    Interesting that he switched tools between routes 1 and 2. More than likely due to subtleties of the craft which elude the rest of us.

      +Ed Woosters Simply the second route is steeper and harder so he switched for more technical tools

      I think its becuase he ruined the picks on the crux at the chokstone :P

      @@SturmpapstXII also think so. This crux at the end of the first route was super fuckin' scary making it without rope. Exposed and uncertain. This fistjam...

    Mind wanders , no probs . It's when the ice wanders that you have problems.

      Steve is a master of alpine climbing. He is "appreciating" his body's skills way more than most of us do.

    looking pretty sketchy going left through the top chock stone.......maybe too sketchy ...looked like you were definitely out on a limb to me.....too many climbs like that, you propably aren't going to make your old age Steve

    • @adammiller9179
      @adammiller9179 Před rokem

      He's already made his old age. He is a master of his craft.

    • @drewcunningham2
      @drewcunningham2 Před rokem

      @@adammiller9179 Perhaps that is why he looks a little sketchy in that one section? Also, Steve House is not really that old, he is younger than me and let's not forget that this video was made more than a decade ago and my comment was made more than six years ago - you are a little late to the party Adam. I realize he is a seasoned climber but age affects all climbers at some point, despite their past accomplishments ... I am also not as fluid and precise as I was forty years ago, and I accept that. The body breaks down over time. Many seasoned climbers, like myself, suffer from tremendous arthritic pain, etc. I spend a lot of time stretching and training just so I can still get out there and lead 5.8 multi-pitched alpine routes and climb WI4 ice - no disrespect meant - I wish I was half the climber Steve House was but I still question his decision to free solo this particular mixed route. No one is immune to death - John Bachar died at 52 free soloing a route he knew inside out - shit happens.
