As travel and photo enthusiast, I would prefer the lighter and more compact Air M2 with the upgraded memory and storage. There is no way I would carry the Pro 14 with all my camera gears when I travel. So it depends on the individuals i guess. I'm willing to lose seconds or even minutes on processing for a lighter gear.

The problem for photographers (professional or not) with the Air is in the quality of the display. The Air M2 is the loser in display quality especially if you are on the road.
I’m currently thinking over whether to buy the 15” M2 Air or going the extra £500+ for the smaller and heavier M2 Pro MacBook, but I keep thinking about how much better the Pro display is over the Air’s.

I used to have a website, and built my own webpages. I also sold my handmade jewelry, and hand knits, taking my own photos with my Canon EOS Rebel and Canon EF lens. My desktop was a Dell with Windows 7 Pro and 2T hard drive. I also took allot of photos in NYC to put on my site. I used an old version of Photoshop 5.5. Since I don't have the website anymore, I got a 13.6 M2 MacBook Air with 16 gigs of ram memory, and 512 SSD storage. I'm using my iPhone 13 Pro to take allot of photos in NYC. Question, what should I put on my Air to edit photos? Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, or should I just use the photo program that is on the Air? Sad to say when my Dell hard drive died, my computer guy took my computer and seagate external drive, until I could afford to get another 2T hard drive. Things happened, that forced me to move. I just found out the guy threw out all my stuff. My seagate had all my product photos, and NYC photos. I had almost 1000 photos, so probably would not all fit on my laptop. Now I'm starting from scratch, I wan't to know what is the best program to use for editing my photos from iPhone. Photo guy at Apple Store said, they don't support Photoshop, which I find odd. Elements you can buy, but photoshop is subscription only now. Please let me know what you recommend Chris?

I edit gopro videos on my ipad pro using lumafusiom and I am planning to switch to MacBook for final cut pro. I don’t mind how long export takes, I just don’t want to have any lags while editing.
I decided to go with an upgraded MacBook air m2 because it’s light weight and mobility as most of my editing will be while sitting in bed or on the couch.
I will give a try for 14 days, If I don’t like its performance , i will return it and get the MacBook 14 pro

@@namede6210 Well I had to return it and get the 14 Pro with 32GB, but here’s what happened.
First, After I got the M2 Air, I went and purchased the 14 M1 Pro 16 GB and compared it to the Air M2 16 GB, honestly I felt the M2 was better in video editing. It was a bit faster than the M1 pro which surprised me. Photo editing was the same however the M2 was reaching 108F but I didn’t see a lot of difference between the M2 and M1 pro 16GB.( I only tried using Luminar Neo which is not very optimized , but if you use Lightroom, the Air M2 will be good).
Then I got the M1 pro 32GB to compare it with the Air M2 and M1 Pro 16GB, and I saw huge difference in photo editing.
If the M2 Air had the 32GB, I would have got it, but unfortunately it doesn’t, so I kept the M1 pro 32GB and returned the 16GB M1 pro and Air M2.
If you’re not sure what to get, you can get get multiple MacBooks and compare them, then return the ones you don’t need. Apple, Amazon and bestbuy have free returns with no restocking fees.
      Hope this helps

Hi Chris: I really enjoyed viewing this video. I am in the process of replacing a 2015 iMac Retina along with a 2017 Mac Book Pro. I am an avid but non-professional photographer so you video has certainly helped me in my buying decision. I have decided to go with the Mac Book Pro M1Pro vs. the Mac Book Air due to your video. My question is; Should I upgrade from 16 to 32 Gig of RAM along with upgrading to a 1TB SDD? I want to 'future-proof' my purchase as much as I can. Once the MacBook Pro is ordered I will be buying a Mac Studio Display shortly thereafter once my cash-flow position improves. Do you have any further recommendations? Thanks, Keith

great review thank you very much, but I have one question your opinion is very important. we understand that a 14-inch base model is a great option and more logical to buy that one instead of upgrading the m2 air, but what can you say about the m2 MacBook pro and upgrading that one to 16GB and 512GB? yes, I understand that this one also comes very close to the 14-inch MacBook base model, and yes I understand that this one does not have the same display as the 14-inch also touch-bar but just a moment forget about the touch-bar and display, liking touch-bar or not liking it is a very subjective thing. the argument that you and all people bringing is that if you are coming that much closer to 14 inches with an upgrade price for 200 or 300 more you can buy 14 inches but 200 or 300 is still a lot of money if you care about display quality you can upgrade 13-inch MacBook m2 pro upgrade it and not getting 14 inches and instead of adding 200 or 300 to buy 14 inches you can add 200 more and for total 500 $ buy very solid color accurate 4k monitor, what can you say about this scenario?

Haven't watched the video yet so you might have come to the same conclusion but I think the m2 is plenty powerful for photo workflows. I think the m1 was powerful enough. 8gb of ram is the issue that holds it back from being the perfect lightweight photography machine though. @@ChrisPieta oh I can definitely understand how you got to your final conclusions. I think what I commented is slightly different from the question you answered at the end though. I ran into bottlenecks with 8gb just while having photoshop and lightroom open at the same time. 16gb would have solved that and made it good enough for most editing. As a pro though I agree with your conclusion and would also skip the air.

Except most photographers are using external drives for their work flow and not the internal storage. You’re being unrealistic. In reality all you need the internal storage for is to store your editing programs. Pretty sure most people aren’t saving thousands of photos on the internal drive for editing. If anything get 16gb of unified memory.
