    Great video learned a lot. And found out im using wrong hooks.ive been using circle hooks with the eye offset away from barb. Now iv e seen them i think with eye towards the barb. Does that make a difference while using a loop knot. Is it best to use the hook with the eye not off set for live bait with short shank j hooks and circle hooks. Because i need to replace all my hooks before i go fishing again

    Tony, great video. Just to clarify at the end of the video you mention size 2 (NOT 2/0) for live bait inshore. Did you mean a 2/0? Just curious as I have always fished 1/0 circle offset for live bait. I didn’t realize the offset circle was more harmful to fish, I will get inline circle going forward.

    What about the Shrimp Walker hook? Doesn't kill the shrimp.

  • @stefanieburlingame5944

    curious because I can't really find an answer online...do you have to use circle hooks inshore and offshore when using live bait? I'm in agreement that a J Hook is needed around structure, but am being told I can't use them if I'm using shrimp.

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  Před 6 lety

      There are some local laws about using circle hooks in certain regions (ex. in Boca Grande, FL), but the use of J hooks are not illegal across the board if that's what you're asking.
      However, circle hooks seem to work better with shrimp so I recommend using them based on performance in addition to the conservation benefit they provide.

      Thank you. I'm in the Tampa Bay area and was under the impression that I HAD to use circle hooks ANY time I used live bait.

  • @chrisr3204

    Responsible fishermen use inline circle hooks. Best fish survival rate, no need killing something you’re not going to eat, or to big or small to keep.
