The "gold dust" was referring to cocaine and Stevie said that when she wrote it was her "symbolic look at somebody going through a bad relationship, doing a lot of drugs, and trying to make it. Trying to live. Trying to get through it.". The woman is just phenomenal!
Stevie didn’t much coke her nose could no longer sniff it, so she’s had her assistants boof it up her ass. True story.
In other words most likely her own bad breakup from lindsay buckingham.
@@HappyOne3 and her own use of a lot of cocaine.
@@X1xoneshe did so much she needed her assistants to boof it for her because her nose couldn’t handle it.
Yes. About her own addiction. She added it to an instrumental Lindsay had been working on. In the studio, Stevie is playing guitar also.
Lindsay Buckingham is probably the most underrated guitar player of all time. He's insanely talented.
Try FM's original guitarist, & lead singer, Peter Green!
Lindsay Buckingham is a mere amateur by comparison!! 🤣
And he doesn't use a pick!
@@jamespasifull It's not even fair to compare Lindsey and Peter. While Peter Green is one of my biggest guitar influences, I've still got a ton of respect for Lindsey. He is a fantastic songwriter - even in the moments he didn't feel like "helping" Stevie write a hit song. Very prolific to say the least.
@@Mister_Samsonite
It's just that the vast majority of FM 'fans' don't even know that they started as a blues band, led by a guy called Peter Green!
They only hear what the want to hear, and refuse to believe the truth when they're told different.
I don't mind the later FM, but I DO mind being dismissed as a crank who's spouting bs!!
@@jamespasifull With all due respect, I wish more people would acknowledge and discover the Peter Green era of FM. I believe they were THE best British blues band of the late 60's, and Green was an unsung hero of the era. I wasn't being rude, just pointing out an apples to oranges comparison. No offense was intended.
Fleetwood mac and the Eagles are two bands nobody will ever compare to. They ruled the 70s and 80s
And they havent even done 1 Eagles review...............
@@Pete391 the Eagles will have CZcams stick you with copyright infringement.
Absolutely, But The Doobie Brothers Ruled , And Rocked Out Back Then As Well . . . :-)
Mostly the 70s THOUGH like this song
@@Pete391 Long ago they did a reaction to "Hotel California" it was their first video to hit 1M but they had to remove it for copyright reasons. They reacted to it their first year and has long been removed.
The glorious album that is "Rumours". The talent, the angst, the deceit, the depression, the anguish, the despondency, the heartache and even the love led to this tremendous work of art. Thanks Stevie, Lindsy, John, Mick, and Christine. Not to mention the efforts of Richard Dashut and Ken Caillet on the production and engineering side. Truly an album for the ages.
The production side was also Fleetwood Mac who as a group are listed as Producer on all their albums. Calliat and Dashut contributions were mainly as Engineers, As was Olsen on the White Album. By this point Buckingham was 90%+ of the FM as producers though it took until Mirage - an album he didn't want to produce (which is why probably why Mick finally gave him the credit) to also get his deserved solo credit. By Tango he was also engineering.
@@caps689 I agree, I read the book on how they made the album with Lindsey pretty much having say so on the direction of the music.
Il add that it sounds unlike Almost all other albums sharp is an understatement to say the least😊
timeless masterpiece.
It’s time for listening to Tusk featuring the USC Marching Band 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
💯 AGREE! 🥁🎺🥁🎺
I'm thinking it has to be the only Top 10 hit to feature a marching band.
@@ChrisW-17 Exactly, that’s my same thinking. Thanks 🙏
The Dance version is the best
Yes! I hope Jay and Amber add Tusk to their reaction list. Quite a FM departure.
The Dance
SC marching band!!
Yes!!!
Closing track off of one of the best albums ever
Amen😊
Agreed! Rumours is in my top 5 albums of all-time!
in the top 10
Closing the album with this would just leave me in the dark after the record was over, breathing & thinking “…wow”
FACTS!
You found an absolute banger. But in fairness every song on the Rumours album is a banger. The album is only 33 minutes long but every minute is class
Yes indeed!!
Quality beats quantity!
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "You Make Loving Fun" !!! (Christine on lead)
Yes a great tune
Agree 💯!
Yes! I love Stevie too, but Fleetwood Mac is much more than her back up band
Loved Christine's lyrics. Stevie's lyrics could be somewhat abstract, but she connected. Christine was a realist lyrically.
And Christine had a much better voice than Stevie and wasn’t an attention diva that Stevie was.
The howling at the end of the song is Lyndsey. He said..”yeah..we were in distress”
Seriously? Wow, I never knew that, thanks!!
No. It’s Stevie. Almost sounds like whale song. I saw them perform this song at Madison Square Garden way back then, and she made those sounds into a mic set back by the drum kit. Everyone freaked out a little bit when she did that. It was a bit scary.
@@blemelin Sounds like Lindsey to me too. Maybe Stevie replicated this in concert but at least some of that is definitely him on the record.
There are several versions pressed by different engineers (an alternate by the legendary Robert Ludwig is very much discussed) and they all have different intros and outros. This version definitely has Lindsey howling but you can also hear some wailing from Stevie. Other versions have electronic sounds and some have a spoken intro countdown. So not one answer, but many! It all depends on which pressing you’re listening to.
This topic is gone into great detail on the Steve Hoffman audiophile forums, if you’re interested.
@@payleighsteele1540 I posted a link to a segment of Classic Albums where Lyndsey plays it off the sound board

"Tusk" is another Fleetwood Mac track Amber would love - such an emphasis on the drums
Please go with the Studio Version of "Tusk". 🥁🥁
That used to be my hype music video before marching band competitions.
They would love the song Tusk itself.
They used the USC Marching Band for some of the drums/instruments.
I love that song so much and used it in my running playlist because it's just perfect with the tempo and drums...I felt like I could run forever. If you love instruments, particularly percussion, this is your song.
You can't go wrong with Fleetwood Mac. They had so many good songs. You can pick one after the other after the other. They'll never be another band like them!
💯 agree!
Jay thought it sounded country. I don't disagree, but I think I'd say it has a bit of a tribal vibe as well.
It does sound a little bit of both blended in, doesn't it@@ronburgardt6495
Starting with the entire Rumors album
I loved The Chain and Second Hand News on the Rumors album.
Since you like Stevie Nicks, you definitely need to check out Fleetwood Mac's "Gypsy". Great song and video.
Totally agree. That’s my favorite song, both of Fleetwood Mac and of Stevie Nicks as a solo artist.
the overall sound i think was meant to be dark and haunting. stevie addresses her demons, specifically her cocaine addiction ("gold dust woman, take your silver spoon, dig your grave..."). it almost took her ability to sing and moving forward, she had to adjust how she sang. her vocals after "sara" (from their following album TUSK) sound less clear, a little lower, with more vibrato, and becoming closer to the "kinda goat-like" warble that people claim.
i love this earlier-transitioning-to-new-vocal-style. and of course, major credit to lindsey buckingham for his ability to arrange and produce the supporting sound and vibe of stevie's wonderful songs ❤
Lol, my brother has always said that she sounded like a goat.
Obviously Stevie could write a good song, but I always felt it was Buckingham that shaped the sound of the band.
There are very few albums I can listen to start to finish and say every song works. Rumors is one of those albums.
Fleetwood Mac Rumours was first album I ever bought at 14!!! Still an incredible album!!💓
Want to hear an incredible Fleetwood Mac album? Listen to their 1973 "Mystery To Me" album from before Stevie and Lindsey were even in the band.
@@allengator1914 oh cool! I will look for that! Thank you so much!🎶💜
@@laurabryfogle7516
I’ll add to that.
The last song, Why, is one of the best songs ever written. OMG the whole package start to end, that song nears perfection.
@@Uatu-the-Watcher yes, so very true!! Love Fleetwood Mac!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I got at 12 with babysitting money. Wore out that cassette and hundreds of batteries, lol
They held a reunion concert in 1997...The Dance. BRILLIANT. Live snd perfect.
Agreed! Perfect! And best version of Silver Springs and Big Love ❤
Between “The Dance” and “Hell Freezes Over” by the Eagles, the 90’s had the best concerts.
@@vandergod The 90's had the best concerts... of 70's bands?
My absolute favorite performance by them. That show is EPIC!! You want to see the best of Fleetwood Mac after not performing together for ten years....watch the entire show that was also televised.
Incredible to the nth degree. 💯
@@jacqueline4514~ YES IT IS!!
That was Lindsey howling at the end.
He really knows how to make a spooky song.
I had never listened to this song with headphones before. WOW. What a beauty. There was one point where her voice seemed to come OUT of the music. Like there was an instrument that just morphed in to her voice. Gorgeous
I only listen to music with my great headphones! ❤
I’m 65 and I listen to the oldies all the time and appreciate the instrumental and voices more so than before ❤
I saw Fleetwood Mac twice on their '77 "Rumours'" Tour. Stevie hit that big note at the end EXACTLY how it sounds here. An amazing experience!!!
NIIIICE..
This song is a perfect example of what Lindsey can do with a Stevie song.
Hey Rob Squad. This song closed out the legendary "Rumours" album. I always remember the first time I listened to the album all the way thru and got to this song. This song, for many girls like myself, cemented Stevie as our witchy rock queen for all time. 💜🖤
Hole (fronted by Kurt Cobain's widow Courtney Love) does a phenomenal job of covering this song.
Stevie and Lindsay's voices together are magic.
Fleetwood Mac always have that point of the song where it gets very rhythmic and almost tribal. It’s fantastic.
One of the best bands ever to me! Stevie Nicks is amazing!
Incredibly dramatic, powerful snd haunting composition. Stevie's vocals and Lindsey's guitar are a perfect combination.
Stevie Nicks' lyrics captured heartbreak that I had experienced in my life ... "Well, did she make you cry, Make you break down, Shatter your illusions of love? And is it over now, do you know how to pick up the pieces and go home..."
That right there is what happened when my fiancée left me and married someone else right away... And Stevie Nicks was going through a painful breakup w/ guitarist/ vocalist Lindsey Buckingham while working w/ him on this record and struggling w/ a drug problem... It always helps when u feel like someone else shared her pain and heartbreak in a beautiful song.
Lindsey Buckingham years later recalled that he "could only hear the drugs" in the song's extended outro...
A MUST HEAR Classic,, Fleetwood Mac "Hypnotized" 🔥
Thank you ❤❤❤
Off "Mystery to Me".
@@Wolverines77 You are more than welcome.
@@williammckay9229 Yes..Purposely suggested it to try & Get them to realize/appreciate the fact that Fleetwood Mac has been putting out great music long before Nicks/Buckingham,, So far they act/think that Stevie Nicks is Fleetwood Mac..So I keep trying to suggest other earlier Fleetwood Mac beautiful tracks like "Dragaonfly",, Etc.
I figured. I was letting them know where to find such a GREAT SONG. I remember this song from those days and still love it. I was 14yo at the time. "Albatross" would be another one to suggest for early, early FM. Such a great song also. Take care happy you.
Amber, I love your shirt! John Lennon would too...,🙂
Fun fact - that’s Lindsey screaming at the end. Not Stevie. It shocked me.
One of my favorite Fleetwood Mac songs. Can't go wrong with anything off Rumors.
I am the guy. The guy that tells you exactly when and where he was when he first heard and fell in love with the Fleetwood Mac Rumours album. Summer of 1977 in the middle of the Colorado Rocky Mountains sitting on the floor, reading the album notes in Marcia's cabin. I was 13-years old attending an asthma camp. Marcia was my favorite 27-year old classic bandana wearing hippie counselor, the biggest Fleetwood Mac fan. That is until she introduced me to the album. Great memories! Fantastic album. Love your channel!
Tied with "The Chain" for favorite from the "Rumours" Lp.
Steve Nicks is my girl. I've been a fan of hers since the 70's. You two are in for a treat when you go see her in concert. I had a chance to see her in 1986, during the "Rock A Little" tour. She's absolutely mesmerizing to watch on stage...
Dreams, Go Your Own Way, Don't Stop, You Make Loving Fun.... I gave up on choosing a fave from Rumours a long time ago. The entire album is a masterpiece.
This song gives me mystic vibes her voice is very mysterious, and seductive ❤
One of my best friends from high school is Stevie Nicks’ current keyboard players. He tells me how incredibly kind and gracious she is! Her voice is perhaps the best it’s ever been on this tune. Thanks for reacting!
Just saw her last night in Baltimore, and she was fantastic. As was the entire band. Gold Dust Woman was the highlight. Absolutely epic
About damn time y'all got around to this one! Haunting vocals/Amazing harmonies/Some pickin' on the guitar that cuts through everything. This song has everything you could want in a Fleetwood Mac song. This one has a little voodoo on it.
You should watch the documentary on “Classic Albums” of the making of this Album Rumours. Listening to all the band members tell their story it's quite sad. But they made a classic brilliant album
As a 78 year old Vietnam veteran and music head, having lived during this most wonderful music period, your dive into these songs triggers so many memories and creates a peaceful escape from todays crazy world. I really appreciate that you are willing to explore and put your own reactions help me maintain some sense balance. I love your work.
I love Stevie Nicks' blown-out septum voice. Just a brilliant sonic experience.
Every single song on this album is perfect!
Best group ever!
I can't even count how many times I've listened to this album on my 8-track in and my car back in the day day Lindsay's guitar and harmonizing is unbelievable in this song❤
Every song on that album is great
If you think about the title of the album, that’s exactly what this song is about…..rumours. Things whispered, talking low, bits and pieces. It’s perfect.❤️
'Fleetwood Mac' have many great songs:
"Over My Head",
"Landslide",
"You Make Loving Fun",
"Never Going Back Again",
"Dreams",
"Don't Stop",
"Tusk",
"Sisters of The Moon",
"Little Lies",
"Everywhere",
"Big Love",
"Seven Wonders",
"Welcome to The Room...Sara",
"When I See You Again",
"Caroline",
"Mystified",
"Tango In The Night".
The Peter Green years:
"Oh Well",
"Need Your Love So Bad",
"Albatross",
"Man of The World",
"Need Your Love Tonight",
"Ooh Baby".
There are many more but these are good ones to continue with.
Thank Christ someone else knows they weren't just a 70's band!!
@@jamespasifull Thank you. Yes, many people seem to think that they were only around during the mid '70s for some reason, I think that people believe that "Rumours" was their only album.
If you’re going to see Stevie, check out Sara by Fleetwood Mac, she is singing it on this tour.
Such great harmonies, too.
Sara by Fleetwood Mac is a needed reaction
Now that's how you close an album! I just love how the three lead singers' voices blend so well together.
I would love to see you two do an entire listen through of the whole Rumours album from start to finish. A whole reaction.
That's a great idea. This album is the 9th best selling album of all time, TRULY every song is great.
Mick Fleetwood is a great drummer. Sets the rhythm for all their songs. The guitar always great and the vocals well......
I think you should do some of Lindsey Buckingham's solo work - "Holiday Road", "Go Insane", "Countdown", "Don't Look Down" - he is as talented on his own as he was with Fleetwood Mac.
Also his live performance of Big Love (a Fleetwood Mac song) at Saban Theatre is unbelievable
I truly hope you find yourself listening to Fleetwood Mac's Live version of "Big Love". Grab the version off the live album "The Dance". It's just Lindsey Buckingham, his guitar, and vocals that are all epic.
Rob Squad, you guys sure know how to express and appreciate the beauty of mostly 20th Century music
Stevie is a formidable song writer. Her voice is strong and expressive.
One of their best albums. Someone suggested Tusk, great song. Thanks for the smile.
I love that you guys are open to doing "deep cuts" from albums. Fleetwood Mac's "Gold Dust Woman" was not released as a single. Yet it's such an amazing track off an amazing album. I love that you guys pay attention to requests and recommendations. So cool. I'd recommend the Human Leagues song "Seconds" as a great deep cut of their album "Dare" (1981)
It would be cool to do the "Hole" cover now after this absolute classic. I've loved Hole's version since hearing it on The Crow II soundtrack in the late 90s. No twang, faster tempo, harder guitar and of course, Courtney's unapologetic raspy voice
I prefer the Warren Haynes and Grace Potter version of this song
You should give these album tracks a try, Stevie's "Straight Back", Christine's "Warm Ways" & Lindsey's "Big Love". But you can't go wrong with any Mac tune.
Love Fleetwood Mac ✌️❤️🎶
❤❤❤❤❤
So many truly awesome songs from them! Chain, Tusk, Second Hand News, Go your own way, Blue letter.... To name a few! 🌞🎶💃
I often play them when I want to run away into my musical forest! 👣🌲🌿🎶💃💜♥️💓
JAY AND AMBER, This is my favorite fleetwood Mac song! I would make the guys at work shut up when it came on the radio.
The Rumours album was just one terrific song after another, love this song in particular. This album was a masterpiece. 😎🍺☮️
I always loved that ending outro. It's like Stevie is at some cauldron at the end of the evening pouring her heartache and heartbreak into summoning some spirit to rectify her soul through discreet vengeance! Great reaction as always, guys!
Fleetwood Mac was so good and that album was hot hot hot. Everyone had it!!!
I love this song... I love this album... I love this band.
Don't stop is A good one.
The live versions from the 70's are epic...Stevie goes OFF!
Thanks Amber for always listening.
Everything Stevie sings is MAGIC!!!!
Saw Stevie in November. My God. Outstanding. This song live? You would not believe it!!!
Everyone has a memory of time when they first heard this song, this album. That's because everyone knew a phenomenally great collection of songs when we heard it.
I remember watching them march onstage in Feb 1977 when they won the Grammy for album of the year, smiling. They KNEW they'd win. WE knew they'd win. It was a meant-to-be moment.
And now my granddaughter loves them. The beat does go on.
Blessings ❤
It's my favorite Fleetwood Mac album ever. My girlfriend back in the late 70's loved Rumors. We would get together and listen to it over and over again as her player would go back and start over every time it finished. I know every word to every song on that album.
Please do I'm so Afraid, live version. It's a Lindsey song. Incredible guitar. Also, Rhiannon live, at midnight special, 1976. I promise , you won't regret it. 🙂
this came out when I was in high school and I had an English teacher who was such a fan she had us listen to Rumors album for 4 days then write a report on our interpretation of a song of our choice. So that was a nice week of listening to music.
Great song, not sure if you’ve done The Chain yet, the live version is fire.
Rumors is such an amazing album and a lot behind the scenes. Thanx so much, stay groovy, Peace
One of the most stunning songs... The sounds ape the band creates and especially Lindsey is next level.
Love seeing a YOUNG couple get into the music of my youth ! You guys are the best reaction duo there is !!!!!
Over the years, the question of who my favorite female vocalist is has come up many times, and I always say the same thing. There are so many that I love, like Ann Wilson, Dolly, Janis, and Dusty Springfield, and then you have those fantastic voices like Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, and Karen Carpenter that sound like angels. But my first number-one favorite has always been Stevie.
I remember when I first bought this album in 1978 I was blown away. I must have played this album 100 times in the first week. I've been in love with Stevie since.
years ago in the 80s my friend said that this song reminded her of me - i always thought it was a compliment
Rumors is one of the few albums where every song is so good they can all be part of a greatest hits album. Just think about the fact that they couldn’t fit the song Silver Spring on this album tells you how loaded it is on the initial vinyl release. We had Rumors, Boston, and The Stranger back to back…all worthy of being on greatest hits albums.
Stevie collaborated with the Foo Fighters and did an amazing live performance of this song. Imagine Dave on lead guitar and the late Taylor on drums. It took the performance to entirely new level with incredible energy
Haunting is the word to describe this song. Hands down my totes fave Mac tune. Gives me chills a half a century later!
This is one of her best songs. Love Fleetwood Mac
Love this reaction. Song was released in 1977, I was only 6y/o but it moved me and still does to this day. Amber felt this the way I did as a little girl in the 70's. Proof that music is timeless...💞
if you have the chance, I highly recommend u react to Stevie performing this song 30 yrs later, at 60yrs old, in 2008 during her Live in Chicago EPIC solo tour. 30yrs later... she's still blowing our minds and touching our souls. It's magical. Peace, light and love💞

Amazing Vocals❤
The Freddie mercury memorial concert in was one of the greatest live shows ever. There were so many top stars, some now unfortunately passed, mostly English, but their performances of Queen songs are top stuff. They include: David Bowie, Liza Stansfield, George Michael, Roger Daltrey and Annie Lennox.
Love this song! Hole did a pretty awesome cover of it.
No they didn’t
Agreed. Nothing will be as good as this, but Hole's cover is decent.
@@jimmymac4559It's no Fleetwood Mac, but it's a good cover, as far as covers go.
When we visited the USA in 2022 we visited the studio where that album was recorded... Amazing album and one of my all time favourites...
That “ western “ sound was typical of bands in the late 70’s - that sound mainly came out from the SoCal area ; The Eagles , JD. Souther , Jackson Browne , when they added the two Americans is when the band began to morph into something different. The album was recorded in L.A. the hit factory.
RUMOURS!!!! One of THE. BEST. ALBUMS. of all time! So many hits and it was HUGE back in the day. Great memories. I absolutely love that you two are experiencing (and feeling) all the amazing music we had back in the 70s/80s. You are also both getting really good at describing the vibe of the songs you review. BRAVO you two!!
One of my all-time favorite bands from back in the day. You guys should check out the song " Silver Springs"if you haven't already.
Just enough…but never too much. The magic of Fleetwood Mac.
Fleetwood Mac! It's been a minute. You've got so much big stuff to get to. From what I don't think you've done; 1) I'm So Afraid (Live) 1976 [Currently mislabeled on CZcams as "Say You Love Me" but thumbnail is Lindsey in a red shirt - DO THIS ONE, please], 2) You Make Loving Fun (Live) 1976, 3) Sara (Live) 1979, 4) Gypsy (Official Music Video), 5) Hold Me (Official Music Video), 6) Big Love (Live) 1997, 7) Tusk (Live) 1997. Oh, and there's more...
Top five album of all time, perfect from beginning to end. Their pain was truly our pleasure.
There is a live rendition of this song on CZcams. She's singing with Bob Welch, former Fleetwood Mac member, guitarist. They were never in Fleetwood Mac at the same time. Mick Fleetwood playing cowbell. It's special to watch. I'm not lying. Smoking good music
So glad you guys did this one; this song is underappreciated, imo. It tends to get overshadowed by their other hits. But this song is amazing and truly Fleetwood Mac. Magical and legendary.
Iconic song! This whole album is amazing from beginning to end.
