  • Reacting to another BabyMetal song, this is Brand New Day. I've gotten tons of recommendations but this one intrigued me as I understand it was co-written with Polyphia, let's check it out!

    Nice reaction. This is definitely one of BABYMETAL's "softer" songs ... they played it when I saw them in London in November and it was great - it also provided everybody a bit of breathing space to cool down between the heavier, faster and more frenzied songs. I'm sure the people in the mosh pits needed a bit of a rest.
    The song is actually very uplifting and optimistic as well - when Su sings "It's gonna be OK, all right" you just have to believe her.

    Thanks for this reaction, glad you enjoyed it, not the most spectacular song in Babymetal discography, but very fitting for the feature.
    The way how Babymetal now tries to make featured song is: create a song in the style of the other artist with their own flair, so it feels like the featured artists is the natural missing part.
    It's amazing how Babymetal is able to extract the essence of a music genre and giving their own interpretation of it.

    Welcome back to the Foxhole and now with Metal Galaxy era.🦊🤘🔥
    Metal Galaxy is a wonderful album and full of surprises, you're gonna find many more like this with more mature sound, it came out in 2019 so isn't so new but is one of the songs with more mature sound.
    Like you already know, this song got the collaboration of Polyphia guitarists, Tim Henson and Scott LePage but only in the solo section and you can listen to it in the album versions. Polyphia got a viral clip when they were performing live and having an issue with the drummer IEM not working and a roadie helped him out in an unorthodox way to save the show, very funny clip.
    Tim Henson also said when listening to this song that he would love to play this along with BabyMetal on the stage, he didn't know the final cut when he was doing the riffs on this song. Btw they finally met each other when doing a festival last year and took a pic together but they didn't play together this song yet.
    The dance on this song is beautiful and graceful, they're showing another mature side and more complicated choreography. According to MoaMetal is the hardest song to dance along with BxMxC and Night Night Burn iirc.
    Song is inspired by certain "City Pop" band and Utada Hikaru songs, when SuMetal heard this she doubt about this being a metal song but then the guitars solo were added and all make senses suddenly.
    This is a live edit of 10 BabyMetal Budokan 2021, the girls love the 2021 version, you can appreciate the dance choreo a lot more rather than only silhouettes in the Legend Metal Galaxy 2020 version.
    Untill Budokan 2021 they played BND only three times, but they brought back this beautiful song at NEX_FEST Festival and later was part of certain dates during the Europe Tour in November and December.
    Keep enjoying BM songs and see you next time 🦊🤘🔥

    Great reaction, thanks!
    "Brand New Day" is not among my top favorite. It was a kind of "rarity" regarding live performances (this video features the 2nd/3rd time they performed it live). But they already have played it a few more times during their last EU/UK tour. I admit it's not my thing musically. The live performance is absolutely amazing, though.
    🤘🦊

    For me this was a surprise hit on the Metal Galaxy album. I didn't know Polyphia, but this is right up my alley. I love complex rhythms and groove, and the shredding with a relatively clean sound is very cool.

    Nice, great reaction! This is one of my favorite "chill" Babymetal songs, and Polyphia is one of my favorite bands as well, so best of both worlds.
    A few things to note:
    *1). Backing Vocals:* The backup dancers are also on backing vocals as well, and you will hear them on most songs.
    *2). 2010 - 2017:* Original line up of Su, Moa and Yui. Yui stopped performing due to health late 2017, and left the group Oct 2018. During period, you'll see and hear Yui on the backing vocals, along with Moa. If you look closer, they all had headset mics. The backing vocals have heavier percentage of track usage, due to the choreography involved. Whereas Su's vocals are almost always live, with a few exceptions.
    *3). 2018 - 2023:* Babymetal had a slew of backup dancers/formations while they figured out what to do with the 3rd spot. Momoko joined in 2019 as 1 of 3 backup dancers (Avengers) rotating in and out of Yui's spot, BUT, none of them ever has a mic. Thus, during this period, all backing vocals are just Moa.
    *4). Apr 2023 and onwards:* Momoko supported Babymetal the most, and became an official 3rd member Apr 2nd 2023 (becoming Momometal). She now has a mic and she will sing Yui's lines in older songs. Momometal will also have her own lines in all new songs moving forward, starting with their newest single, Metali (Aug 2023).
    *5). Moa & Yui:* They have 4 songs as "Black Babymetal", where they sing and perform without Su, just as Su has 4 solos. They've also taken lead vocals on various birthday related special performances.
    Look forward to more! 🤘🦊

    Thanks again and good morning from Japan 有難う💛。 Brand New Day is a suitable song for fresh start of your day. This song has been so far performed only 4 times on stage at two venues in Japan (and 8 times in 2023 EU/UK tour). Very fortunately I witnessed 3 times in arena shows including this very performance filmed on Day-7 & 8 of 10 BABYMETAL BUDOKAN Concerts in 2021. Kami Band's play referring to Polyphia's work was caress to ears. Su's voice had celestial beauty and dance moves by Moa & Momoko were elegant.

    If I could wish myself to be in attendence of any BM concert thru the years, it would be this 2021 Budokan show. That night, the lucky attendies were treated to BM's rarely performed new era masterpiece, From Dusk Til Dawn. Su's Other-Worldy vocals reach highs (both figuratively and literaly) I wouldn't have thought humanly possible. Some have conjectured they are so taxing on Su, that that is the reason FDTD has only been performed three times.

    Thank you for your wonderful Reaction"Polyphia" Timothy Henson and Scott LePage are featured on impressive guitars, but did not perform on this show. Henson and LePage are featured precisely on Metal Galaxy album.
      The sound on this video is from the live show 10 BABYMETAL Budokan Doomsday VII-VIII (2021).
      The Kami Band members playing here were: Takayoshi Ohmura and ISAO (guitars), BOH (bass) and Hideki Aoyama (drums). 😊

    I know you mentioned Polyphia in the last one, but you also mentioned you weren't digging the poppiness, and we linked you one of their poppiest songs. XD There's a pop element in all their songs. It's kind of their thing. But there are much, *much* harder songs. Hope you enjoy them.

  • @alancarter41

    While I appreciate the production and choreography, this song seems way more Jpop than their usual music so not one I will listen to again. When I listen to BM it is for the metal instrumentals the band produces, certainly not for the Jpop singing. Not even interested enough to look up the lyrics.

    • @metalzonereactions
      @metalzonereactions  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I had some comments warning me that this was their most pop song, so I went in expecting that. BTW what songs of theirs do you like?

    • @alancarter41
      @alancarter41 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@metalzonereactions It was still interesting to see it, certainly different from their usual sound. For me, BM is a change of pace band when I get tired of my usual bands and I have to watch the video since I get more from the visuals than the music. "Death" is visually stunning and I love the driving beat at the beginning. There is almost no singing, just crowd chants. "Rondo of Nightmare with the Mischiefs of Metal Gods intro" has some awesome solos and driving drums. And I guess "Distortion," "Road of Resistance," "Gimme Chocolate."

    • @alancarter41
      @alancarter41 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@metalzonereactions Oh, I should add that a lot of their live shows, especially outside Japan and before they were "discovered" are fun to watch. They are really great showmen and seeing them try to get the crowd to sing along is interesting.
