  • Watch as I catch my new personal best Rainbow Trout (Oncorhychus my kiss) on the Trout Magnet. Throughout the whole morning I had been switching back and forth between jigs and micro crank baits trying to figure out what I can use to get the fish to bite. Fishing had been super slow until I stumbled across a hole with a Golden Rainbow Trout. I took multiple casts at it, but it wanted nothing to do with the trout magnet. On the very next cast I felt a thump, I set the hook, head the drag peel and the rest was history...

Nice vid, really appreciate how you include the native fish along with that monster PB best Bow. Dope setup, can’t go wrong with an Ugly Stick.

Thanks! Greatly appreciate the kind words. I think it’s important to include the native fish, after all it is the trout we pay to get stocked that are invasive. Trout are fun to fish for of course, but many anglers don’t realize how they could affect native fish. Although most stockies don’t live long enough to make a difference.

Nice video. I guess this is D. town area. Last year I caught my largest rainbow at the covered bridge Kimberton farm school. It went from my finger tip to my armpit. I did not have a tape measure with me. I let it go as well for another day. I like how you release your catches most of the time.

Thanks!! I’ve only caught one Trout that was that large and that was an old stocked brown trout a few years back.

Hey look into how you should handle Rainbows, they're delicate and can get sick if you rub their slime off

I completely agree and this video isn’t a prime example of it as both these catches caught me off guard, but as you’ll see more clearly in other videos on my channel I always make sure to wet my hands before handling any trout to keep their slime coat in tact for that very reason.

Great work ! Does the Creek support trout year round?

Thank you! I don’t believe this stream consistently supports trout year round, but from this stream I have caught trout as late as July. So if we have consistent enough rainfall to cool down water temps I think there would be a few survivors.

How would u rig it in the current? I tried using just the trout magnet and the jighead that came with it, but no bites so far 😢

It would depend how deep the water is in the current. If water is relatively shallow I still use the trout magnet jig head with no additional weight. I balance my drift by casting further upstream from where I want the Trout magnet to end up (the bite zone). If water is a lot deeper and the fish stay deep I may put a small split shot 6-8inches above the trout magnet and then jig as normal. But I would try and target breaks in the current mostly. Any large rocks or wooded structure that break up the current. Fish will wait in those areas for food to pass by.
