  • When Quinn and I were driving in the car one day, Johnny Cash came on the radio singing The Wreck of The Ol' 97. One of my favorites. After listening to it and discussing the lyrics we thought it might be fun to make a film about it so here it is.
    We utilized Microsoft's Train Simulator for this project.
    We used our artistic license and changed the story a bit.
    The real event was truly a tragedy. Nine people lost their lives on September 27th 1903 at the Stillhouse Trestle including the engineer Joesph "Steve" Brody. Brody was pressured by the Southern Railway to bring the late mail train back on schedule. They were fined a dollar for every minute the mail was late. Unfortunately Brody pushed a bit too hard and ended up derailing. The Southern Railway placed blame for the wreck on engineer Broady, disavowing that he had been ordered to run as fast as possible to maintain the schedule.
    I told Quinn there are two morals to this story.
    #1- If you go too fast in anything, your going to get hurt.
    #2- If "The Man" pressures you too do anything your not comfortable with, just walk away from it.
    We would like to thank our friends for helping us with the sound track, Skip Howard, Gary Skillings, John Meehan, Sean Lake, Dave Lake and Leighton Paulsen,
    Now we can start our next epic. I want to do something with helicopters.
    Thanks for watching and reading this.

    This was twisted with Casey Jones to cause in that famous wreck the fireman jumped out but in ole 97 he stayed on and was found dead in it with HIS HAND ON THE THROTTLE!!!!

    This video is very well made and still holds up in 2023. The combination of live action, models, and the use of Msts works really well.

    i watched this back in 2015 when i was 8 and still love this video and only now have i got to comment! still i dont understand why the "brake lever" was actually the reverse lever and why when hes braking it shows the pilot wheels hitting the drivers....i sound confusing to most of you......

    The real driver lost the capability to brake, stuck a 50, careened off a bridge, and had his arm torn off his arm. He was still on the regulater and he died and nlamed for the wreck

    The music and sound effects were so loud, I had trouble making out the lyrics. This song sounded more like a heavy metal rock song than an old folk tune. Altogether, it was a big disappointment.
    Incidentally, in the description of this video, the word "your" was used when the word "you're" should have been used (for example: "your going to get hurt" instead of "you're going to get hurt"). Apparently, the guys who made this film know as much about proper spelling and grammar as they do about the facts concerning the real "wreck of the old 97" (example: showing the engineer surviving the accident when, in reality, he was killed).

      Believing in proper grammar and spelling as well as believing in getting the facts about actual events right doesn't make someone a "Nazi." Your response is very rude and obnoxious!

    • @ZNZDerby
      @ZNZDerby Před 4 lety

      Michael Palmieri You’re overreacting over a video. You should’ve known by the engineer being played as a child that it wouldn’t be based off of facts. You then go on to go after them for a spelling mistake. Though I do agree with the sound effect part, my issue with your comment was you were expecting more out of a video that was made for the fun of it.
