    "Professionals" still use 5DII in Taiwan because they look more "professional" than all the mirrorless cameras and the clients don't have the faintest idea. From a business standpoint, 5DII is the best camera to make a living as a wedding photographer.

    I bought my 5d Mark II back in 2013 used from a local camera shop. Now it's 2020, and I still use this camera as my go to camera. This camera is as good today as it was years ago when it first came out. Btw, $600 is a bargain for such a good professional camera.

    so glad to see this video! I am a full time commercial/promotional photographer out of baltimore maryland and have been using the 5d mkii since it came out for my day to day work. as time went on and amateurs started flexing 30 plus megapixel images I had to make sure I offered higher resolution looks so i also own a pentax 645z and the newer canon 5d mk iv. I have to say that even with owning these other tools, I use the canon 5d mkii for my individual shoots as much as possible. The jpegs come out looking done already and the image quality and overall look is still very very relevant! Great video!

    The important improvement is the ISO range. The 5DIII allows me to work in ridiculously low light condition - a must, when you live in Denmark. My home town is Aarhus, which is some 350 miles closer to the North Pole that, say, Calgary in Canada! So we have low light 280 days every year, even at noon. But if you are a light buff with an excellent flash or LED panel, the 5DII is an absolute gem, a jewel and a camera to be revered. And for $600 it's a gift.

    • @billcame6991
      @billcame6991 Před 5 lety

      I have the MkIV and its high ISO is superior to the MkII's. I'd still like my non-functioning MkII repaired.

    • @avetl
      @avetl Před 5 lety

      5dm2 it's a camera for a budget location photo with some additional light and studio photography. A can't believe in serious retouch of photos taken on ISO> 800 even if this photo taken on 1dx. In logic "Higher ISO is Higher quality" all Hassleblads and Phase One cameras are piece of shit - they can't shoot on ISO 1600 or 3200! Tragedy!
      Even old 1dm2s are still very good cameras in hands of professionals. Care about your skills and ideas, not gear. High ISO it's a Holy Grail only for some live photographers, but even here we can ask - how Bresson made his legendary live shots on average ~400 iso?

    Best video ever! Best decision I ever made! The one I bought had less than 10K shutter count and in top cosmetic condition as well. Learnt a lot on this full frame camera and feel confident. I used to work out things from the manual but I learnt more from '5D Mark II, The Expanded Guide' by Andy Sansfield. Brilliant book that I downloaded from Amazon. Like you say, this camera has everything covered except the bells and whistles which are not crucial. I take all my product photos on this beast and couldn't he happier. You can save money and get some good lenses. I picked up some awesome old L lenses for a bargain too. I highly recommend the 24-105mm original L that came with the 5D Mark II. Great lens even today.

  • @godofhope

    I really appreciate this video. Too many people are worried about bells and whistles. Have them shoot on an old RB or Bronica medium format with manual power lights and a light meter. Photography has lost its "craft" and people rely on the cameras decisions far too often.

    5DIII was positioned as a great wedding photography camera with silent shutter, dual memory card slots, improved iso sensitivity and better low light autofocus. As so it dominated the market as the go to wedding camera. I’d also argue that the features mentioned above including other like in camera dual exposure and improved video quality most certainly helped photographers creatively.

The 5Dii 21MP image resolution at 100 ISO looks as good as I get from my 24MP Nikon D3X. (The D3X is only good at low ISO.) Speaking as a keen amateur, after many years of upgrading and changing I realised I don't NEED any more than a 5d mark ii - I know my way around it because I have spent a lot of time learning it's capabilities. If I get it right then this camera paired with a decent lens can produce fantastic images . If I want to get creative with my RAW files then I can use my software. I have a 6D (bought 2014) and 5D2 (bought 2011) and use them since years in tandem when traveling. The only gripe about the 5D2 I have is the missing auto ISO in M mode. On the 6D I very often set shutter speed and aperture and ISO is set to auto. This is perfect for creative control. On the 5D2 I can only set ss OR aperture and leave the other one on auto. When setting e.g. the aperture to f2.0 the ss on auto is often too long and the image gets blurred. Recently I shot my 24mm prime. I set it to f2.8 and the camera chose 1/30 second shutter speed... Most images were blurred due to camera shake.
    Apart from that the 5D2 is indeed the best full frame entry level today. It's even in 2019 a very capable camera if you shoot stills and non-action.

    I still have my 5D Mark II, I was able to use it to pay itself off over 4 times the amount I paid for it £500 mint condition. I have just sold it and bought a 6D Mark II, as much as I like the 6D Mark II, the 5D Mark II is still an amazing camera. The 5D Mark IV is an amazing camera, but I couldn't agree with such a large price difference, and as much as I find the 5D Mark III a great camera, having used it, I preferred my own Mark II, would never justify an upgrade to a Mark III.
    However, the Mark II was my first ever camera, and I will never forget how much fun I had with it, even now it is still more than competent for a beginner or even a professional alike to use.

      If you use the 6D (i or ii) professionally then the downfall is the life of the shutter. Everyone I've known using the 6D professionally, including myself, had the shutter die off in 3-4 years, (under 120K shutter actuations) which then ran them $350 or so to fix, where most others with 5D mk2's and 3's are running strong at 400K actuations. I wish that wasn't the case because I love the 6D's.

The AF system on the 1 series bodies will eat the 5D II alive. It all depends on what you want to do with the camera as a user. For me personally, I couldn't care less for video. I've used it three times in 10 years with my 60D and wouldn't miss it if I didn't have it to be entirely and brutally honest.

    Back in day when I was a professional photographer's assistant in television production.
    The photographer was using Pro grade cameras Nikon F3 and FE as a back up along with a medium format camera.
    He didn't buy the latest all sing all dancing camera, he used to ones he already has. Why because when you have equipment that you know you don't have to think about it but shoot pictures.
    The majority of the shots were keepers even though we shot around ten rolls of 35mm and around the same for medium format.
    I am in the market for a new camera, I was thinking about a 7D mk2 but a 5D mark2 sounds even better with that large sensor plus amazing potential bokeh!

    I own 5DII for over 6 years now. It's great camera in terms of image quality and has solid build quality and controls. The AF system however is very poor, especially when you use fast prime lenses in different lighting conditions, very random, you have to expect lots of your photos might be out of focus. It also doesn't have Dual Pixel AF i live view mode, and the contrast detection focusing is simply unusable. Today even cheap mirroless cameras with it phase and contrast detection AF system combined offer much more bettere performance.

    I bought a Canon 5D Mark ii about a month ago for A$885 in Australia second hand on ebay. Only 9K shutter count so I thought was a good buy, but may be I overpaid.
    Yes this is the cheapest way into a pro quality full frame no doubt and I am generally happy with it. I already have a crop sensor canon 7D ii second hand also.
    Sometimes it is better to take the resale value down the track into account as well in buying any camera. Generally in a few years time, any decent camera should be worth at least half the money you paid for it. So when you take this into account it is a question of how much outlay you are prepared to make today in the knowledge that you will get 50% of it back down the track. Not good to be driven to desperation and just buy the cheapest decent thing going, instead of aiming for that better and later catch, as you will get better resale value that you can put towards your next upgrade.
