Well I guess I can't have a famous guitar solos section of GL365 without including the legendary solo in Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody".
Brian May composed one of the most melodic and memorable solos in classic rock history for Bohemian Rhapsody. The song is so epic in itself that I am sure he was thinking that nothing but the best would do, and he certainly delivered.
Technically, this Bohemian Rhapsody guitar lesson does present a few challenges to us guitarists.
First off, there are some tricky pre-bends in there that are essential to the correct phrasing of the solo.
In addition to that there are a couple fast runs to deal with. Now if you follow along with the video lesson you will see that the fast runs are simply the same patterns repeated so they shouldn't take to long to grasp.
But those pre-bends will definitely need some special attention in order to do them right.
Brian May is one of the few guitarist to come along that has an instantly recognizable sound and style. His solo for Bohemian Rhapsody is considered by many to be his greatest work.
Therefore, it is essential for virtually every guitarist to take a little time studying this masterpiece. There are many things to learn no matter what style of guitar playing you prefer.
Now Scaramusch!! Actually, I have no idea what that means...
I was able to learn this in under an hour! Thanks so much for teaching one of the greatest solos I know!
Its not actually riff, its solo.
i hope that was a typo, god bless your soul if it was not
CGC
Me too
Never though I'd be able to play this - thanks Carl!
Royston17 Same man!
bro ive been playing for 7 months, and this is my favorite song. so i practiced this solo for about 2 hrs and i finally got it!
its one of the easiest solos ever dude you can do it chill ;)
Yeah, I checked this out imagining to quit after one minute but I found out it's way easier than I thought, thanks
Yh this is like the easiest reasonable solo ever. I took around the same time and I've never played a proper solo before
I am playing on acoustic and can’t reach the frets 😔
Play reaching from the top (it's harder tho)
xDeathwish1 Yea it is i am saving up for a guitar though
Prison Mike buy an eletric
Same
Same😭
Thanks, man! I've only been playing for about 4 months and I took on this as a challenge to beat for 1 year of playing, eventually. But I've already mastered it! Never thought I could do that as a beginner! My progress on this solo has inspired me to keep playing and to learn new solos. Be back here for my next one!
Bro I got a guitar 2 days ago and idek what to do. I can play the piano well so I think ima play the first part of bohemian rhapsody and add in the guitar solo
@@arney2 I’m doing the exact same thing. I’ve done piano for 9 years and guitar for 3 months
Dude great job man, I’ve had mine since April I’m just starting the video wish me luck!
@@arney2 🤣
yoo how are you rocking now?? been 2 years since you wrote this comment!
nobody:
Carl: *plays one of the most iconic solos ever like it was nothing*
also Carl: heyy goiys😎
It actually isn't that difficult. It's such an awesome and fun solo to play but if you've been playing a bit you'll be able to get it pretty easily. I'm more impressed when he plays the TNT solo by AC/DC and just goes "hey guys"
@@andjustjizzforall just leave the poor joke alone
Yeah totally rhett
No he even plays eruption by van halen and goes with "hey guys"
habibi it’s not funny it never was and it’s not gonna be funny the more it’s overused
Imagine a ripped gym-dude saying "Sweet lick, Bro!"
just did that
just did that
just did that
just did that
just did that
This was great! I thought it’d be really hard to learn but 20 minutes later and I’m playing it perfectly. Thanks a ton!
Don't forget to wear eye protection whilst practicing this 👍 it's worth the risk when you've mastered it enough to do it in front of people without goggles, plus if a string snaps and you bleed out through your eyeballs at least there's witnesses. Wouldn't want your stiff yellow corpse being found in your bedroom 3 weeks later when your eyes have rotted away and no proof of you playing this solo. People at your funeral (none guitar players) saying 'he died doing what he loved, playing smoke on the water' 😢 such a sad tale.
This sounds oddly specific
So true...
what
I struggle with phrasing, but after I listen to the song a dozen times I get it. I feel it.
Yup. Just broke my high E to this solo.
Rip
Best way to break a string.
That’s how you know you were doing it right
DIO what are you doing? I thought jotaro killed you
Dio!
thanks Carl! this channel made me pick up guitar for the first time in awhile! we appreciate everything you do 💞
I like your guitar lessons becouse you just get right in to the lesson and you dont make things complicated or go to fast you go the speed that I'm comfortable with and you will always be my favorite person for guitar lessons. Keep up with the good work and keep on rocking
Tried to learn this a year ago, not even close. Tried to learn it now. learned it in 10 minutes. The more you play the easier things will be to learn!

Thank you Carl. I tried a tab but just didn't sound right in places. After coming to your channel they sounded right first time through

I can not get this beautiful tone
get a boss gt1 200 dollars and has some SEXYYY tones
Finally, after a year, I am finally able to learn this solo :D!! I'm always so busy and I don't have time to practice, so I'm still very bad at it, but I will get better
got my first ever guitar today, and aside from a short video on what the strings were and tuning it, this was the first thing i learned on it, i got the whole thing down. only thing i have a problem with is the very end and the fast part in the middle.
Awesome Lesson Carl, Thanks!

7 years later, how you doin?
Hey Carl super lesson on the solo and the chords, you really nailed the Brian May tone.

Hello Carl
I am appreciated how much effort you put into your works. I have been following along your videos and they were super helpful.
Can you do I want to break free by queen, please. Or maybe more Chuck Berry.
I hope your channel will get more than 1 million subscribers soon.
Cheers
Dude I got a guitar just so I could learn to play this exact solo, I've had my guitar now for 6 days and decided to tackle this now cus why not. 20 minutes into practicing it from using your video and I've pretty much got it. Still a bit messy on the part where you go down the scale but shouldn't be too long before I get it lol
What about some scales and exercises to help with mastering some of the techniques needed to play some of the songs and solos?
I got a bunch of those on my other channel. Or you can just go to the website and easily find everything you need there. :)
@empian I'm impressed by the lack of specificty in your question because you used "some" three times haha
By the way great video and lesson Carl, thank you!
dude what kinds of pedals/effect did u use ,help please i have to get this damn tone
Tell me please what effects??????????????????????????????????????
Wahyu Panji Setyadi it's probably just simple distortion
Thanks so much it was great
Thank you so much for this one.
There is a request for another queen lesson innuendo please
Tysm
I love this solo
thank you
that was great
For almost 3 years i have been follow this sensei and make my on channel..
Whats your amp/pedal setup I just started playing and I'm curious
Thanks so much...
Thank you buddy
Question instead of pre bending the 18th could I just play the 20th instead?
Hey Carl -- Great lesson as usual..... (talk about being late to the party, huh?).... My question is about the tutorial that Brian May put out way back when, including the sheet music... He shows the solo starting a full step lower on the Ab on D string/6th Fret.... Wondering how it changed to starting a step higher? thanks for all your great help
i’m getting a guitar next friday and this is the first song i’m learning
Really ambitious of you. Hope you get it. You can do it
love the way you say, this needs no introduction
Can anyone help me , how to adjust the amplifier to get that tone please ? I'm a beginner btw
I want to ask something, why doesn't my 18 fret string make a sound when plucked or bent?
How to do the fast part really fast? Cause I can't do it fast. I think my finger placement is wrong that's why i cant do it fast. Can you give some tips?
Awesome man! 6:37
Thanks
muy bueno hermano, gran aporte lml
I was honestly scared when I started out on the guitar and hearing a solo like that, been playing for a few years now and finally came around to watching this video and damn have i improved :l, honestly was one of the easier things you can learn
can u please tell me the pedal used in this solo
I need a bit of help, I have a Gibson Sg and a fender champion 50XL amp and I'm not getting quite the sound I like, it would be much appreciated if someone could help me out, keep up the good work man
I cant do vibrato while in full bending motion ? like how you did in the beginning, ? why not
You're thinking about it too hard, bend the string like normal and do tiny microscopic bends while you hold. Simple as that.
@@mnmf15 please don't say that if you're not Brian May yet
@@mnmf15 dont discourage anyone dude.
@@mnmf15 pathetic
@@mnmf15 one day, I bet every guy who sucks gonna be better than you, you miserable fuck!
At 3:24 I'm a bit confuesd at this part on what he means could someone please help in the comments by leaving a tab for that part or just explain what he means thankyou 😀😀
If you still don't know what he meant, he said that you have to play the same "notes"/pattern like on the high e string for the b string .
Atharva MR Fire that’s where I’m stuck lol but I got it
