Nirvana never considered themselves a "grunge" band but just straight up punk
cause grunge is punk "style". everyone even nirvana members absolutely forgot about word grunge and call themselves punks only
This is so much more interesting than the ramones or the sex pistols though. Noth that they dont have their places but nitvnas music is notnearly as democratising and accessible to basic musicians as the early punk. One may even say that soime nirvna songs are more musically inricate than most Eagles songs just not in your face about it.

"Beat me outta me" to me is basically a natural function of maintaining any relationship where your natural original self is continually beaten to shit trying to reach some fucking homeostatsis where (best case) you and your partner have neutralized eachother and are left battered but more compatible or (common case) one partner has dominated the other after much struggle to act like they want you to act at which point they probably with get bored of ya.

no...this is punk rock. gruunge was more about Pearl jam and Soundgarten etc
Grunge is a made up sub-genre of punk, if you were to ask the bands back in the days they would say that they are punk,
I always thought that Nirvana was more punk that any other label like "grunge" or stuff like that. Maybe a bit more alternative-kind of noisy in In Utero, but still.
I think Nirvana was really hardcore actually. The melvins too. But what is a label? I feel like Nirvana hitting the mainstream was a justification for all the music i loved, mainly hardcore punk. And i definitely think hardcore more than punk was the biggest influence on all the Seattle area bands, and other places too

the guitar on this song sounds so furious and badass like "dont mess with me or ill get your ass kicked" the thematic of the lyrics can be assume in so many ways depends on the listener a guess, but for me im prettt sure it is about heroin and theres nothing wrong with that, its just a song and a great song by the way.

Man it sucks that Courtney killed this dude so she could get sales for her debut album which came out 4 days after he was killed which nobody ever talks about and which she so conviently called "live through this" which nobody ever talks about. And by the way, Why does a heroin addict shoot himself rather than deliberately OD? Oh but there was a lethal amount of heroin in his bloodstream, but somebody got scared that he had a tolerance to it and changed their mind and decided to wipe prints.
