Please please please don't let this be the last time we see Mojo! Next to Juggernaut, he's my fav Xmen villain, and he's so great in this series! He's done TV and gaming now, maybe streaming is next? I'd subscribe to Mojo+, thats for sure.

remember it, is a famous line from gambit in the 90s show. "the names gambit. remember it!" so my guess is "remember it" is a gambit focused episode. he has been sitting in the cut the whole season. time for him to shine!

My favorite Easter Egg in the Mojo episode is that when he arrives in the video game for the final battle, he actually comes out of the classic X-Men arcade cabinet, complete with the six-person player panel. I remember the Chuck E. Cheese near my old house used to have one of those cabinets and thinking it was cool that you could have up to six people playing at once (since most home consoles at the time could only have 2 to 4 people before online console gaming took off).
Yes, that was an epic easter egg. Brought back a ton of old memories!
I didn’t finish the original X-Men animated series but I binged the first three seasons during covid. The insanely high quality of ‘97 is making me want to go back and finish it this summer. I need the complete story.

Also I know the voice actors for wolverine & rogue are the same as the original series but it’s their voices that bug me the most & sound the most different. 😢 Rogue’s is sooo hard to hear sometimes.
Yeah, I agree...I think Wolverine and Rogue's voices come through great sometimes but other times they aren't as crisp. Hopefully they will get better as they go along. Beast and Storm are perfect!
How could they make an episode about the Motendo without Super Mojo Bros. That's my favorite game ever.

Other than seeing action figures, this was my first exposure to Mojo. Not at all what I was expecting. He’s a real dingaling.
Yeah, he's a total dingbat...which ig is a good thing, because otherwise he'd be really hard to beat. But he typically causes his own failure each time.

I've seen a lot of people say they saw the 2 episode thing was a bit jarring, personally though I didn't find it jarring, rather I saw it as sort of we had an epic high energy awesomely insane story so now we need something to help slow down and come off the high, so to speak. I think it would have been jarring for me had it been reversed with Lifedeath first then Motendo. Also, I think it was also intentional, since the Mojo story was all about nostalgia and looking back and everything they did something a bit clever and made the Mojo story about 20 minutes long, the length of the episodes from X-Men: the Animated Series, and now they are doing 30ish minute episodes for '97, so they filled the remaining 10 minutes with Lifedeath to set it up, but also because the other episodes are probably for the most part one-and-done stories.
I didn't think of Titanic or City of Angels with the Storm scene you brought up. I haven't seen City of Angels, so I wouldn't have made that connection anyways, and I've only seen Titanic a few times cause my Mom had the VHS when I was growing up, so we'd put it on every so often.
I absolutely loved both stories, I love the slowness and emotionality of the Lifedeath story, and I love all the 90's and meta references from then in the Motendo story. I have seen some say that they wished Magneto had said his "Hello X-Men, welcome to die" phrase from the X-Men Arcade Game in the Motendo episode, I think that would have been awesome, but at the same time confusing and goofy for modern audiences who probably wouldn't get the reference.
Along with the likely set up for Cassandra Nova, I feel like Mojo may also be a bit of set up, mainly cause I have a theory that Deadpool may be working for a Mojo-ised version of the TVA, explaining why it looks different than what we've seen of it in Loki and such since Mojo would probably know the jist of it but wouldn't necessarily get all the details exactly right. Deadpool is the type of movie where you could do that sort of thing and have a character like Mojo show up and have it work beautifully.
Speaking of set up, I wonder if there might be some kind of set up for future Seasons. I say this because they're bringing in characters like the Goblin Queen and the Adversary, and in recent comics the Adversary and the Goblin Force (what I would assume to be the Goblin Queen counterpart to the Phoenix Force) and other such entities like that have been revealed to be "aspects" for lack of a better term of Shadow King.
Also, to help with the timeline, I think the first episode of X-Men: the Animated Series lists Jubilee's age in the profile the Sentinels have on her.

I think that even if she's the silver surfer in the movie, that's probably aligned with the rumour that the movie is set in an alternative universe, and when they get transported to MCU 616 they'll find that Silver Surfer is a different person (Norrin Radd)
Great question about Shalla-Bal. I agree, it's not a gender swap of Norrin himself, but just a different person who becomes the Surfer. So I don't have an issue with it. ofc, the only concern is if it turns off a large amount of the fan base, then perhaps it will end up being a bad idea. But I don't have any issue with the decision, per se. Very excited for the Fantastic Four movie!
I really liked these episodes and can't wait to see what's happens next. Earlier today i randomly thought about the Dark Phoenix storyline and how Datk Phoenix had lots of potential for big cosmic stuff but didn't do anything with it, so I'm hoping when the MCU eventually do the Phoenix storyline we get lots of comic accurate and cosmic stuff in it with their own twist to things of course. For example we could get introduce to the Shir'ar empire, Gladiator, Starjammers and possibly teses for Scott's and Alex's other brother.
Hey did you see that new Human Torch poster? It's looks so good, I believe that poster art was made by a famous marvel artist can't remember his name though and that city looks very retro I believe is the right word so I think that fuel the idea that this movie takes place in another universe.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to the MCU's take on the Dark Phoenix saga. And it took me abit, but I finally did a vid on that Human Torch poster. I agree, it really gives weight to the idea that it's in a different universe!
I do think it's meaningful that Roberto is in the Jubilee opening shot since he's effectively the Jubilee of X-Men 97. As for the Sinister bit ... I think that's just the Morph action segment and maybe that Sinister is the overarching bad. Also I think the Jean ponytail is the iconic detail they went with because in the original opening that's exactly how she's depicted. Now her hair in season 5 it could be they're trying to tell us. Another excuse for that is let's say it's Madelyne throughout all season 5 episodes maybe she had the ponytail at first because that's what Jean would do and didn't like it and shifted to having her hair down for the remainder. Sounds overly complicated but who knows what the cloning process does to you. Timeline video you say? I'm intrigued. I loved Jubilee doing a Magneto impression. JOOF, ima let you cook on this Genosha theory since I know nothing of the comics and it sounds fun.
Also I suggested Sinister make Cassandra a body but what if when she is separated from Charles she just has a body. Weird mutant stuff. Also I missed that Longshot doll and the Storm removal from the intro. How did I miss Magik in the character select ... Marvel give me Magik now! Will say it's nice seeing the OG Magneto in the new animation style that isn't the intro. Also didn't know the older Jubilee had a name that's interesting. I didn't think of either of those things during the Storm segment ... that says my outlook. Oh my goodness, I never caught that Gottfield cameo ... nice catch. Never heard of Bastion but sounds fun. And yes, we know Forge builds Bishop's time device ... but you do ask an interesting question. Either way, very much looking forward to the rest of the season.

they are called holograms bruv lol. forge's house in the comics were outfitted with holographic projectors, making it look see through/glass like. and the adversary: that creepy owl was there the whole time. go back to them setting up dinner and look into the rafters. its up there staring at storm.

Yeah, my guess is that Jean and Madelyne have a preferred default style that they stick with most of the time, but that they switch it around as needed for the occasion. So Madelyne wearing it in a ponytail in the first episode makes sense due to the basketball game. But just my theory on that.

Yeah, this series really makes me want to go back and read some of those classic stories from the 80's and 90's. X-men in particular had some fantastic issues around that time.

sinister's lab was attacked in the phalanx two parter. he could have made maddie look exactly like jean aka with the pony, and then SHE was taken. but based on how that story went, (the xmansion being attacked) that could not be the case. i dont recall jean being on screen til part 2 and the mansion was attacked in part one. the only episode that really counts in season 5 is the finale cause that is the only one where she has a major role instead of just a cameo. so somewhere between episode 2 and 10 of season 5 was the swap, based on the pony, as episode 2 is and 10 are the only times jean is seen in the costume in that season.

Really cool episode, I loved that they found a way to bring back jubilees original voice actress, that was so cool. And hot take incoming: I'm glad they made storm interesting for once.
Now don't get me wrong I don't dislike storm, but she is always so underutilized and is just kinda there in basically every single X-men story I can think of. Shes always just there, while things are happening to rogue, jean, Scott, Logan etc. she hardly ever has any character development, almost no stories are focused on her. I mean between every X-men show and movie that I've ever seen this is the first story that shes actually a main part of, and its great! it just sucks that she is almost never given a focus.
I mean as a comparison, I know they are a main character now, but morph in the original series is in the show for what maybe 5-7 episodes max? meanwhile storm is there for probably close to the whole thing, or at least a way bigger chunk and I feel like morph had way more development.
Also as someone who works in IT, I really appreciate the shoutout lol, you're totally right, if you throw out tech support everything goes haywire fast.

I believe the swap happened in Beyond Good & Evil. The Phalanx Covenant should actually be somewhere between Sancutary and BG&E. So the first time we really see Maddy is Graduation Day with her hair down.
Yeah, I think the switch happened during BG&E as well. So are you thinking D+ has the episodes in the wrong order? That would solve the problem, if so.
@@AbitofEverything4U D+ has the release order, which is the wrong order. According to "The Adventures of the X-Men" issues #11 and #12, which actually provided the intended viewing order, Phalanx takes place between after sanctuary and BG&E. You can read more about it on this thread (from 2002!) (I tried commenting this with the link, but it kept getting blocked. Anyone know how to comment URLs on CZcams?) I might be able to find the direct scans from the comic somewhere online, but from what I remember, it actually gives a pretty comprehensive breakdown of the X-Men TAS timeline. This is also the order that the DVDs follow, at least I think, I only own vol. 1 and 3 and haven't checked them out in a while.
@@AbitofEverything4U long story but basically the way these episodes were produced back then some of them were finished out of order or have continuity issues. The Disney+ order is pretty good, but the Phalanx Covenant I believe should be before the events of BG&E.

Because that would put the pony tail jean in the Phalanx storyline before BG&E and would mean the swap happened during BG&E, which is when I think it likely happened as the rest of the "Jean" appearances have her hair down. Niiiice!

Ah, cool...I was thinking that was the case. I watched the original series waaaaaay back when it came out and then I rewatched it again once it landed on D+ around 2 years ago. But I couldn't recall if it was present day Forge or future Forge that built it. I'm assuming it's future Forge?

zero tolerance is the name of bastion's storyarc. that is what i think the 3 part finale will adopt. zero tolerance = tolerance is extinction so they must have ZERO TOLERANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! throw in that bastion easter egg and the fact that in episodes 1 and 2 we saw humans putting sentinel parts on their body and saying things like "you think we wouldnt find a way to evolve too"......ITS COMING!

I agree, way too jarring on the pacing, I think it was a bad idea to put these two together. Maybe it'll make sense later why they did that, but I didn't like them doing it. That said, I did also enjoy both "parts", even though I am constantly disgusted by Mojo, because that sprite work was phenomenal. That goes right next to "Two Player" of Cloak and Dagger as some of my favorite episodes of any show ever.
Yeah, overall it was a good episode, but I sure had to adjust after watching the insanity of Mojo and then suddenly the character driven story with Storm and Forge.

I think you can follow the story without having watched the original series. They do a great job of filling you in on any facts that you need to know, imo. Loving the series so far!

@@AbitofEverything4U i feel like this will be better than tales of the Jedi. I love the whole thrawn stuff in rebels and Ahsoka (I grew up with rebels as my clone wars) and thrawn was great and Ahsoka was amazing!!!)
And then the inquisitors being the other part with barriss offee from the clone wars is great too. I love the inquisitors because rebels and kenobi and the rise of the red blade book from last year rocked! I was intrigued that in the trailer we see marrok and the one who Ahsoka killed in tales of the Jedi. And imagine how awkward it’ll be between barriss and Vader considering their history lol (Ahsoka leaving etc)

Honestly this was a really weak episode for me.
The Motendo stuff was just filler for the show. The Crunch.. the Wolverine story this is adapted from was so much better.
I think fillers are fine for longer seasons, they can serve as a breath of fresh air, but in an already rushed feeling season like this, it was just really a waste of time. They should have just skipped this and made the entire episode Lifedeath Pt 1. I know they are doing a pt 2 in a few weeks, but they could have fleshed out the Forge/Storm relationship. Damn did that feel rushed and came out of no where.
I love the show, but the pacing is easily the worst part of it. They are cramming too many things in short 30min stories. Episode 3 could have been 3 episodes, lifedeath another 3. Then another 3 for how ever they are going to end it.
Yeah, I do agree that the pacing is probably the biggest concern I have as well. That said, ig I'd prefer a faster pacing over a slow and drawn out pacing. But somewhere in the middle seems like the sweet spot. Like, they need an extra 5-10 minutes for the episodes and they would be perfect. But on second viewing of the episodes, I do appreciate the faster pace, tbh. So this may increase rewatchability in the end.

Yeah, LifeDeath part 1 was too short, imo. But I guess it did it's job by getting us invested in the story and wanting to see it resolved in a later episode.
I was just pissed off by this episode and this almost made me drop the series with how the stories were organized and prioritized. What kind of asshole dedicates 20 minutes of an episode that is complete filler while dedicating the last 9 minutes to a part 1 story where the majority of the audience WANTS to watch?

I did not need 20 minutes of Jubilee, Sunspot, and freakin' Mojo doin' 90's arcade bs that doesn't matter in the grand scheme of X-Men! In fact, Jubilee's shenanigans could have been kept as a complete filler ep while dedicated a separate FULL episode to Storm, Forge, and the freakin' Adversary for a proper part 1 episode. I'm surprised this even got greenlighted due to the entire series is under an extreme microscope by the entire Marvel fandom ready to tear it apart and drop this series like its hot but I'll chalk it up to Disney just having to be Disney. The episode would have been better if these stories got separate full episodes with one designed to be filler and to have the series breathe while the other being back into the trenches. Not every story works in a short format and this just didn't work at all!
I'm trying very freakin' hard to give this show a chance as the comics section is a black hole in abysmal writing, woke propaganda and character assassinations that I had to jump ship years ago because Marvel refuses to lay off the entire X-office that completely destroyed the X-Men brand. The MCU is already as much as a black hole as the comics are and I would have thought that they would have been more careful with this cartoon as they claimed that this show is their last hope and on this episode, they had tripped but caught themselves but they cannot afford anymore stupid editorial mistakes like this. I refuse to give Disney any breathing room as they've already done too many screw ups and blows to the Marvel brand to afford the luxury. If Disney wants me giving money to Marvel at this point, they need for me to believe that this show is anything other than a ticking time bomb waiting for the excuse to go to oblivion right at the season finale and for the 90's nostalgia train to crash into a TNT factory.
Yeah, I can totally understand your feelings on the episode. I thought it was a strange choice as well. I did enjoy the Jubilee portion of the episode, but I felt it was wrong to short change Storm like that. However, it did make me really wanting to see what happens next, so I'll give them that. And, ofc, episode 5 ended up being a total banger, so that's good at least. So far I'd say the series is delivering and I really hope they stick the landing with the final episodes.

@AbitofEverything4U true he is redeemed though my mileage on that has kind of changed a little because of a former friend of mine who I felt cut Ezra Miller way too much slack I'm pretty sure I told you the story and this fool tried to say there was a conspiracy against him in a lot of other stupid things and he tried to say that everyone can be redeemed maybe I'm a little biased because of my girlfriend's psycho ex-husband but I feel like there needs to be parameters around that sentiment and part of it might come from working as a door host at Walmart and seeing how scummy people will be not everything is bad but you do see the scum of the earth too no there's plenty of people that make my job awesome and fun also

Eeehhh that whole thing about the jubilee actress not wanting to play her because she's not Asian is just virtue dividing bs. Of any version of media, race and even gender didn't matter in most situations... it's voice acting. Bart Simpson is played by a woman so are many male children.. shredder in many, many tmnt cartoons are played by black men. No one complains about Japanese representation. Because it's a cartoon and the voice fits perfectly. Kratos from God of war are voiced by black men. Great!!! No issue... But people nitpick and choose when they want to get mad about it. But I mean that a million percent, voice acting is the place where the actor doesn't have to look just like the character. Movie, Asian girl... Hire her right now. Magneto in a cartoon. Get a Mexican dude. He doesn't need to be a Jewish guy old enough to be in the Holocaust for his voice to fit the character... But movies and voice acting are different mediums. Like hire based on race when the character is visible... When the it's just sound then hire based on talent. Idk that's just me...
Don't disagree with your commentary, but I did think it was interesting in this case that it was the voice actress herself that bowed out. So while I think it would have been fine for her to play Jubilee in the new series, I respect her decision if she felt it was the right thing to do. And I'm really glad they found a way to bring her back in this episode. That was alot of fun!

Right...she may very well have felt pressured and we'll never know. I'd be bummed if that was the case, tbh. But glad she did get to come back in that episode.
