CHANGING The Spark Plugs On Sebastian Vettel's Infiniti FX50S

  • Today I'm working on cool cars for random friends that all showed up at once! Omar brought over his BMW M3 E46 to plug a tire that the tire store wouldn't plug. Then Scott brought over his Infiniti FX50S super SUV (the same model Sebastian Vettel drove) to change the spark plugs on the 5.0L V8. Changing the plugs on the Infiniti isn't hard but you're going to need a tools and you're going to need time (a lot of it). Taking the engine cover is off is a huge pain (two 12MM bolts in the front under the cover and two 10MM bolts on the back of the cover). Once it's off you're home free but a lot of hoses and lines will need to move around for access.

What motorcycle do I ride? A few. Ducati 1198, Honda Fury, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus
What do I do for a living? Make CZcams videos and work in enterprise data storage.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
Where can I keep up with you off the bike?

Do you go to school? College, for 2 classes.
Why do you ride so dangerously? What do mean? I was doing 25.
Do you go to the track? Of course, hopefully there will be videos in the future.
Do you play video games? No, but I might stream N64 Goldeneye at some point. Twitch: WatchJRGo
Are you afraid the police will watch your videos and arrest you? Something something evidence something something warrants and due process of law

  • @jgizzy
    @jgizzy Před 5 lety +4

If the puncture is in center tread, less than 1/4" thick (nail, screw, etc), and at less than a 45* angle puncture -- then the only reason they wouldn't repair it due to liability is for a simple reason: any puncture-repaired tire losing its 'speed rating' so any fast car may later on get up to 150+mph and have that tire explode due to the puncture infiltrating the steel/nylon reinforcement of the tire construction itself. There is a lot of liability involved, potentially, which is why some places just refuse to repair a tire.
EDIT: OKAY I saw the area of the puncture: that is NOT CENTER TREAD!!!! That is outside the tread belt area. That is always considered a non-repairable area according to tire industry standards. And that refusal to repair is precluded by the assumption that a PROPER tire plug is being installed. Your tire plug is not proper, it is ghetto as hell - external plugs are from the past, no longer used by tire professionals. You want a patch-plug combo of either 1/8" or 1/4" (max size) which is only done internally by removing the tire itself. Your fix is subpar and dangerous with a high speed performance car.

That looked annoying but fairly straightforward. Nothing could be as bad as spark plugs on my old 4th gen Camaro with the LS1. Things were going pretty smooth until I hit #8, that's the one that's up under the cowl on the passenger side. Well there is like a 2" gap between the cylinder head and the plastic intake part that houses the blower motor and hvac stuff. Took me over an hour to change that one plug, my tool had like 2 or 3 swivel joints in it to get it to reach down in there, had to go to the parts store to buy another swivel piece.

He ordered/purchased it in Utah and was able to option the 3.8L in it which was not normally an option but was in Utah/Colorado due to the mountains. ANYWAY the plugs on the back were so close to the firewall you had to unbolt the mounts and Jack the engine way forward. Almost into the radiator. This made changing the plugs a horrible horrible job. I swore I would never do it again.

I freaking love Infiniti ! Imagine if Lexus made a RX460 or some RX competitor with a v8, that’d be sick!

Itd have to be on a RWD platform first. But a RWD RX with the RCF engine would be pretty damn cool.

Yes base it off the 467hp Lexus GSF just how the FX is based off Infiniti's V8 performance sedan. The Lexus Sportcross was pretty cool with its 2JZ.

Cool video! FYI, I never play keyboard warrior or armchair quarterback unless I'm absolutely sure. So, that tire plug will work great....temporarily. 2-4 months in dry weather. As soon as possible, a new tire will be needed for safety. Those plugs are great for emergencies, but be prepared to replace the tire asap. Those plugs cause serious damage to the cords and rubber. You can google it or search here on YT for videos of the aftermath of long term use of plugs. Sorry to be debbie downer, but, it just needs to be said.
