What a great job in restoration. Bob and Justin are smiling. Awesome 👍
This was great; I feel born again just by watching this! Take care and enjoy that car.
I have a 71, and you did exactly what I want to do. Same process, same paint color, same interior color, same roof rack, everything.
I spent a lot of time on CZcams learning how to do many steps, my goal was to embed clips of key things learned / tops and tricks that also tried to make the video interesting. Although it is a somewhat simple car, it does require you to learn lots of auto skills AND patience!!! If I never see a soldering iron again...
Damn, you weren't kidding when you said restoration. You did a great job.
John, thanks a bunch for nice note, turns out this was only the beginning, "Timothy is working on the bug" has become a typical response from my wife when someone is asking where am I! But everyone loves the bug and it's a blast to drive, well worth the effort. You got a bug or getting one?
Another one saved ...THANKS for doing it. Technically very well done, congratulations.
Great restoration!!! That family would be super proud of that.
Qq
Looks amazing 👏 😍. As a child my mother had a 1976 super beetle, hers was also yellow and when she had it restored painted it blue also. I loved that car and it started my wanting of VW beetles. They're great cars and I think everyone should at least have the opportunity to drive one sometime in their life
I was never a beetle owner or driver until inheriting the 72 Super.
Like you it has grown on me, am pretty protective of it.
Now living in an apartment and its a pretty frequent that a resident has bug stories to share with me, there's lot's of goodness around these bugs and feeling more like the right thing to have saved it.
I used to have an old VW camper bus, it leaked oil like a sieve. I replaced the engine and tweaked it with aftermarket header and exhaust system. It would lift the front end off the ground on take off after all the mods were done. I had to sell it because my wife was afraid to drive it, I on the other hand loved it. To this day that was one of the worst decisions I believe I ever made. I always loved the original VW smell.... Good memories
And for some reason my car has that oil smell, well at least I know it still has oil in it!
sometimes i cry remembering my vw 72 it was a carplan where i work. i really miss you vw. thanks for this upload.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Finally! someone who said it right! Body off!... it's not frame off! Great rebuild/restore I did a '68 a couple of years ago!!
Awesome restoration. Save it and keep it in the family.
That's the plan!
Awesome restoration, of the 1972 Volkswagen Super Beetle, right down till the engine.
I had a 69 blue bug when I was 18 and I loved it! I had to get a daily driver and the new owner got in an accident with it and smushed it. I can't wait to get another blue bug like yours again to share with my son!
Jordan, recently I was looking a utube vid of a vw get together and was amazed how many are still out there and in really good and tricked out shape, although you might have to settle for a garage find, but if you do, good luck on the save, these little bugs get a lot of attention that I did not see coming.
Awwwww I love this I have a 1970 bug and I did restoration on it and its beautiful,,,,thank you so much for sharing we miss our bugs!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice work guys! Awesome build 👍
One of the best auto reno videos I've seen. You could have easily gone much longer, perhaps over two episodes. Loved it!
Funny you say that, I placed some pics and vids as a nod to a "how to" but also tried to make it interesting, there is a ton of work just in the wiring, but BORING!
Wow, i was taken back to high school with my blue 71 super beetle. The way you started with the commercial and ended it with it brought a tear to my eye. You guys did a great job at restoring it. I myself got to buy a 71 beetle again last year and im not letting go till the day i die. Thanks for sharing your experience on restoring it.
Vic, kind of cheated stealing that VW commercial, it was a yellow bug too and the goodbyes at the end matched the situation, VW has not sent me a cease and desist order yet! Enjoy your beetle, am going to post a video here soon on the electric trunk latch I used to replace the glove box puller than to date I cannot get to work that you might like to install on your bug. Thanks for the kind note and take care.
FYI this one wasn't called the super beetle it has the same dash as the 68 to 73 model
@@awsomeassistantthebest1825 Its a super beetle according to VIN
This is awesome! My favorite part was seeing the VW go for a spin at the halfway mark with the doors and trunk off! Thank you for sharing and well done video! Rob
Thanks for watching Rob.
The super trained eye will notice the engine bouncing at the stop sign, forgot to add the Bowden tube, NEVER forget it or you will rattle your teeth out.
Excelente trabalho. Parabéns!!!
Fantastic restoration! Very good job!
Recife, Brazil!!
braulio gonçalves an how will bring me one like this as a gift it’s my dream car
What a wonderful job!! May you enjoy it for many years to come! 😊
Excellent work! Congratulations. I love the Beetle.
Back in 1970, I learn how to drive in a similar model.
Thank you
All the best
Glad you liked it Mario! Turns out the engine case has been a bit too stressed over the last 300k miles, so we replaced it with a new one and added a well balanced fly wheel, 125 rockers, filter and V1 zinc oil, purring like a kitten and driving that air conditioner with no issues.
Wow, you did an amazing job with this car. Beautiful!
Thank you very much! It's a bunch of fun to drive it and get honks and waves, but knowing I saved some family history gives me the biggest joy.
Fascinating!!! I can only dream of that ever happening to my 70 bug. Right now, I'm just glad that I can still drive it to work and back home.
The way these bugs are if you are waiting for it to break down to give it the overhaul, it may never happen.
Frankly, I congratulate you on this creativity and the Beetle car deserves all this work ... it did tremendous work ... Greetings from Riyadh.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful!!! I love it, I'm working on my own beetle and it's a car that brings people together
Tonali, good luck with your restore. So true about bringing people together, I have noticed it also triggers something in bug lovers, I was leaving our parking garage yesterday and two young ladies yelled "I Love You Car", little kids stare. Thought it would strike a chord with older crowd, no so. Gotten in the habit of giving people a little horn toot, glad I got the horn working!
Parabéns pela restauração, ficou perfeita.
Got to be one of the only 1302's/super beetle's that's ever been bare metalled and hasn't been completely rotten!! Good job
So so very true, without welder I was at the mercy of what was underneath, I have another video of a method to repair the welded fender nuts that tear out without welding, fenders not blown off yet!!
The result can only be described as excellent .... sure brings back memories - I had 4 bugs ...
More then great looks, it’s the memories attached with it and I felt them!!
Thank you Zubair, I think the rest of our family was surprised I would even do this, then thought I was crazy along the journey, and now happy the Bug rides again. You never know how the story will unfold!
Timothy H hey buds I’m sure it must have been a challenge to start from a scratch till final product and I must say u have done a great job!! I’ve been trying to start my own project but don’t find the time...
Awesome job, love the outcome 😍👍
Beautiful I did the same thing on my late Big Brother 914 Porsche Keeping in the family is worth more then anything
Complimenti per il vostro restauro ✌️🎉
Wow , great job , specially the color combination blue out side and off white inside my best combination .
It took us a while to decide, ask lots of friends, it helped us
Dang! You did an amazing job on that bug!!
Thanks Gorilla Man!
Great video, you did a wonderful job on the bug and editing..... loved it
Thank you 🤗
What a great job. Love it
You made it look easy! I better get to work on my "68"! Was my first car at 16.... still have it, never restored it. I'm a year older than the car. Thank you for the video!!
Mr G, if I could do it all over again, would do a bunch of things different. For those here that have done restores before, they got a lot of knowledge just cannot get any other way than from jumping in. I hope you do it and find some items in the video that point you in the right directions. When we drive it here in Fort Lauderdale, it gets waves, stares, smiles and conversations at red lights, who knew? Adding larger cylinders, 125 rockers, oil filter, and air conditioning is paying off!
She came out beautiful great work!!
Thank you Saint James Amos, we have been driving the Bug around town and getting some waves and honks, been a fun journey.
Very nice amateur restoration guys!😎😘🤗😊
Yes, thank you
Truly wonderful. Both on restoration and built with love for the family.
Thank you my friend, the family is happy for the save, and seems bug lovers where we live are too, its a rare day we go driving that someone does not stop us to tell about their bug stories, did not see that coming.
That came out beautiful..awesomeness cant wait to start mine.
Ruben, ensure you hook into the samba website, besides youtube it was a great place for help.
Very cool! Anyone in this video from Kaua’i , Hawaii? There was a KQNG radio bumper sticker in the window!! Awesome video!!
My brother spent a month there writing checks for Iniki when he owned the bug, there is a post here from a guy that was a DJ at the same time my brother was there, small world.
Beautifully job done
Not enough for me to just 'like' this video, thanks for posting man it's a beautiful, joyful thing 👍
Thanks Gerard, the family really appreciates saving a memory from our lost owners, but as we drive it up and down the A1A in Fort Lauderdale, a lot of people come up to the car to tell me there bug stories, always smiles and fun chats. The real surprise, kids love it, they always get a toot toot of the horn.
One word. Magnificent !!
Macchina meravigliosa,un lavoro perfetto!
Nice work! Great blue paint!
Thank you very much!
Ficou lindo , parabéns pelo trabalho 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😍
Muito obrigado!!!
It turned out beautifully !! 😍

many congratulations for your restoration project, it was excellent, thanks for sharing greetings from MTY NL México
Thank you very much!
Awesome !!!!!!!! VW guy here.
Lots of VW knowledge there. Very nice!
CZcams and the Samba, really lucky to have such a supportive community, am working on giving back, one video on repairing the welded fender nuts, another coming on retrofitting an electric trunk release
Congratulations on restoring your family member to their former beauty. It gorgeous 😍
Thank you for the kind note, where we live the modern Volkswagen owners tend to park on either side of the beetle, I think it is to partner up, but I wonder if they are trying to protect it, even if not, we like the idea of it.
I second that. You did great job. That's a lot of work.
You dd a Great job of that! the car looks Beautiful, I have a 1974 FORD CORTINA Mk.3. owned it 44 years, now being restored to Brand New on my channel, due to extensive rust after standing outside for 12 years in the damp mountain air. over 40 panels got replaced, 36 layers of anti rust treatment, and 8 years of waiting and the car is now off to paint shop, so I hope she looks as lovely as your car when she comes back, love the blue on yours and the shine, and a lovely video to watch. always great to see a fellow classic car owner restoring their car..
HOLY MOLY BATMAN, thats some rust, dude, that stuff just makes me want to give up, I applaud your skill and dedication, wish you lived across the street, you got skills to mess with that much. Best wishes on enjoying your hard work!
@@CapnTimbo Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, and for your very kind comments, I think I surprised a lot of people by saying I intended to save a car that bad rust wise, after they saw the First video (The Start of the project) before the strip down, and a few more when the shell was once again Brand New, and rust & filler free, having been lead loaded on panel joins as per factory, (not too bad a job for my first attempt at doing that,)
excellent job....it feel to foot of the heart...nice work with nice editing like a fairy tail
Thank you very much!
nice tribute.. well done
Thank you very much!
Great restauration project. Very entertaining video. Great fun to do with family for family. And a very nice end product: a Volkswagen Beetle, the most produced car in the world! Greetings from the Netherlands.
Bert, thanks for the nice note, here is a thing I did not see coming, my wife has fallen in love with it and wants to keep it, and that is from a woman who needs a Lexus! The beetle has a long life ahead with us and we are having fun with something else we did not see coming; when we drive people honk and wave and start conversations in parking lots, we now are VW ambassadors!
@@CapnTimbo Hello Timothy. A beetle is a universal car. It connects people. What's not to like about a beetle? 😀👍
Having unlimited amounts of cash sure helps a full restoration, nice job.Well done.
Not sure I would do it again, but it was a family thing and something they will enjoy, and better not wreck it but I know that day will come, the next dollar is on them! Thanks for the compliment, very much appreciated.
Nice work....loved it...!
This is the most beloved car in the world !!!
It definitely is in our family!
Meus parabéns projeto fantastico !!!
good job!, and finally someone that said it right, it's a body off restoration, not a frame off
Thank you for the nice comment Bob, Bob was my older brother and original owner, Bob's are good in our book!
What a great video! I can't wait to start another one.
Same thought crossed my mind, am sure I could take 4 months off the schedule and save $1,000 in mistakes.
Great video!!!!!!! Great work!!!!
Thank you, but why oh why am I still working on it every weekend? Because everything I did not get around to in the rebuild, like the bearings, are reminding me they are almost 50 years old, I would do things a bit different next time...
Congrats man! great job!
Thank you Roberto:-)
Muito lindo! Amei!😍❤️❤️❤️
Great work , the Käfer deserves it !
Perfect. Love the yellow spot lights as well
And they look great with the blue background at dusk, just seems to work.
beautifulll congratulation - work like a German; Greetings from Germany
Danke! I learned a lot about the beetle (Europe) / bug (US) from historic videos, this was a journey well beyond turning wrenches for sure!
Perfeito muito bom essa restauração
brilliant. Well done
Les quedó muy bonito execelente trabajo maestros👏👍
Muchas gracias.
First off , job well done! Second ..... my jaw dropped when I saw the KQNG sticker .... I assisted there part time during the A.K. Blades time slot in 93-94 after working my regular job in hanalei hi
Oh yea and I am a Vw nut!
Thanks for the nice note.
You and my brother barely missed each other!
We left some items from the original car for sentimental reasons. The KONG sticker comes from when my older brother owned the car and his job was an independent insurance adjuster. He spent 5 weeks on Kauai handling claims for Iniki in 92. He was treated extremely well while there. Being a west coast family Hawaii has given us wonderful lifelong memories and I wanted to keep his/that memory on the car.
BTW, my wife and I really got a kick out of your note, gave us some good laughs and love that the Bug is associated to good people and memories.
Timothy H when I was there to rebuild after hurricane Iniki I was just about to buy a 68 black convertible bug for $800 , but my dad talked me out of it .... my mistake
@@65mustangguy Are you aware of this? czcams.com/video/-p7xFbjpzzM/video.html Looks way fun but also I had no idea this sort of thing happens, now that am a bug person am seeing another world!
Timothy H yes I used to attend Vw shows since I was little
Excellent job grade vw bug
Saludos desde Asunción Paraguay.
Herzlichen Glückwunsch zu diesem großartigen Projekt! Super gemacht, super dokumentiert! Auch Spaß gehabt dabei! => Gute Fahrt!!!
Very nice bild car i loved it nice colar bleu to ;) i was 15 wen i drove it im now 58 ;) greetings from the Netherlands and stay save Chiel

Hi Timothy you are welcome and yes i did man ;) i love the older cars and bike's to ;) if recently sold my car i had him for 25 years a Opel Record from 1967 and my harley from 1989 pfff if lost my job ;( i wish you a nice day or night and stay save greetings from the Netherlands Chiel
I love it, they even made me cry.😥😭Thanks for reliving it 👏👏👏👏👏
We did not just save a car, we are saving a lot of memories, did not see it coming but have family beating down my door to buy it, I guess for years they just forgot it existed and now want to get back in touch with the fond memories. Life never stops surprising us, thanks for kind note, means a lot to us.
Very well done!!
Nice and very good work .
Thank you! Cheers!
Excelente restauración
great , looks good , nice job
Glad you like it
So inspirational. ❤
What a great job and now the car looks so cute.
If you kept your video, only 8, 9 minutes,
but made more videos,
we would have the opportunity to learn more.
More to come! 2 more: 1 on the electric latch I made for the trunk, and I added a three gauge panel that required cutting dash metal while the car is still together, soon!
ESO SI ES AMOR A UN BOCHITO! PERFECTO.
Very good gob !!!
Well done what a great job 👍
Thanks Michael, was more effort than i expected but sure gets a lot of attention when it takes me for a ride
Nice restoration.
Thanks!
You the best , my dad was driving this car almost 25 years ago but unfortunately he sold it and I couldn’t find the new owner to do the same
That's too bad you cannot find your family bug, I did not know it would mean more to me to do this for a car that took us so many places and created great memories with family, it was worth it, especially to the rest of our family. My nieces grew up with that car and want it.
Timothy H ,Until now, I have not lost hope in searching for my dear father's car, and that one day I will send you a picture of the car to make myself and my family happy
One day i will
Fantastic...... Amazingly restored bug.....I think it's much perfect than original.
Glad you like it!
Saludos desde Brasil 😎👌, tu auto vw estas full man, very 🙂, wonderful 👌⚠️
Lindo vídeo! linda história! !!
Excellent job!!
