored. I'd give up the allay, sniffer, and fox in a heartbeat if it meant we could get these other things fixed!

The other updates won't be scrapped, they'll just come in the order of the vote, so 1st place would be the first update to get added, then 2nd place and 3rd place would follow respectively. Minecraft has yearly updates that not only include plenty of more stuff on each - the mild one being an entire biome, with new mobs, items, and blocks - but they also seemingly fit into the game. It’s a rare occurrence to get something that actively makes the game worse, only case that comes to my head right now’d be the chat report and (to a lesser degree) phantom.
      With all due respect, many times when I see the critics to the devs it just feels like the community got spoiled. We’ve been getting a lot of great stuff over the years, and when comparing it to other game’s usual update dramas ours rarely seem like fair complaining on our side.

    The problem with the concept of a mob vote is player expectations vs the final product. Not that the final product is bad, I'd argue that each of these mobs that were voted in so far have just as many uses as the average minecraft mob. The problem is in player expectations and the possibility of having a mob that could have been better, whether that mob was ever experienced by the community or not someone will always say x mob was better even if for all we know the iceologer would be just as annoying as a phantom or the moobloom would have been just as "plain" to players as a glowsquid. They obviously learned from this from the last mob vote where they chose mobs marketing them with player functionality in mind so that the players aren't really voting for a mob but they are now voting for a game mechanic and so the vote steered from aesthetics to what's in it for the player. This makes the mechanic that has the most player benefit to win, i.e the Allay and most likely the Sniffer. Overall I believe Mojang is learning on what makes a good mob vote and how to implement it for player engagement.

    • @sircalvin
      @sircalvin Před rokem +16

      also the vast majority of players dont view the mobs with how the game actually is. i personally liked the moobloom because of the bee interaction, but looking back what would i have done with that? made a honey farm flying machine? the iceologer is still really cool to me, but not even because of the actual gameplay. im a mapmaker, so any new big weird feature (like him dropping chunks of ice) has the potential to introduce new commands or tricks or other engine features that would help. the glowing signs are honestly really good for normal gameplay and i use them all the time in multiplayer, but we werent even told about them until after. its like what jetstarfish said about the allay: its cool but nobody actually uses it or cares. but heres the big problem i noticed: mojang only adds boring mobs. like the copper golem pressed buttons, but when would you ever use that. the ally picks up items, but nobody uses them. the glare went to dark areas? (really not sure, the fact that i cant even remember is telling) just look at how light it is. none of the mob vote mobs are actually that good. this years were better, but still meh. sniffer is neat because its big and adds new plants which may or may not have some utility but will be nice for decoration

    I've actually been thinking about this topic for a while, and I have my own little bit of input to add.
    The mob votes have pretty much done nothing but create conflict in the community. As someone else pointed out, that's because even if a mob with 60% votes wins, which is considered the majority, that's still 40% of people who are left unhappy with whatever won.
    To me, there's one main issue with the mob vote: the mobs are too distinct from each other. They all have their own abilities, models, functions, and spawn conditions. While variety sounds good on paper, it ends up being an issue because the mod you want to vote for really ends up being dependent on what you as an individual do when you play. I don't build very often, so the Sniffer had no real appeal to me other than being kinda cute. However, as someone who enjoys mining and little minigames, the Rascal really stood out to me, so I voted that. Now because that didn't win, I am mildly upset.
    The biggest drawback to this is that if the mob you voted for loses, you feel like you lost or missed out on something. I feel like that's the main reason people get so defensive about what they're voting for; feeling like you lost or missed out on something sucks, especially if it's something you really wanted (see: moombloom supporters 2022).
    In my opinion, the best way to cut back on the conflict that comes with the mob vote is to either stop it completely, or at least limit the choice the community gets. I talked to my friends about this a couple weeks ago, and we came up with this scenario:
    Hypothetically, 2023 mob vote, Mojang decides they want to add some sort of spider. For the vote, the community gets the choice of a wither spider, fire spider, or ender spider. That way, the game gets a spider no matter what, and the only thing the community controls is the ability and spawn locations
    Or, alternatively, say they hypothetically want to add a new End mob (because let's face it, the End is really neglected). Before they announce anything, they plan out the abilities, spawn conditions and functions of the mob. Literally the only thing the community votes on is what the mob looks like. Either way, the community gets an End mob with the same abilities promised.

    • @SashaMasonVR
      @SashaMasonVR Před rokem +11

      It's not even 60% though. In the first mob vote, you had 4 different options. I don't remember the exact numbers, but even if the Phantom only had 40% for example and everything else 20%, the Phantom would win due to majority vote, but that also means that the in total 60% of the people that voted for the other options are left disappointed. Again just example numbers, I don't know the exact numbers, but because it spreads out across so many options, the "Majority" is usually less than 50% of the total votes. Even with 3 options, one option could literally have like 36% of the votes, second one 34% and third one 30%. The 36% would win because "That's what had the most votes", but it also means 64% of the people actually participating didn't get what they voted for. And then those that did may find themselves disappointed with how the mob is implemented. Just an overall awful idea.

    The glow squid isn't an inherently bad mob IMO. Sometimes it's okay for the game to have some elements like that mainly for aesthetics. The annoying part, however, is that they refused to implement any sort of dynamic lighting, leading to a glow squid that doesn't actually glow. I think the phantom is another case of decent mob / bad implementation. Having an airborne enemy and more purpose to survival elements like sleeping isn't a bad idea, but simply having them relentlessly hound you for not sleeping is an awful way to implement them. If they just spawned and could be avoided like regular enemies, then I really don't think they would get so much hate.

    • @TheiBunny
      @TheiBunny Před rokem +28

      i actually like that you can't just avoid the phantom like all other mobs, and no amount of spawn proofing on the ground will prevent them from spawning when you go outside if you haven't slept. They have a unique attack pattern and move pretty fast so they actually present a challenge, but they're also totally optional; if you don't wanna deal with them - just remember to sleep - or if you can't, but still don't wanna deal with them, you can also disable the gamerule that lets them spawn.
      Before mending was added as a villager trade, they were crucial for repairing your elytra, and was honestly a pretty fair trade imo - prove you can take on a handful of flying enemies yourself and you may continue to use your elytra.
      My biggest issue with them is simply that in multiplayer, someone else can spawn phantoms and even if you've slept recently, they'll still come for you, but also since easy access to mending makes their drops kinda useless, they don't really have any interesting interactions anymore... so I think it'd be neat if when they hit you, they inflicted the "insomnia" effect for a minute or 2, or until your phantoms died or despawned, preventing you from just taking cover and sleeping the dangers of night away. It'd be nice if their drop could be used for more things too - potentially an insomnia potion, or levitation by means of corrupting slow falling with a fermented spider eye?

      @TheiBunny Před rokem +10

      @@ivanlagayacrus1891 by the time you start working on large-scale projects, you should realistically be equipped to deal with a few mobs :p
      Anyway, if its large enough to warrant spending several hours on it, you should have bed with you to skip the night (and the regular monsters it brings) and to set your spawn nearby anyway.
      If it's something smaller and you've spawnproofed the area you'll be working in, you can sleep before getting started then not skip the next 3 nights to get around an hour of guaranteed phantom-free work time.
      You can also bring cats! They're quite useless for scaring away Creepers (unless you're making a gunpowder farm), but work really well for keeping phantoms at bay.
      at the end of the day sleeping only takes a few seconds of your time, and you're rewarded by the surface being rid of (almost) all threats - not just the phantom. You'll likely also be sleeping to skip the rain/storms too.
      phantoms are just the punishment for not sleeping in a "survival" game, much like how not eating causes you to starve, not coming up to the surface to breathe while underwater causes you to drown, and taking too much damage without recovering health is fatal - and if we're being honest, they're a pretty mild punishment at that.
      personally I find pillager patrols much more annoying because they're totally random, unlike the phantom they can't be prevented from spawning, they'll kill my villagers, and I have to be careful about how I pick them off so I don't accidently give myself bad omen and start a raid - forcing me to go get some lava or materials to build a golem to take care of them for me, and if the captain manages to kill itself on my thorns armour and I'm not at my base, I need to then go out of my way to find a cow for milk to clear the effect because if I forget I'll probably just head straight home and start a raid. it's infuriating... 😭

    You know what's funny with this year's mob vote? If the next update turns out to be Archaeology, then any of the mobs that lost are MISSED OPPORTUNITY as all of them fit the update. Sniffer relating to finding ancient stuff to be revived; Rascal to help you mine; and Tuff Golem displays all your archaeological finds.
    EDIT:
    A lot of the comments didn't bother checking when I commented this. Here's my take after the stream. It is not an Archaeology update, yet it hasn't been named.
    However, there is an emphasis on self-expression with what the update is gonna bring. With this in mind, 2 of the mobs fit this update. Sniffer to express yourself through gardening and Tuff Golem to express yourself through displays. I don't know how the Rascal would've fit in this.

    I think every once in a while, they should hold Mob Votes of previous choices that didn't get picked. Could be all, or even could be the mobs that came in second.

      There was one person (I forgot their name) who suggested that they end up re-using the previous two mobs who lost, while only adding one new mob. This would enable it so the mobs who lost will eventually be chosen. I think the only issue is that many people would get all whiny because they would only be introducing one new mob, but other than those people, the idea sounds perfectly sound.

      @@lucydale3214 Good idea but eventually, they'd have to include those removed mobs, because the entire point of the change is to eventually add all the mob choices. Removing the lowest rated mob would sort of contradict the original idea. Maybe they could do a losers bracket kind of thing where they make votes for the mobs who lost.

  • @I_KnowWhatYouAre
    @I_KnowWhatYouAre Před rokem +20

    In my opinion the votes should be used as a method of prioritization. Add all the stuff but do it in order of most votes to least. This way more content would be rolled out in smaller packages, but the community still gets to participate.

  • @itsanoformethanks6277
    @itsanoformethanks6277 Před rokem +165

    It's my theory that the recent vote was purposefully rigged. The Sniffer had way more content. It added to many different aspects of the game. It won by over half of the total votes. I also saw more ads/content for it, but that could've been a coincidence. Compared to how equal the previous mob votes were, it felt like they made one mob better than the others on purpose so there was less complaints about the others losing. Last year was very divided, and people were incredibly upset because they had lost, not because they disliked who won. The same thing happened when the glowsquid won. It just seems possible for them to make a golemn who was worse than the previous year so that if it didn't win, their was less devision. They also, by now, should know that the strange creatures won't win based on weird new mechanics.

    The issue with every single mob vote that causes the issues we see today comes down to something simple: Implementation. Phantoms have a lot of potential, but in practice all they do is force you to sleep since Mending is easy to get now. Glow Squids literally only added Glowing Text to signs, instead of even just a new aesthetic light source or being able to make Spectral Arrows. The Allay is extremely rare and most normal players won't understand them well enough to make use of them. While I absolutely agree that Mojang needs to just quit doing Votes and actually just add things to the game. The only exception I would support is "What should we focus on first?" votes, basically showing a bunch of early development ideas and the community gets to vote on what Mojang puts resources into first.

    • @umbrvalken
      @umbrvalken Před 10 měsíci +1

      Glow squids should've been implemented with some form of colored lighting. It would've made them extremely unique and you could illuminate a base with an aquarium of them which means they'd actually have an aesthetic use beyond what they are now.
