    Lyrics
And did those feet in ancient times
    Walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
    On England's pleasant pastures seen?
    And did the countenance divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
    And was Jerusalem built here
    Among those dark Satanic mills?
Bring me my bow of burning gold
Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear! Oh clouds unfold!
Bring me my chariot of fire
I will not cease from mental fight
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand
    Till we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land

Greetings from Germany - i just played this to my Haribo Goldbären - they turned into English winegums!

😆 my dad used to always being back 'gold bears' from his trip to Germany. Winegums are a bit French tho...maybe some good old Wether's Originals or Bassets Allsorte next time?
Also out of interest do you know what are the German orange and lemon hard boiled sweets with a liquid centre?

How does music by someone like Nicki Minaj get into the charts but something so beautiful and as talented as this is unheard of?
    This world is backwards.

She has a gorgeous voice and this is one of my favorite hymns of all time. I do have a gripe and it's not with Ms. Church but who set up the tempo of the music played.... I think it's a touch too quick. (My opinion.) Still is gorgeous..
P.S. If you like this, then you should also go see Ms. Church sing Men of Harlech. She brings beauty to that song.

As an Oriental person myself, I have to say that it feels strange and beautiful to hear Europeans sing praises in their own language to the God of my ancestors. I don't know how to precisely put it, but I bet Europeans would feel the same if they saw us following their costumes and traditions. It's such an honorable and beautiful thing to feel mutually.

[It's "my mental fight", not "the endless". Though that works too!]
Words: William Blake in 1804 (printed 1808).
(The "dark satanic mills" may have in fact referred to the universities, not the literal mills of the industrial revolution.)
Music: Sir Hubert Parry (1848-1918) 1916; orchstrated Elgar 1922.

A stunning composition from Sir Hubert Parry, orchestration by Britains great composer Sir William Elgar and William Blakes apocryphal poem about the enslavement of the masses by the industrial revolution and more speciffically Boulton and Watts Albion Four mill in Southwark, make this one of the great musucal pieces of all time IMO.
    Just stunning!
Interestingly the Bishop of London N T Wright in 2007 acknowledged that the "dark satanic mills" referred to the "great churches" .
The non Conformists believed that the demand absolute for conformity, maintenance of the class system and a rigid social order. by the church was church doctrine.
Some things have changed very little and the conservative Christian churches still appear to weild so much power in the UK and other nations including the USA.

The girl has a good voice, but it's quite untrained, I'm surprised she was put to solo against a full orchestra. I mean, not comparatively untrained for a child of her age, she looks to be a teenager, I just can't fathom putting a teenager before an orchestra and making both parties look foolish.

  • @JoshKorn2
    @JoshKorn2 Před 4 lety +1

    This is obscene.
The lyrics are the embodiment of appropriation, an attempt to relocate Jerusalem to "England's green and pleasant land", which has never been terribly pleasant for Jews.
There is nothing "green and pleasant" about the real Jerusalem, and nothing in it that's even remotely English.

There’s nothing appropriating about English people singing about Christianity, a religion they’ve practiced for more than a thousand years.
