I am an American and the first time I heard this hymn was in the 1982 film CHARIOTS OF FIRE. The people of England are so very fortunate to have this beautiful piece of music as their unofficial anthem. Every time I hear this sung, whether by an individual or a crowd, I marvel at the culture England has given us. BRAVO!

Should be our national anthem. The idiots who say “ b-b-but Jerusalem is a city thousands of miles away” “it’s too religious”, simply don’t get it. It’s about building a better society for all. And fighting with everything we’ve got to make it happen. It’s truly one of the greatest pieces of music ever written.

I adore this Hymn. At school in 1960 being 5 I cannot remember alot. But l remember this. this was played very often. In our school service many a morning. What sticks out in my mind. We had one Jewish young lad called Selwyn Brown. Because he was of the Jewish faith. He was removed and asked to stand outside the glass upper doors. Which did feel strange has he could still hear the whole service haha. Selwyn was a really bonny young man with Jet Black curly hair. I was very good friends with Selwyn. I was kind of protective of him. His parents had the clothes shop on holderness road. I lived nearly opposite that shop. Our street was Balfour Street. It was a great street to live. Everyone knew each other. You left your front doors open. Often with the keys still in. Wow. What a wonderful era then. I loved it. Mam bought our house in 1950 apparently. Then its life had finished it was going to be pulled down. In short we got keys off someone who did not want to move to Bransholme mam n dad jumped at the chance of living in the country. Our house had a life of 6 months so the couple took that risk then bu the time it came down they would get keys to somewhere not so far out!!! . Plus when pulled down the ground rent would have given them roughly about £500 in 1969 that was a fortune. But my parents just wanted to leave. I was thirteen. So for me it was a new adventure. I stayed at David Lister School a very moden Comprehensive very modern facilities. Such has the Foriegn Language lab. Has they called it. With so many booths that you could sit in with head phones. I loved French at that time. Later came in handy when l sailed with my ex husband. Asking for a cheese sandwich no problem Fromarge haha the bread l cannot remember haha . I used to get the bus. It was only for about 6 months by this time l was nearing 15 and my time to contribute to the working system. I did a series of jobs. I did not know what l wanted to do. Till someone kind of steered me into the world of care work. In 1978. And l did that working my way up gaining skills and enjoying every minute. The person responsible for the move into this work. I believe was God. Thank you God for showing me the way has l was drifting from job to job. With no purpose. You Lord gave me a role to play. Giving me a real Joy helping others giving me a direction in life. I thank you for those years. I am still helping even now retired on health grounds using my brain and in return people are now helping me carry that purpose on. Plus you Lord are still shinging that Torch and showing me the light of way . It really does show. When you see some of us drifting you come and rescue us into a place giving us self worth. Thank you Jesus for all of my life. Even with its ups and downs and sorrows. It is still a beautiful existence. If life was far too easy . What would be the point. We can only show growth in how we deal with these sticky unbearable situations. But its been proven time after time. That you have been there in the wings ready to catch us when we fall.

Sadly now, the national anthem of New Zealand called ''God Defend New Zealand'' all written in feminine was no longer with us. We have lost Her Majesty's Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022. She died at the age of 96. In fact, this is ''God Defend New Zealand'' in masculine. A new King in the UK, a new reigning monarch, a new era of royal family members and a new head of the Commonwealth. King Charles III. There are 56 countries of the Commonwealth. Russell Watson, Aled Jones, Alfie Boe, Michael Ball, Vincent Niclo, Andrea Bocelli, Mario Frangoulis, Katherine Jenkins, Laura Wright, Sarah Brightman, Hayley Westenra, Charlotte Church, Carmen Monarcha, Andre Rieu, Carla Maffioletti, Kimmy Skota, Mairead Nesbitt, Orla Fallon, Meav Ni Mhaolchatha, Chloe Agnew, Lisa Kelly, Simon Rattle, Mirusia Louwerse, Anna Majchrzak, Ellen Williams, London Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Celtic Woman team and the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra can sing. It has only one verse in Maori and five verses in English Here are the lyrics. #GodDefendNewZealand #GodSaveTheQueen #QueenElizabethII #GodSaveTheKing #KingCharlesIII #RussellWatson #AledJones #AlfieBoe #MichaelBall #VincentNiclo #AndreaBocelli #MarioFrangoulis #KatherineJenkins #LauraWright #SarahBrightman #HayleyWestenra #CharlotteChurch #CarmenMonarcha #AndreRieu #CarlaMaffioletti #KimmySkota #MaireadNesbitt #OrlaFallon #MeavNiMhaolchatha #ChloeAgnew #LisaKelly #SimonRattle #MirusiaLouwerse #AnnaMajchrzak #EllenWilliams #LondonSymphonyOrchestra #SingaporeSymphonyOrchestra #BerlinPhilharmonicOrchestra #CelticWoman #RTENationalSymphonyOrchestra

    (VERSE 2)
God of Nations at Thy feet,
In the bonds of love we meet,
    Hear our voices, we entreat,
    God defend our free land.
    Guard Pacific's triple star
From the shafts of strife and war,
    Make his praises heard afar,
    God defend New Zealand.
    (VERSE 3)
Men of every creed and race,
    Gather here before Thy face,
Asking Thee to bless this place,
    God defend our free land.
    From dissension, envy, hate,
    And corruption guard our state,
Make our country good and great,
    God defend New Zealand.
    (VERSE 4)
Peace, not war, shall be our boast,
But, should foes assail our coast,
Make us then a mighty host,
    God defend our free land.
Lord of battles in Thy might,
    Put our enemies to flight,
Let our cause be just and right,
    God defend New Zealand.
    (VERSE 5)
Let our love for Thee increase,
    May Thy blessings never cease,
Give us plenty, give us peace,
    God defend our free land.
    From dishonour and from shame,
    Guard our country's spotless name,
    Crown his with immortal fame,
    God defend New Zealand.
    (VERSE 6)
    May our mountains ever be
    Freedom's ramparts on the sea,
    Make us faithful unto Thee,
    God defend our free land.
Guide his in the nations' van,
Preaching love and truth to man,
    Working out Thy glorious plan,
    God defend New Zealand.

Question: can you, a native English speaker, identify all the lyrics the first time you hear she sings without seeing the lyrics?

I just.dont get how so many people think she's good . We switch her off when she comes on the Tele .If we can't find the remote we go into a mad panic. You can't understand a word she's singing most of the time.

If you are listening to this, wondering if there is a God- yes, He is real. He's complete love and He wants to know you. Look for Him and you'll easily find Him.
