It is a word deriving from a pre-Columbian language, and comes via Portuguese, not Spanish, so no excuses for “Jag-wah” because it is more like the Spanish word as it is pronounced today. Earliest mentions in English are from the early 1600s, so the word has had plenty of time to be assimilated into English. Look up the pronunciation on Google and it is “Jag-you-er”. This accords with information from Oxford Dictionaries. “Jag-wah” is entirely wrong.

"US cars never caught on anywhere else" is such a dumb statement because it's patently untrue and just ignores how many "European" brands are actually American, like Vauxhall and Opel, and how culturally significant American cars were all over the world for most of automotive history. The post gas-crisis malaise years of American automaking are what you're thinking of, and they led to the end of underpowered American land-boats everywhere, including in the US

    • @Minderz
      @Minderz Před 5 měsíci +5

@@dapeach06 I don't think they're speaking of owners but rather the history and skill when talking about European vs American cars. If a company has built cars for 100 years in the UK, the staff is primarily British and the designers are from Europe. It's a European car even if some company on another continent owns it.
And even the "US" cars that do sell well outside of the US are mostly not actually designed in the US. Most Fords that sell well outside of the US are based on frames designed in Europe.
That being said. There's no denying the classics. There's an almost endless list of classic american cars that people recognize and love. Most people just don't wanna drive them in their daily life.

The rest of the English speaking world pronounces it "jag u are" because that follows the rules of English pronunciation (check the oxford English dictionary - phonetics).
The American pronunciation "jag warre" is unique to the USA and maybe parts of Canada and doesn't seem to follow any understandable rule of gramma or phonetics.
Americans often use unique pronunciations of words that make no grammatical sense or follow any linguistical rule of phonetics but because it's what they are used to (and they are American 😄) they always insist they are right!
The car was of course named after the big cat (Jaguar) which was being identified, classified and pronounced correctly before America was... well America!
The word 'jaguar' comes from the indigenous word 'yaguar', which means 'he who kills with one leap'.
So... Um... That's why the British along with most of the rest of the world pronounce it as it is spelt - correctly!

Fun fact the reason your surposed to drive on the right side is 90% of the world are right handed, thats why in england you drive left side of the road on so your strong hand controls the wheel and your weak hand on the gear. You got to think americans drive with there weaker hand. It also goes back to the time of jousting where they had to have there weapon on there strong side.

Out of the 3 sportscars, the ferrari and the mercedes are touringcars, the GT3 is a thoroughbred roadlegal trackmonster.
The "GT3" nameplate was introduced in 1999 as part of the first generation of the Porsche 996 model range (commonly known as 996.1) as a homologation model for the cars entered in the FIA GT3 cup. As with Porsche's previous 911 RS models, the 996 GT3 was focused on racing, and so was devoid of items that added unnecessary weight to the car. Sound deadening was almost completely removed, as were the rear seats, rear loud speakers, sunroof, and air conditioning, although automatic air conditioning and CD/radio became no-cost optional add-ons. In 2003, Porsche introduced the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, an even more track-focused version of the 996 GT3. RS is short for the German RennSport, literally "racing sport" in English. They are road legal but there is no luxery in this car, anything to drop weight and increase performance.

Infact even millions in some cases. Its not to show how big your wallet is. A singer for example (which is a modified classic Porsche will cost you over a million USD nowadays. But absolutely no one will know what it is unless they're petrolheads.
Obviously some cars are notoriously owned by people that wanna show off, but there is a reason why people wanna spend so much money on a car and its not just to brag.

The Mercator projection, the most popular world map, distorts the size of the shape of landmasses near the pole. This results in Russia looking bigger than Africa. Actually Africa can nearly fit two Russias. In fact, Africa has an area of 11.73 million square miles while Russian one is only 6.6 million square miles.

HORSE POWER is calculated by multiplying the amount of force (in pounds) by the speed ( in feet per second).
Which " British" accent do you mean !? English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish !? Or do you mean one of the many regional accents of each UK country !?
JAGUAR. Look how it's spelled! JAG U AR !! America is the only country to say JAG WAR !!
The big cat is called a JAG U AR as well !!

Being British alot of Southerners as in Americans like us or at least that's been my experience as they think we supported them in the civil war, which we didn't but try telling them that, but Alabama is a state I've been to quite a lot and I'll be honest. I don't mind it, so long as you're not a democrat which I'm not or have a go at country and western music which I hate but just pretend to like.
