    I love to fly fish, but there are days when I just want to go fishing and keep it simple. I pretty much exclusively use trout magnets when spin fishing for trout. They are also great for prospecting a new stream. Here's a tip: you can tie wet flies and nymphs on the jig heads.

    Awesome video! I have been using their panfish magnets on a Shakespeare micro ultralight with a 500 reel and 4# test. The bluegill in the creek closest to me are finicky lol. About the only things I have found that they like besides live red worms are the panfish magnets and Berkeley Gulp earthworms.
    I have pulled bluegill, redbreast, warmouth, rock bass and even a couple of small largemouth on those magnets. I have pretty much all budget level equipment on my ultralight and bass rod set ups, and am now looking to start upgrading my equipment. I have been really been enjoying ultralight and am looking to upgrade my ultralight setup first before my bass setups. I think I’m going to drop down to 2# test when I do.

    Picked up a little pack at wal mart for about $1.50 :) Came with two of the jig heads and like 7 of the jigs that come with them. I went with gold jig heads and chartreuse jig combo but they had different options. Haven't used em yet but I'm most likely gonna try them to pan fish til they stock the local lake with more trout. :) God bless you all and happy fishing!!!

    When using a float, are you leaving enough line to allow the magnet to skip bottom, or should it be more in middle of the water column?

    • @mainetroutwhisperer
      @mainetroutwhisperer  Před 2 lety +1

      You have to kind of find the sweet spot. If it’s too much line you you’ll get snagged all the time. The good thing about those floats is they are easily adjusted. I like to keep mine near bottom

    What sort of knot are you using to direct tie to the trout magnet? I’ve heard certain knots keep it from doing its “natural movement”

    • @mainetroutwhisperer
      @mainetroutwhisperer  Před rokem

      Clinch knot usually but you can use the loop or streamer loop knot so it moves more freely

  • @cerebraltackle
    @cerebraltackle Před rokem

    Fluorocarbon (in my opinion) is far superior due to its lack of visibility. However, it is hard to mend due to the fact it absorbs water. Using a hybrid line such as a Fluorocarbon coated mono...any perceived benefits are imagined. I do take extra steps to keep my line managed on a spinning reel. I recently did a video on spooling a spinning reel with Fluorocarbon. I cinch it down several times through the spooling process. I also use Blakemore Reel Magic. To me, using Fluorocarbon on a spinning reel might take a little extra care, but it's well worth it.

    • @jackramos7123
      @jackramos7123 Před rokem

      Flourocarbon isn't actually invisible. Watch some mono vs flouro comparisons on youtube, it's a bit of a scam.

    • @cerebraltackle
      @cerebraltackle Před rokem

      @@jackramos7123 Not at all. It would be hard to be more wrong. Those comparisons you're talking about - 1) aren't scientific and 2) are rigged. I've seen them. Do you know what they're actually using? They're using Fluorocarbon coated mono...do you know what this does? This actually creates a fiber optic effect under the water, making it more viable. Don't believe "tests" that have something to gain by the "result".

    • @GLOCKCOPG23
      @GLOCKCOPG23 Před 4 měsíci

      @@jackramos7123You are right. Flouro is only slightly more abrasion resistant than mono, not invisible, and wants to balloon off the spool (even with proper spooling technique) way more than mono. Flouro is a pain in the ass on ultralight spinning reels. Mono only for me.

    • @mainetroutwhisperer
      @mainetroutwhisperer  Před rokem +1

      Once the water warms up more and fish are more active I’ll use spoons, spinners, crankbaits with a spin rod. I generally don’t fish for them in the summer as the water temps get to high.

    • @davidarwood6264
      @davidarwood6264 Před 10 měsíci

      Red trout magnets work better in the fall. North or Southern US.

  • @oldtireman4665
    @oldtireman4665 Před rokem

    What’s wrong with using the trout magnet floats? I use them for everything including the Berkeley Trout Worms. Lighter so a more delicate presentation on smaller streams. If there’s room, I like a longer rod. Been using a 9’ Fenwick steelhead rod for some years now rated for 2-6 lb line. A Shimano CI4+ 1000 series with 4 lb P-Clear line and a flurocarbon leader. It’s a deadly rig in Western Pennsylvania.

    • @mainetroutwhisperer

      Nothing at all. I like the weighted floats to help with casting. Especially in ponds.

    • @oldtireman4665
      @oldtireman4665 Před rokem +1

      @@mainetroutwhisperer Do they come in smaller sizes? I don’t think I need anything quite that large. Where’s the best source? Looks like you mostly drift downstream. How about casting upstream, then let it drift to you and then let it go downstream? Some pools I can get 100’ although it can get tedious if water flow is down as it is now around here. I will sometimes tip the jig with a wax worm especially in lakes. Looks like Maine puts in some damn nice brookies! Count your blessings. I get mostly rainbows and some browns from PA Fish & Boat. Private clubs put some brooks in but nothing close to that!

    • @mainetroutwhisperer
      @mainetroutwhisperer  Před rokem

      @@oldtireman4665 yes they make smaller ones. I used the 1” here because that’s what I use the most. It can handle a smaller jig with some split shot.

      no it doesn't really do anything, the trout magnets action is what provokes the bite, trout are predatory fish
      i use 4lb test with nothing but the trout magnet then I jig my pole up and down, you know your doing it right when your line makes a nice even wave
      at that point im just looking for the line to go straight to set the hook because as soon as you feel the hit its to late sometimes and they spit the hook
