In honor of Pride Month, I will be posting Glee videos regarding the LGBTQ+ community, since it’s one of the few things they did decently. Happy Pride month everyone!! The only month that really matters. 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
Happy Pride month! And you just totally took the words out of my mouth: Glee was incredibly flawed, sometimes terrible. But you could count on one thing, and that was that it did the LGB community justice. Not so sure about the TQ+ part. I seem to recall that some things on Glee were problematic regarding the trans community, but as a cisperson, I don't have any kind of authority to speak on their behalf.
Burt is one of my favorite characters ever because he is presented at first as the stereotypical masculine dad who wants his son to play football and wouldnt want him to be gay but then when Kurt comes out he accepts him for who he is and loves him. Also love when Burt does the single ladies scene it's one of my favorite Burt moments.
Seriously! I love what they did with his character! He was realistic and reminded me of my parents. He might not always understand, but he always does what he can to care for his son and learn. He shows the difference between perfectly understanding and BEING understanding, having the desire to learn and continuously love his son unconditionally ❤️
My fav Burt moment was when he was trying to explain to Kurt that he should wait for sex... It was so beautiful that he treated it as something special, as apposed to most men who have the sex talk with their son & it consists of "quick, go get laid" lol

He started off knowing he was gay but probably not wanting to admit it, then Kurt came out to him and he admitted he wasn’t thrilled about it, but that Kurt is doing nothing wrong and it’s his own job to work through his feelings about it (which freaking PROPS to him because that’s such a hard thing for some people to do, put their own feelings about something aside and work to grow out of their comfort zone and unlearn their opinions for the sake of someone they love), to being his biggest fan and protector, even against Finn who was like another son to him and the kid of the woman he loved. And then he never went backwards once. It’s not like the show gave him all this development just to turn him around and be crappy at some point. I adore Burt so much
The only thing I really hated about glee was the biphobia... I'm bisexual myself, and they never did Brittany any good with her bisexuality OR had her say "I'm bisexual" it just sucks...
Take out the B for a second. Ryan Murphy was basically biphobic. Kurt basically said a bisexual is just a gay who gest back in the closet, and Santana said that she finally has a girlfriend she doesn't worry about straying for penis. Like, that's pretty biphobic and Brittany was never explicitly bisexual. They looked to scared to actually write a bisexual character, remaining stuck to stereotypes of bisexual being promiscuous and unfaithful

I know you're not the biggest Kurt and Blaine fan, but I do think that Blaine publicly dancing with Kurt at the prom was a nice moment especially after he had just been humiliated. Also I wish they had focused more on Brittany's sexuality. The writers made such a big deal about Santana being a lesbian but I also think they should have had Brittany talk about how she felt about it. Seems like Brittany wasn't as bothered about it as Santana but she should have been given a chance to discuss her feelings. In the early seasons, Brittany was portrayed as kinda loose and slept around but even if she was bisexual or just happened to like fooling around with Santana, they could have given her something to say about it. Heck even if she just said "I'm okay with people knowing I like girls, but I know you're not there yet" the writers could have done so much more.

Well he wasn't expecting it. And he also said later that it was the first time he had ever been kissed. You don't really want your first kiss to be with the guy who bullies you.
The moment Karofsky kissed him was the moment where he became a true predator for Kurt. This kiss was forced on Kurt, it was extremely aggressive, and from that moment on Karofsky would insult Kurt AND throw him suggestive/leering glances. So of course Kurt was terrified. His bully just forcefully kissed him and showed interest in him. This is the most terrifying kind of bully you can ever meet.
i think the scene at the cafe where blaine talk to kurt about thinking hes bi is so important. as a bi woman i have experienced so much biphobia from within the community and this scene is just so special to me
Imo Kurt coming out to his dad was more important because his dad supported him straight away without hesitation whereas Santana’s grandmother disowned her.

@@ShannanMV I see where you're coming from, but I agree that Santana coming out to her grandmother is more important. People are constantly disowned by their family due to their sexuality, and it needs to shown more often. No one is going to have a perfect or supporting family, and it should be shown in the media. I do understand what you mean by promoting support, but you can't ignore that it isn't always like that. Both should be equally important, but I do believe in this case, Santana coming out to her should be the first.

The way Kurt chokes slightly on the word gay when he comes out to Mercedes.... it still gives me chills 🥺 I feel like the first time every queer person comes out they say it this exact way. I know I did the first time I came out as bi. Glee may have been unhinged, but they also got some scenes perfect.
As much as I know trans representation is incredibly important, I feel like the beiste storyline undermined everything the character had represented up until that point. Cis straight masculine women exist too and are extremely valid.
To me it’s not a great moment just because it was supposed to demonstrate how Finn wasn’t homophobic and would stand up to homophobic bullies, yet he refused to stand up for Kurt in season 2 and displayed his homophobia when he outed santana.
I love Burt so much, every parent should be this supportive of their kid, no matter if they are part of the LGBTQ+ community or not. He is one hell of an amazing father
I feel like the scene with Kurt being elected prom queen should have been in there because it has the infamous Kurt Hummel line "It doesn't matter rather they are pushing me, or whispering behind my back, they can't touch me! They can't touch us, or what we have!"
Santana and Brittany were so disrespected it still pisses me off. They had a lot more romantic scenes with blaine and kurt and even they didn't have a crazy amount. And the last episode was the worst imo. We got a 10 second flash of britt & santana while the whole episode was about kurt Blaine and rachel.
wait excuse me what? I’m not at that point yet but wtf? They barely showed us anything of two of the characters who practically carried most of the show in the finale?
ik i'm late to this, but people say that it was because of the network at the time. But why did Kurt and Blaine get way more than they did? they were legit the reason i watched the show 😔
I have to thank you for making this video. As a 15 year old pansexual, this show has made me realize so much that who I am is OK more than anything else and gave me the courage to come out to some members of my family I was previously afraid of coming out to. Glee may have been a mess at times, but I have to agree with you that it did do pretty good with representation for LGBTQ+ people all over the world. My favorite moment on this list has to be when all the girls stood up for Santana in season three, definitely. One of the many moments on Glee that made me cry because it was just so damn well done. Oh, and definitely Kurt coming out as well; that was such a moving scene.

@@S6nkissed as nice as it is to be able to be yourself, i wouldn’t come out to your parents until it’s safe for you to do so. if they say they’re supportive but then turn around and use slurs, i would have to say they aren’t supportive. coming out could create an unsafe environment for you and I’d hate for that to happen.
i love Mercedes' reaction to Kurt coming out. You see, she's a religious girl, and she's still kinds hurt after being rejected for him, but her friendship comes first, and her support was priceless
i love santana and brits engagement because it finally means that santana is ready for he world to see her as she wants to be, and she shows her softer side
I know season 6 was a flop but that trans choir was emotional. As a transguy who had recently accepted himself and came out seeing that was just a lot and it was the first episode I ever cried at
I love Glee, but as a gay man, I can admit that they definitely messed up their LGBTQ storylines. Firstly, the glaringly obvious biphobia. When Brittany rebounded with Sam, Santana reacts poorly even though she's the one who dumped Brittany, and then she had the gall to get pissed that Brittany went back to dating men, which is a callback to her getting pissed that Brittany wouldn't dump Artie for her in season 2. Not to mention Kurt's stupid comments about bisexuality not existing. Sexuality is a spectrum, not an either or situation. Blaine and Kurt getting engaged after getting back together, after being apart for months. Blaine and Kurt getting married after being apart for months. Kurt pressuring Blaine into situations that make him uncomfortable like the Prom in season 2. Kurt getting pissed at Blaine for being the Alpha Gay. Beiste's trans storyline coming out of nowhere. It could have been good had they built it up, but they spent Beiste's earlier storylines talking about she just wanted to feel beautiful and loved by a man in spite of her looks. For me though, the worst offense was not capitalizing on the natural chemistry between Darren Criss and Grant Gustin. When you have two straight actors pulling off that kind of chemistry, you work it, but Glee was still in that whole third season Rachel/Finn-Kurt/Blaine black hole where there was no real relationship drama.
I loved that scene, but my only objection is here's two ( I feel they are beautiful) lesbian actresses of a certain age & yet, during the course of this show they are never portrayed as lesbians. Instead one plays straight & the other straight, then trans. But the two traditionally beautiful straight girls got to play lesbian.. that always bothered me... I understand they wanted to tell a trans story, but that was Unique's story. I just always wondered how Dot Marie Jones felt when they told her she'd be doing a trans story & I hoped it didn't hurt her feelings, the implication that she's 'manly' enough to pull off the story. Butch lesbians go throw a pain that lipstick lesbians will never know.
even with all the problematic things glee is such a good coming of age show tackling all hard subjects and encouraging young people to accept themselves and it played a huge role in my teen years and it doesn't get enough credit for that
Glee did some really groundbreaking things but they also did horrible things that helped spread toxicity (Kurt telling Blaine he can’t be bi, finn being praised for outing Santana)
❤🧡💛💚💙💜 I love the representation in Glee. I do think more could have been done around other sexualities but I still adore it. And the fact that trans people were included means so much to me ❤🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈
Fun fact that isn’t fun, a couple days ago I got my first suit ever (for prom) and I was in my room listening to music and when I started trying on the suit cough syrup came on and I was distracted and I just sang but not even 10 seconds in I remembered the glee scene and as someone who has attempted I started crying and I just continued putting in my suit why this song blasted but by the end it turned in to a happy type of crying because I though of how far I’ve come and that karofsky survived (even tho he’s fictional)
santana´s scene with her abuelita always gets me :( I´m bi and haven´t come out yet and idk why I feel my family would react like that, makes me cry...
@Lily Edwards Also underaged drinking, drugs, bullying, offensive content and grown adults creeping on minors. Just not a family friendly show all around.
My daughter is 16 and we watched Glee together and talked about the content and she would ask questions and I would always give her honest answers and as a teen she has such an adult attitude but she's loving, level headed, Respectful, kind and accepting I'm proud of who she's becoming and I'm glad for honest shows like this that express so many variables we still watch glee together and we still laugh and cry with it and we will always love Kurt.
I first started watching glee when I was 8 with my mum, I've got to say most of the adult stuff went over my head, I also didn't really see the characters as lgbtq but just who they were as people. Like I never questioned it even tho Glee was probably the first time I was exposed to people who were lgbtq. I just didn't think anything about it, just like I wouldn't think anything about a straight person being straight. I can also say I thought the same thing about race. Society is the cause of discrimination.
Glee was like half the reason I came out nearly two years ago. I may not be the biggest fan of the show, especially considering the amount of biphobia (and especially because I eventually came out as bi), but it was a life-changing experience to watch Santana and Brittany be in love the way I want to be in love.

also Kurt and Blaine at prom, when Blaine thought he might be bi, Blaine talking to Kurt about getting beat up at his Sadie Hawkins and I think they should've focused of Brittanys sexuality as well as they never clearly had her say that she was bisexual. and I think we can all agree that Burt is one of most supporting characters on the whole show

and i loved how they didn’t correct him when he called them lesbians. i guess it would be fine if they said “no I’m straight” but since they didn’t clear it up it really brings home the point that it doesn’t matter if the rest of the girls were lesbian or not, because santana (and all gay ppl) didnt deserve to be harassed because of her sexuality
People forget Glee was made in 2009 not 2021, it made a great impact on society, this series was focused on problems that teens face it and having so many LGBT actors and LGBT characters was a huge step at that time, Glee could've failed but it got super famous and put a light on people who didn't have representation at that time, Glee deserves all the praise, it helped so many LGBT people and even straight to accept who they're and their flaws

I was so proud of her I started to bawl... Their whole lives she had never gotten it. But when the chips were down, she finally did.... As much as I know trans representation is incredibly important, I feel like the beiste storyline undermined everything the character had represented up until that point. Cis straight masculine women exist too and are extremely valid.
I think when Finn puts on the shower curtain dress and fights the football team should’ve been on here somewhere.
To me it’s not a great moment just because it was supposed to demonstrate how Finn wasn’t homophobic and would stand up to homophobic bullies, yet he refused to stand up for Kurt in season 2 and displayed his homophobia when he outed santana.

I have to thank you for making this video. As a 15 year old pansexual, this show has made me realize so much that who I am is OK more than anything else and gave me the courage to come out to some members of my family I was previously afraid of coming out to. Glee may have been a mess at times, but I have to agree with you that it did do pretty good with representation for LGBTQ+ people all over the world. My favorite moment on this list has to be when all the girls stood up for Santana in season three, definitely. One of the many moments on Glee that made me cry because it was just so damn well done. Oh, and definitely Kurt coming out as well; that was such a moving scene.

@@S6nkissed as nice as it is to be able to be yourself, i wouldn’t come out to your parents until it’s safe for you to do so. if they say they’re supportive but then turn around and use slurs, i would have to say they aren’t supportive. coming out could create an unsafe environment for you and I’d hate for that to happen.

I know season 6 was a flop but that trans choir was emotional. As a transguy who had recently accepted himself and came out seeing that was just a lot and it was the first episode I ever cried at
I love Glee, but as a gay man, I can admit that they definitely messed up their LGBTQ storylines. Firstly, the glaringly obvious biphobia. When Brittany rebounded with Sam, Santana reacts poorly even though she's the one who dumped Brittany, and then she had the gall to get pissed that Brittany went back to dating men, which is a callback to her getting pissed that Brittany wouldn't dump Artie for her in season 2. Not to mention Kurt's stupid comments about bisexuality not existing. Sexuality is a spectrum, not an either or situation. Blaine and Kurt getting engaged after getting back together, after being apart for months. Blaine and Kurt getting married after being apart for months. Kurt pressuring Blaine into situations that make him uncomfortable like the Prom in season 2. Kurt getting pissed at Blaine for being the Alpha Gay. Beiste's trans storyline coming out of nowhere. It could have been good had they built it up, but they spent Beiste's earlier storylines talking about she just wanted to feel beautiful and loved by a man in spite of her looks. For me though, the worst offense was not capitalizing on the natural chemistry between Darren Criss and Grant Gustin. When you have two straight actors pulling off that kind of chemistry, you work it, but Glee was still in that whole third season Rachel/Finn-Kurt/Blaine black hole where there was no real relationship drama.

I loved that scene, but my only objection is here's two ( I feel they are beautiful) lesbian actresses of a certain age & yet, during the course of this show they are never portrayed as lesbians. Instead one plays straight & the other straight, then trans. But the two traditionally beautiful straight girls got to play lesbian.. that always bothered me... I understand they wanted to tell a trans story, but that was Unique's story. I just always wondered how Dot Marie Jones felt when they told her she'd be doing a trans story & I hoped it didn't hurt her feelings, the implication that she's 'manly' enough to pull off the story. Butch lesbians go throw a pain that lipstick lesbians will never know.

even with all the problematic things glee is such a good coming of age show tackling all hard subjects and encouraging young people to accept themselves and it played a huge role in my teen years and it doesn't get enough credit for that
I loved the slow dance but as a afab gay Brittana was the best. Especially the journey Santana had in accepting her sexuality.

Fun fact that isn’t fun, a couple days ago I got my first suit ever (for prom) and I was in my room listening to music and when I started trying on the suit cough syrup came on and I was distracted and I just sang but not even 10 seconds in I remembered the glee scene and as someone who has attempted I started crying and I just continued putting in my suit why this song blasted but by the end it turned in to a happy type of crying because I though of how far I’ve come and that karofsky survived (even tho he’s fictional)

My daughter is 16 and we watched Glee together and talked about the content and she would ask questions and I would always give her honest answers and as a teen she has such an adult attitude but she's loving, level headed, Respectful, kind and accepting I'm proud of who she's becoming and I'm glad for honest shows like this that express so many variables we still watch glee together and we still laugh and cry with it and we will always love Kurt.
I first started watching glee when I was 8 with my mum, I've got to say most of the adult stuff went over my head, I also didn't really see the characters as lgbtq but just who they were as people. Like I never questioned it even tho Glee was probably the first time I was exposed to people who were lgbtq. I just didn't think anything about it, just like I wouldn't think anything about a straight person being straight. I can also say I thought the same thing about race. Society is the cause of discrimination.
That's stupid. The people who say that, are the same people who ask their 5 year old kids if they have a girlfriend or boyfriend.

Glee was like half the reason I came out nearly two years ago. I may not be the biggest fan of the show, especially considering the amount of biphobia (and especially because I eventually came out as bi), but it was a life-changing experience to watch Santana and Brittany be in love the way I want to be in love.

People forget Glee was made in 2009 not 2021, it made a great impact on society, this series was focused on problems that teens face it and having so many LGBT actors and LGBT characters was a huge step at that time, Glee could've failed but it got super famous and put a light on people who didn't have representation at that time, Glee deserves all the praise, it helped so many LGBT people and even straight to accept who they're and their flaws
