As always you nailed it! They kept so many good things from the book but completely botched the LW reveal. The carriage and subsequent romantic times should've come after with Colin's full knowledge. They did a huge disservice to both Colin/Pen by keeping this lingering secret. There's plenty of built in drama with Cressida without manufacturing it. Let me have my fluffy happy romance show. I don't want to constantly be held in a state of anxiety! I want to enjoy a good love story with these best friends. Is that truly too much to ask??

  • @crissyjayfae
    @crissyjayfae Před 2 měsíci +296

Agreed. I love drama, for sure, but I could have done without the whole Whistledown secret overshadowing Colin and Penelope’s love story. I wanted to see more of them showing how well of a match they are highlighting their friendship. That whole part of Penelope having a panic attack watching the clock made me feel sick right along with her. Poor Colin thought she was having second thoughts about him 😭🫣

The problem with Shondaland is that they don’t understand the romance genre. There are 2 rules, a central love story and and HEA. They miss on the central love story by having so many storylines. The romance should be at least 50% of the show.

I thought so too. It was sort of like, “Oh, you thought we were just gay fishing with Benedict…then watch this.” That being said, I believe (b/c I’ve seen the whole season and read the books) LGBTQ people will be represented well. I felt we could have seen Benedict having a throuple in two or three scenes where we’re like…oh, he figured out he’s Bi/Pan. That would have portrayed exactly what it did without sucking so much time from the main storyline. There’s a big twist at the end that likely won’t be kept secret for long. Also, the actress who plays Francesca have had some serious acting chops that shine brightly in the last two episodes (especially with Violet and the nuance and assumptions we -and she as well and Violet both make about her relationship/her in general). Go back and watch it once you know the twist! You’ll really see it then.

This might just be me and my demisexual tendencies, but that mirror scene would have been so much more POWERFUL if Colin knew by that point that Pen was Lady Whistledown. Maybe the implied symbolism of "I truly see you now and love you for who you are" would feel heavy-handed to some, but as an avid fan of slow-burn freinds-to-lovers stories, I'm not here for gratuitous sex; I watch for the emotional connections. This season gave me far too much pretty porn and not enough love-making. Even Colin and Pen's love didn't have the heat I was craving. The actors did well, but their steamy scenes felt a bit overstaged.

As a demi romantic, I agree with you.
While I am not for steamy scenes normally, Penelope and Colin’s were different because of the romantic intimacy within the physical and I loved their first time in the book and am glad they replicated it verbatim in the show.
I just hate how they dragged the LW stuff on when we could have gotten more sweet moments with them like her reading the journals and him being nervous as he watched her read them.

Hopeless romantic and superfreak here 😅 I really enjoyed thier love scene. I've already watched it 3 times. To me it was very realistic. Actually almost too realistic because Nichola and Luke have crazy off screen chemistry. Need I remind you all that the director had to yell STOP! in one scene. And in the mirror scene they broke the chaise.😂 Some people also say that they looked awkward. Well, that's also realistic because it Pen's first time ever, and I'm sure us ladies can recall feeling that intial pain, and awkrwardness because you're green.😅 I also feel that some of the critique stems from the fact that people have different love making styles.

Every time Penelope had an amazing moment, it was stolen by something or someone else. Either the Whistledown secret was looming over or someone came in and stole the spotlight. I wish she had told Colin the first five minutes of ep. 5, that Colin would instantly forgive her because of his realization that he loves her madly, and that he would have become very protective of her identity because he knows she’s a boss and he can provide even more protection as a Bridgerton with their good standing in society. So then we could’ve had a bunch of cute romantic moments between the two of them against the ton and the Queen and their search for Whistledown. I hope Shonda Rhimes is watching this channel and reads our comments! Hello, we can help! 😂

***Spoiler for ep 7 and 8****
I know this isn’t about episodes 7 and 8 but I really do like the fact that they didn’t make Colin so mad at Penelope that he becomes bitter and childish like Daphne and Simon or Charlotte and George. You can see he is still drawn to Penelope, he still loves her, he just genuinely needs some time to process his thoughts on the matter. He sleeps on the couch outside the bedroom even though they have guest bedrooms, he draws near her at Fran’s wedding, at their own wedding he draws near her, they still speak to each other, but it’s like he says, there is just something that is blocking him from fully jumping back into the lovey-dovey with Penelope and he needs to figure it out so that he can. Basically, the way that Colin and Penelope had distance speaks to people who are in love with each other, who are drawn to each other but have to figure out how to overcome the hurdle that is currently in their way, whereas the way Daphne and Simon fought spoke to people who wanted to be petty for the sake of being petty, the door slamming, the yelling, I don’t like any of that. But I will admit that Colin was being petty with the “entrapment” line to Penelope - like sir were you not the one who DJ’d her then proposed? Pls be serious

    • @melody_shmelody
      @melody_shmelody Před 2 měsíci +14

This is actually a fair point. I didn’t like how long he took and I think it’s because we didn’t get enough of each of them (especially him) continuing to process not only the LE news but also how much and why he loved her. There was the moment with the letters. And some brief convos. Maybe if everything else hadn’t been clouding the episodes these would have stood out more? I had a lot of issues with part 2 in general, but what really disappointed me is it was marketed (*so* heavily) as this big romance show and season with a main couple that it would be focused on, and it just didn’t deliver that. It felt like, especially in pt 2, that Polin got as much, if not less than the million other storylines going on and the show has just become a drama with a bit of romance in it, like Scandal and Grey’s and Shonda’s other shows. While S1 wasn’t perfect by any standard, I do feel like they got the pacing and amount of focus on the main couple pretty much right, but it just seems like a different show now. If it wants to now be a ensemble drama with a bit of romance, then ok but just don’t market it the same way, it’s just misleading 🤷

I think the writers were not as in love with the Polin love story as the other couplings and that's why the romance is not romancing and doesn't feel as indulgent as it should be. It may be for this reason that this season feels very plot-driven, as that seems to be the focus. Not the romance.
I was happy to see the parts that showed Colin redeeming himself and him articulating his love for Penelope. However, it doesn't give me an overarching or satisfying feeling as seeing the main couples of the other seasons finally getting together. All the drama intertwined in this season has dampened the 'feels' somewhat. I did like Penelope and Eloise's scenes as they started to make up.
I am thankful that we got at least a few scenes with Penelope and Madame Delacroix but it is now jarring that they're having Lady Danbury 'assist' everyone else in their 'business' EXCEPT for Penelope. Do you think they gave her an embargo on Penelope?! lol *I jest* 😛

Series 2, he moves up to owning a successful gentlemen's club, pulling him up again. This series his family is promoted to minor aristocracy, but the ton doesn't accept them because they're in trade. So they are pretty much shunned until he sells the club, and they hold the ball. What I didn't get was that, all of a sudden, they are already sufficiently popular for the ballroom to be packed. Not that it wasn’t hot but the fact that Colin still doesn’t know about her secret knocks down the steaminess of the scene more than I expected. I completely agree with you that I feel like they set up Penelope in a bad way. She is not like this in the books. I especially dislike the delay in LW reveal to Colin because it made Pen appear more deceitful than she actually is and it taints what has always been such a beautiful and wholesome love. Also, it’s frustrating that while I do enjoy Benedict, he got more love scenes during a Polin season than Penelope and Colin did. I kept feeling like I missed them and it’s their season. I don’t know. I don’t necessarily dislike this season but there is so much more that I wish could have occurred and things that could have been done differently to enhance their love story. I also wonder how much the month long gap affected my viewing experience. Like would have liked it more or understood their reasoning for certain creative decisions better if I had seen it in one go the same way I watched season two. Lots of think about. I wish I could feel less critical. Maybe I will feel differently once I watch the back half again.

I'll unpack this a bit more once I'm back in town and able to film but my wait being as long as it was between episodes 1-6 and 7-8 significantly damaged my emotional investment in the viewing experience for Colin/Penelope's love story. With all the talk among fans saying that Polin was a favourite of the show higher-ups I thought that they would get a lot more air time and HAPPY moments than they ended up getting now that it was their turn to be the main couple. I thought that they would've learned from the extremely negative feedback of having a giant unnecessary subplot that more or less no one liked taking away air time for Kanthony in their own season and instead they added twelve thousand more subplots that I didn't want to watch in Polin's season (what I wanted to watch was POLIN BEING CUTE BESTIES FALLING IN LOVVVVVVVVE). 😂

Agreed, even after overlooking all the rushed storylines, the one thing I couldn’t overlook is Penelope not being upfront with Colin and dragging it out, she was acting like Marina 2.0, and Marina was objectively in a much worse situation. It made her seem selfish and uncaring of Colin and colored all of their interactions post engagement. Penelope, as I understood her, is not a hypocrite, nor would she string her loved ones along like this. At the same time, yes, she does have a selfish side with respect to her career. I feel strongly that neither Colin nor Penelope’s characters were written coherently in this season.

I hate saying this but Cressida and Lady Featherington stole the spotlight for part 2 for me. I was just so over Penelope being really miserable for most of this season, and the big secret during an engagement gave me karmic flashbacks to Marina that I did not like. I was pretty over the main storyline with her and Colin and her and Eloise because it just made me cringe to watch.
Cressida’s not bright - but I felt for her, it was interesting to see her family dynamic and how she tries to desperately get herself out of her situation.
I really liked all part 2 scenes with Lady Featherington and Penelope. That growth was so important and so very human too. They did a great job with that and the acting was great.
Benedict’s storyline I was pretty meh about it. They just inserted his scenes in the weirdest and most uncomfortable places. I like the idea of him exploring, but damn, I did love the personable scenes with him and his family more.
    Kanthony was amazing as always

We needed balance. We needed happy Polin after the LW reveal. We went from Eloise, Colin, and the Queen piling onto Penelope to boom babies!! We never got like a happy Polin scene in their own home. It felt something was just missing. I dont care about Benny at this point unless Sophie's involved.

My thoughts are clustered but here they are… Tbh I skipped all Benedict’s ‘fling’ storyline. Loved all his scenes with the siblings, although they were barely any :( and what is up with Michaela?? It felt forced. It felt they only wanted to be inclusive. Even though we cannot be 100% sure if that is true but I could see when Francesca first saw Michaela, she was kinda speechless and from that I knew there will be no Michael. I do not wish for them to do 20 eps like the old days but like you said 8 is way too little, everything was rushed. And too many sides stories were presented, all the Benedict’s fling story, the mondritch (can’t spell), like what did we even get from them at the end? Even with Cressida , did we need all that backstory to understand her blackmailing and her lying about being whistledown? Really liked when Kathony were giving advice to Colin but I wished they could have stayed when polin were dealing with the identity of whistledown. Even if they did not help like they did in the book, but it would have been nice to have all of them together then. John and Francesca were too cute and I wish to see more of their relationship in her season. Eloise moving with them was a surprise but I am excited to see how they will run with it. Although I do agree with you that they should have el stay with the family. I want polin and el to be altogher and happy together. The way Penelope solved the problem with the forged money with cousin jack wa clever I have to say. Tbh their intimate scenes were not as good as I hoped it would be. It felt very personal and it felt awkward for me to watch lol. I felt they hyped up the mirror scene so much that when I watched it, it was only so so. It was incredibly beautiful to see and to hear from Nicola of how proud she is of the scenes and they both did so well with such intimate scenes but I have to say that I liked the booked better, even thought they did used direct quotes from the book which was so nice to see. I loved that at the end Portia and Penelope agreed to do better together and it was nice to see them holding hands just before pen revealed herself. Also Cressida and Eloise, it felt strange when Eloise suddenly dropped Cressida when she revealed herself as whistledown. I mean I knew all along that she still deeply cared for pen but she was so quick to think so badly of Cressida. Thinking that she would write the fake paperback, damaging her family’s name. I did suspect that it was Cressidas mother who wrote about it but at the end we did not get anything from it. Idk honestly. And also yes the relationship between pen and lady Danbury, I still cannot believe they cut all that out, I agree with all you said about them. I could see that they tried to handle this but it was not enough. Remember part one, she disregarded pen when the queen was asking who pen was. Although I do understand why she did but still. As you can see my thoughts are all over but thanks if you are still reading lol. It is just my opinion. Also the only part that I like about Cressida is when she told Eloise how she understood why pen and her were no longer friends because all el does is talk. And that conversation I thought was great for el to reflect on herself. I a,so felt that most if not all polin’s happy moments are before him finding out about whistledown and so it felt like that were not so much of their true happiness. The whistledown storyline is taking away too much of their relationship. I wished to see more about then even from part 1. Where is the meet cute scene when they were younger.😢 and yes also madam delaquave (lol I can’t spell) I did like that pen had another friend to confide to but it was so short and kinda random like one min she is here and then next min she’s gone. Idk how to explain but yeah. Reflecting back now I wish to see more of the bridgertons with pen. Loved when hyacinth went straight to hugging pen. They could have showed us all the reasons why pen was so deperasrly wanted to be a part of this family. They could have showed us what they are to her, what they have been doing for her and how much they care for her. Ok enough for now, my thoughts I mean. To end this, I wanted to say you are one of my favorite commentator of the series and I do agree with most if not all your comments. What was hugely disappointing for me for season 3, is all the wasted time on the side stories instead of focusing on colin and Pen. There was so much misunderstanding that they needed more time to get through, they could have stuck to the book in how it handled Polin relationship. Why put so much pressure leading up to their wedding ans Colin sleeping on the couch ignoring his wife, that was too much. I hope they give them so more time in the next season since they focused so much on Benedict fling. And is it just me but interracial dating is no longer taboo so please stop acting like its a shock. Also Francesca after finally getting married looks miserable and not as happy as the first part of season 3. Did not watch the whole video but I 100% agree with what you said about leaving reviewers with episode 6, I was so confused about this decision too because reviewers can’t give a full review of a FULL SEASON if they don’t have the FULL SEASON. If reviews on this season are sour, then it is entirely on Netflix as they risked one of their main moneymakers on this strategy (I know this wasn’t on Shondaland because even she said “ask Netflix” when asked about the season split). I get the idea of not wanting the last two episodes to be spoiled, but that ended up happening anyways, and to a way worse degree than I think they expected because of this waiting period and people’s impatience. I ended up being spoiled on stuff when I wasn’t even looking for spoilers, just opened instagram and BAM! HUGE spoiler on episode 8 at the top of my page two days ago. Two days before I could even watch this scene unfold in front of my eyes with fresh eyes and with the full context of the rest of the episodes. Honestly want to ask the execs up at Netflix myself what they were thinking with this decision

I have a lot of opinions about this season, so Im sorry in advance about the length of this comment.
I HATED the tilt camera and I feel so validated by this video, tell me why the first thing that came up to mind was "is this a fucking sam raimi movie" and then had to google to fact check that because I cant believe that was knowledge stored in my mind.
AND while I am on the topic of camera work, why does the show look so... cheap. S1 and 2 were gorgeous this looks like a hallmark movie, it is jarring. The part when polin catch eachother on the street before the wedding, looks like a schoolplay set. Please someone explain this to me, did they use different cameras? Why is the photography so bad!
The other thing I hated was the pacing.. for part one if felt much better upon a second and third rewatch and I imagine I will feel the same but I hated that they did not let the moments marinate a little bit more to build up tension, let the characters breathe for gods sake. I know it all comes to one thing, too many characters, not enough episodes!
That reminds me what the hell was the entire point of the Mondriches' plot! Where do they want to go with that?
I liked the season but I wanted so much more for Polin, they deserved better.

The look of the show has progressively cheapened as it has gone on. I remember being in awe of the closing scene with the fireworks and the dancing in the first season’s first episode. I think production costs increasing is a factor but I also wonder how much the more elaborate costuming and wigs for season 3 played a role. I for one loved the Mondrich storyline so I’m confused as to why it didn’t seem to go anywhere but I think it’ll be continued in later seasons. I am hoping the Cowpers are gone for good and the Featherington story has tied quite nicely so they probably need characters to be other fixtures of the ton along with Lady Danbury and Queen Charlotte.

I'm also sad that so much of Eloise's screentime was with Cressida, I initially didn't mind that they were humanising and fleshing out the villain so to speak if she had actually had a good character development arc- instead she ends up acting selfish again and it feels like all that time spent on hers and Eloises friendship was wasted. In some ways it served to show some of Eloises flaws that were already visible with Pen last season but hmm. It's not even that I don't understand Cressida, her actions made sense for the time and her family circumstances but with this season ending with her driving off and not being in contact with Eloise anymore its just like...what was all this for then and could the time instead have been used for something else? I personally didn't need all this backstory to make sense out of her decision to pretend to be Lady Whistledown. But who knows, maybe she'll play a role again in the future. Though I do have to say in my opinion there were quite a lot of touching family moments of the Bridgertons this second half, of course there can always be more but I was quite happy.

I’m all for an interesting villain backstory and exploration, but with Cressida it just didn’t work for me. I would also rather have seen Eloise spend time with her family instead. Basically I agree with all of your critiques lmao. And I hate that there was very little mention or reflection of why Eloise ended up in a scandal in the first place - I wanted her to confide in someone (besides Penelope, probably a member of her family. she gave some vague hints to Benedict at the end of season 2 but that was it) about her relationship with Theo, because none of her family really got the details of what she was doing in whistledown’s issue exposing her. True. I was so surprised that she turned on Cressida after she tried to pass as LW. Why? She had no understandable reason for it. She was even happy about it and convinced Pen to let her take the credit.
Especially because she knew why Cressida would do that.
It would have made more sense for her to forsake her after the fake LW Society Paper.
Eloise in part 2, while closer to S1 and s2 Eloise, felt inconsistent with the grown up, more mature woman she was in part 1.
At least she still admits her mistakes and admit to being petty, which is a huge deal for her 😂
And the writers trying to sell her as wise?! Like no. She has never been wise. Clever and intelligent yes. But wise? Not one cell of this immature privileged girl is.
I thought the jealousy plot would go for Eloise because it had been set up this way but it didn't go anywhere.
It fortunately didn't even really go to Colin either because it was about him understanding that being his sensitive, supportive self is enough and that's a great theme (especially for a man in an environment reeking of toxic masculinity).
They also often mention how Pen ruined or nearly ruined El. But... No she wasn't? Everyone gets over her attending political assemblies in a few days (probably in part because no one was surprised given how un subtle her dislike of society is) and Pen never reveals a thing about Theo.

    • @alexblainelayter7703
      @alexblainelayter7703 Před 2 měsíci

@@elisa4620 Yes, Eloise definitely felt inconsistently written. The moment she learnt of her brother's engagement, she orders Penelope to tell him her secret because 'until he truly knows you he cannot love you' - I mean, the moment she found out, she cancelled their friendship, so I don't see the logic here. And it's not a great incentive for Penelope. And then she had the gall to ask how long Penelope has been in love with her brother. I mean, if she had paid any attention to her alleged best friend instead of ranting about the unfairness of life as an aristrocratic woman, chasing down Lady Whistledown and daydreaming about Theo, she may have noticed. Interestingly enough, Eloise said she didn't want to break her brother's heart by revealing Penelope's secret to him but she only pursued this path once she realised how pissed off he'd be at her for keeping the secret. Self-serving motive again. It's actually quite sad that Penelope, who grew up with a really narcissistic mother, is drawn to self-absorbed people. Colin's feelings for her, as per show, are pretty much built on how she makes him feel seen. Yes, he definitely cherishes her kindness and friendship but he took her for granted way too long. Penelope is consistently cast in the supporting role and that's doing her a disservice. Outing her as Whistledown diminished her because that was how she turned being overlooked into power. All in all, not my favourite season. Penelope deserved better.

Wait... On the day of the premier you weren't given the opportunity to watch the last episodes?? Man, this is really awful. Like I've seen people giving spoilers in Instagram for episode 7 and 8?! I love your videos, they give just enough to keep one person hooked - netflix really needs to get their shit together 😢

If leaks were happening, I have no choice but to laugh because they for damn sure weren’t coming from me! 😂
I only wanted the last episodes so I could prepare a COMPLETE review ahead of time. I’m out of the country right now! I just had dessert in a different time zone after getting some much-needed errands done, I’m not losing any sleep over some screeners (though my sleep HAS been a mess from jet lag, haha 🫨)

I've been refraining on commenting on any of these videos until I had the context of the entire season to work. And, um, I'm disappointed. The best part of the season was the final scenes setting up the next few seasons, which is bad form. It really felt like they were just trying to get past Colin and Penelope's romance, which is sad, because their friendshipbwas so compelling in season 1 and 2.

This is me commenting before I watch part 2, but I don’t mind them having her keep the secret AS LONG AS IT’S FOR A GOOD REASON. I think of it like Kate keeping the secret that she was in love with Anthony from Edwina. Kate thought that marrying Anthony was the best course of action for Edwina, even when it definitely wasn’t because Edwina deserved a good love match. As long as there is a good reason, as long as she feels its for the good of Colin in some way, shape or form (even if it isn’t) or as long as it doesn’t just stem from selfishness, maybe it stems from hyper-independence from having only herself to rely on her whole life, then I’m fine with it. Those sweet moments they share won’t be as tainted for me like the moments Kanthony shared in season 2 weren’t tainted because I know she isn’t doing it for selfish reasons. Hopefully they are going this route or I’m gonna be honest, I won’t enjoy part 2 as much.
Will be coming back in a few hours after watching part 2 to see if I was right.

Exactly, so far, I don’t see any justification other than her hesitation that she’ll be hated and lose her chance for happiness. I’m not seeing any consideration for Colin or the bridgerton family. I may be wrong, will have to come back after watching part 2

I find this season incredibly frustrating because the chronology of events and unresolved issues makes it really hard to enjoy any of the romantic moments Colin and Penelope share in latter half of the season. It destroys any investment I have in their story and makes it feel incredibly stilted. Nothing is landing for me.

I knew Bridgerton was in trouble once it changed showrunners. I loved Pen and Colin,'s story but Benedict and Francesca's story is now ruined, no thanks to Blackrock via Netflix DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion). So sick of shows and movies being ruined. 😢

The fact that he used what would hurt her the most ( the distance, the rejection, the bullying and curt words) to get back at her for being Whistledown essentially made him a villan instead of a romantic lead.
Especially because to me his Whistledown anger is wholy misplaced. He felt so foolish for the Marina situation he decided to place the blame on Whistledown and not himself. Later he just finds reasons to hate her more (i.e. Eloise). Nevermind that Whistheldown is always saving his family from ruin. Nop. That means nothing. Anyways, I digress.

  • @TangentialTif

The Whistledown drama really destroyed the vibes of the season. You are completely right that the mid-season cliffhanger should have been the Whistledown reveal to Colin, because as it was every nice thing was covered in a cloud of “this will feel hollow when Colin finds out” instead of letting us enjoy it. It just was an increasing sense of doom the whole season.

i really question Netflix's promotion strategy for season 3. Up until Valentines Day we had only a couple of stills and then after Valentines Day, Netflix started releasing clips and promos at seemingly random times and days. By May it seemed like daily we would get additional clips. On the flip side, Netflix seemed to give screeners to a lot of the review channels who were their target audiences, which make sense. However then their review embargo did not lift until after the show was released so the people who would normally be hyping the show the most couldn't say anything until the show released. Then even after release it seemed like a lot of channels that I thought had screeners so would release multiple review videos still didn't release videos. I get trying to build up hype for the release, but it seemed like Netflix's strategy silenced the people that they most wanted to talk and gush beforehand to give them publicity. It just doesn't make business sense.

I believe Colin's attempts to find connection, meaning, and purpose, his class clown or hero personas, and his relationship issues all through the show are tied up in a kind of trauma reaction to losing his father and his mother's deep grief/depression at an impressionable age. These could all easily be explained as possible reactions to abandonment issues if the initial loss happened when he was old enough to remember but not enough to fix anything. Since he couldn't save his father or cure his mother's grief, the best he could do is entertain everyone and make them as safe and happy as possible with the tools available to a young boy. He may not have been able to progress past that until the family trauma had healed more through time passing and the eventual marriages of his older sister and brother (those relationships helped each sibling deal with their trauma, so they could be better help to Colin by example). It's obvious to me that Colin craves connection and commitment for roughly the same reason Anthony ran screaming from it for years. Because the tragic sudden loss of their father and their mother's extreme complicated grief took part of their childhood and made them all grow up too fast in some ways while stunting their development in others. Daphne and Anthony became de facto parents and head of household even while Daphne hadn't yet entered puberty and Anthony had only just reached his majority, years before either should have been expected to shoulder these burdens. Colin couldn't take on either role, so he became everyone's entertainment, their respite. But who comforts the comforting one? No one. Who respects the hard work behind entertaining everyone? No one. So he gave without anyone realizing how much he gave, worked for years with no one seeing that it was work. Emotional labour is a real thing deserving respect, but Colin and Benedict did so much of it while being passed by like wallpaper. It's frustrating.

The intimate scenes between Colin & Pen were far & few between, it feels intentional. Makes one wonder if it’s due to the writers inability to see Pen as someone worthy of sexual desire. I don’t usually comment on things like this, but I am personally bothered by the lackluster moments between the two main characters. I’ve seen an article of the show runner mentioning that she was highly invested in Francesca & John’s love story. And you see the difference in the organic way their love story unravels on the show & with very little screen time. It proves to us viewers the writers are able to tell a beautiful love story, yet we got crumbs for Polin. Is it bc Fran is more of the ideal romantic lead? There was more than enough romance from the book for Pen & Colin to have an amazing love story on the show, so many moments that would have had us romance girlies flushed for weeks. Yet we got nothing but more than a weekend at Bernie’s. Can’t help but think it’s bc of the writers not being fans of Polin.

But supposedly they are fans of Polin since they have sprinkled it each seasons before.
So that kinda makes the lack of true romance for them worst. They had elements to make it sweet and romantic and not rushed. It wasn't any of it.
