  • Meet Ruth, mum of two children with Type 1 Diabetes, and the star of the third Children’s Diabetes Centre film.
    This video looks at the question "what causes Type 1 Diabetes?" given that usually there's no family history of diabetes when children are diagnosed.
    Ruth's story is the third video in a series of educational films which profile the research the Centre is doing to address the questions raised and challenges children and parents face in managing the highs and lows of having children with Type 1 Diabetes.

    The Children's Diabetes Centre, based at the Telethon Kids Institute, is the only paediatric research centre of its kind in Australia and aims to improve the lives of children with Type 1 Diabetes. In WA, about 120 children are diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes every year, and the number is increasing.
    The Centre was established in 2015 by a Centre for Research Excellence (CRE) grant from the National Health and Medical Research Council and JDRF Australia.

    May Allah bless my parents the highest ranking. I was 8 yrs old when i was diagnosed with type1 diabetes with no history of it in the family. My parents managed my diabetes and never let me stay away from home. I was always excellent in my academics and thsi was only possible with my parents intense support. Today after 30 yrs, I am a working mum with three normal children Alhamdullah. I am a highly trained professional and i travel with my kids without anyone’s help internationally. I am highly independent and successful in everything i do. Thanks to my parents to make me push forward to this stage in life.

    There would be a cure they just make too much money off us parents and the kids when they become adults. It's all greed and money.
    God bless this mum, my 4 year old has type 1 and its SO hard with just the one with the type one. She is a strong person and i take my hat off to her from another mum who gets how hard this is.

    Thanks for sharing. I have 2 type 1's as well. My 9 year old daughter was diagnosed when she was 4 and my 11 year old son was diagnosed in April this year. I have found it a lot different with my son as my daughter was so young and she still relies on us so much where my son does literally everything (even carb counts!) on his own.
    Although he took it a LOT harder than my daughter.
    Your kids are adorable 😊

    How can they claim there’s no way to prevent it when they don’t know what causes it?

    My cousin's son was just diagnosed with type 1 - What resources do you suggest for parents to get educated and deal with this new way of life both physically and mentally/emotionally? Thanks for everything you all do and hope this finds you well, take care!

    You researchers can't find any cure can you? All those trillions of dollars spent on research and we have no idea about anything.

      There is a cure they just say no cure, do your own research, cut out all processed foods, Infections can also cause trigger the beta cells, need to find the root cause of type 1 and then teat the cause not the symptoms.

    • @TheYoungBaker
      @TheYoungBaker Před 2 lety

      You can not be born with type 1 diabetes - as far as I know. It is caused by your immune system attacking itself. Your body while fighting a cold -or stressed - makes a mistake and attacks your insulin producing cells.

      No you’re ignorant. That’s TYPE 2. My child never drank juice or soda and was diagnosed. Research and educate yourself

      No! Assuming that juice and soda = type 1 diabetes, actually equals ignorance.
