  • Springbank 15 vs Benromach 15. How similar are these two whiskies? Is Benromach a worthy substitute if you can't find Springbank, and does Benromach deserve to be called the Springbank of Speyside?

BENROMACH 15 FULL REVIEW: • Benromach 15 Year Old ...
    Scores:
After my initial score I add or subtract points relative on how I perceive value (based on what I paid for the bottle). A zero value means I think the price is justified.
0-69.5 - Don’t bother trying, life is too short for bad spirit.
70-79.5 - Worth trying, but you’re not missing out if you don’t.
    80-84.5 - I recommend trying.
    85-87.5 - Definitely try this!
    88-91.5 - I recommend buying a bottle blind!
92-95.5 - Stuff you reserve for special pours!
96+ - The meaning of life.

Nice one bud. I would go as far as to suggest the benromach is more consistent but the Springbank can be spectacular if you find the right batch.

Id say its absolutely fair to call Benromach the "Springbank of the Speyside." Family owned, low volume distillery focussing on a more old school style peated speyside distillate. Standard 10, 15, 21 is moderately peated with those funky overatures
You are alluding to. Even the cask types for the 10 are similar to the SB10. Then there are the heavily peated releases that oftrn are a good comparable to Longrow. A triple distilled unpeated to go head to head with Hazelburn. It almost feels intentional. Lol. Too many people are sleeping on the Benromach 10 and 15 because of chill filtration and 3% less. They are missing out.

Brilliant idea to do a head-to-head of these two whiskies Jeremy. I never connected with the Springbank 15, no matter when I've tried it so for me Benromach takes this one. Cheers 🥃

very very nice and honest review. TBH Springbank 15 year is $160 USD before tax if you can even find it. I'll take the Benromach 15 year as it is so much more readily available now in my area.

Very good review. Benromach is my favorite distillery and I just now got my first bottles of Springbank 12yo Cask Strength and 15yo. I love the 10yo already and can't wait to dive in deeper and maybe do this kind of comparisons. Good review! I have a 2022 batch of Springbank 15 and it’s average. Not like I remember it. I tasted the Benromach 15 before the re-brand but never bought a bottle bc I thought the 10 was that good. Talking before new labels. I think I need to get the new Benromach 15 though. Cheers.

Terrific thoughts Jeremy! I love both of these beauties! The annoying issue is Springbank batch variation. I don’t find that with the Benromach! I could easily have a delicious pour of either of these! I just bought a new Benromach 15 yesterday!! It’s so much easier to access than the Springbank 15. Neither are ever offensive in any way!! Hey I hope your mom is still helping you access fabulous cigars! My husband Joel and I loved it when you mentioned that! Yikes we pay $200 for the Springbank but we can get the Benromach 15 for $135 - both before taxes. But hey I still grab the Lagavulin 16 for $200 with taxes! If you get a chance a terrific summer Sean is the delicious Lagavulin Offerman 11 4 th Edition!! The charred edition is my fave but this new edition is nice! Rum castling! Not usually a fan but this one of so good! Hope you find it and like it!! Charred oysters, lemons and that delicious Lagavulin smoke!! Cheers Jeremy!! Hope u r well!!

I love that we have a 100 pt scale (sure sure I realize nobody uses the full scale) and still need to score 0.5 pts. My take is it's not good enough to be a 90, just call it an 89. Good reviews though, definitely a good side by side comparison. I might have to grab one of my benromach cask strength vintages and put it in a battle against a springbank 12 year cask strength.

Your car comparison nailed it. I’ve had both bottles but not a side by side. There is something mysterious and special about SB. But for me it’s almost too much, and I need to be in the right mood for it. Benromach though not as rich or bold, I can enjoy anytime.

I got the Benromach after watching your review of it. The Springbank 15 i picked up at the distillery after visiting Islay came off the ferry at night and drove down to Campbelltown. The drive is not for the faint of heart in the dark. Paid 75£ for it in the shop after getting in the queue. Love both whisky's paid 115$ Canadian for the Benromach at the LCBO. The flavor profile on the Springbank is deeper and the viscosity oily so gives a nice long finish. But being in Ontario the Benromach will be replaced hands down . My next quest is to get the Springbank 10

Springbank is the expensive and hard-to-get Benromach of Campbeltown. Of the two 15 in my market, the Springbank is twice the price and has to be ordered online, while the Benromach 15 was $100 US per 750 ml at the local bottle shop.

I think this is a very good comparison video. I also appreciate the honesty in the comparison. That being said, how much more would you pay for 30% better? Depends on the buyer, but 30%, which I think is fair in the instance, isn’t a fair comparison at all.

With G&M moving out purchasing casks, I think the dream would be to see them move to Springbank’s model and do everything by hand in house. Their single cask bottlings and cask strength additions are great, and the core range provides great value as well, but bottled at 46% non-chill filtered and everything done in house would push it much closer to SB in quality.

After trying a dram in Edinburgh, I waited years (literally) to get the SB15. It was good but I honestly was a bit disappointed.
