    Best advice my parents gave my husband and I was to discuss how we wanted to raise our kids BEFORE we had kids. My parents were at opposite ends of how to discipline and that created so much unnecessary chaos as I grew up.

    I feel bad for the mother having to witness her dad dying from diabetes but I can understand why she so afraid that it could happen to Aiden if he's not eating.

      I'd also be petrified that my younger son Liam would also be diagnosed with diabetes as well and that I'd have to fight with both boys to keep them healthy. That wouldn't let me sleep at night.

    I'm a little concerned about Liam; with so much focus on his brother's diabetes. Without more interaction and 1 on 1 time with mom and dad, I'm afraid that Liam might start seeking attention in negative ways.

      And pretty soon artificial pancreas will be available,they were working for some time now on it. So no more needed,pumps etc. Crazy how far it goes with many things, prosthetics, even the spinal cord injuries are not wheelchair for life thing..

      @@boredutopia artificial pancreas are ready. They work now apparently, but they haven't been officially approved yet. But there are diabetics using artificial pancreas today using open source software.

    At least nowadays there’s more tools for testing than the finger pricks. Poor kid. I would have hated that so much at that age.
    I’m cracking up at dad and the kid going back and forth with “no, yes, no, yes” lol

      Yes, I’ve heard that moods affect blood sugar and blood sugar affects moods so his behaviour could be related to his diabetes. But I don’t think that’s a good enough excuse; like he’s 13 and he gets arrested for hitting somebody and he goes, “I can’t help it. It’s because of my diabetes”.

      And it’s worse when the person doesn’t care about their health. There’s a girl in my class who has Type 1 diabetes and doesn’t follow the rules in the most rebellious way. She literally drinks cream soda and eats skittles. She’s kinda my friend because she’s a good person, but doesn’t understand why she can’t eat like everyone else, even when she’s got two kidneys and one is failing.

      nah you get use to it, I don't have that but I get blood tests and iron infixions all the time. it doesn't work anymore, I remember my arm looked like I was just beaten for an hour straight and I hardly even cared.

      My daughter has T1 and has to inject 5 to 8 timesca day. Thankfully her cgm monitors her blood 24/7 and alarms for high and lows so saves 10 finger pricks per day. At the start it was horrible between them both 14 to 18 pokes per day every day

      Once you figure out the best places for finger sticks, it does get easier. I never thought I'd get used to that. I'm so scared of needles. Thankfully, I don't have diabetes. My heart goes out to everyone who lives with it. ❤️

      Well apparently they are doing that because they think that he is the only kid they have #1 and #2 they need to take care of him because he has type 1diabeties hold on did you not know that Aidan has type 1 diabetes

    I really can’t blame the mother. It would make me anxious too if my parent died from diabetes and then my child got it. I think her worries are definitely valid and warranted, but she also needs to know many people survive diabetes, and her son is very young.

      It's no picnic for his siblings, particularly his sister. I'm not saying it's fun for him, but he must learn to face it. I have my own handicap, which, barring miracles, will be lifelong. These things must be faced so you can learn to cope with the problem.

They have to help out with everything. They have to grow up faster even though they aren't sick. I feel for those children.

    My son was diagnosed with T1D when he was 6 (he’s now 32)
    We never used this strict carb routine. He just ate healthy balanced meals and his control was spot on.
    Maybe it’s different in the US.

      Our medical is expensive and once thats paid for, the food we can afford has very little nutritional value and is mostly carbs, sugar, and preservatives.

      With younger kids, you have to be more careful. You also have to be more careful at first. It’s a learning curve so at first, most people are super careful and then later loosen up

    These parents were worn out, just so tired dealing with the health situation their son has. I feel for them. By the end of the video everyone was doing so much better. Bless these parents and all of their children.

    They give such big portions! I never fed my kids like this. I gave them smaller portions and then if they were hungry I gave them more.
