congrats Holly! hope you have lots of fun :) I think it's important to remember that a contraception method is not protection against STDs, so people should always wear protection if they are not with a person they trust completly.
Holly has been with Angelo for a few months now. I understand where you are coming from with the STDs, but at this point in their relationship, they would trust each other to get any tests before not using condoms, and condoms are purely for contraception at this point
oh yes 100% 👌🏻 i mentioned this a lot in my contraception video, which i filmed around a similar time, so i think that's why i omitted it here! but thank you for reminding those watching! the need for STD testing and prevention also depends on your relationship status and situation, but again, it is definitely worth mentioning 🙌🏻
You state "no more condoms" in the thumbnail and don't mention anywhere that IUDs dont protect against STDs. You are promoting STDs. This is not a detail...
@@cultura6446 Holly isn’t promoting STDs, she’s made a video on her experience with a type of contraception that others may have not encountered before. If you see some of her comments, you’ll see she’s addressed that the thumbnail was misleading on her part. But she is not a health care professional, and this is for mainly entertainment/information on other types of contraception only.
@@sophieirwin3497 I think with her college credentials and her audience, yes, she is promoting STDs by telling people to not use condoms. She is also calling haters to people who point this out. She is an 'authority" because she has her degree. However, the general people don't know her degree does not qualify her to give medical advice , which she is doing by saying "no more condoms" and presenting a video on IUDs (which she JUST discovered ???! ... this an "old" contraception method) without disclosing it doesn't prevent STDs.
Unfortunately, the thumbnail is presenting this as if condoms are something inconvenient to be avoided
Jesus loves you ❤️ please turn to him and repent before it's too late. The end times described in the Bible are already happening in the world.
I don’t agree. Everyone who uses them knows that they can be slightly inconvenient and not as good as (let’s face it) without. They also do interrupt sex, to a certain extent. Thank you Holly for hi lighting the various options available!
that isn't what i intended, but i have modified it just to make sure it isn't misleading at all!
don't use condoms if you want to catch incurable STDS@@SmileySasky
Any foreign body (including GyneFix) will cause an asymptomatic sterile (since in this case the device is sterile) inflammatory response also known as the "foreign body reaction". This reaction is what contributes to increased blood loss. By reducing the size of the foreign body, we are able to reduce the size of the reaction, in turn leading to less increases in blood loss over the menstrual base line. GyneFix, as it is lacking a plastic frame but also due to the copper sleeve mechanic it is using, is so small that the 4-sleeve GyneFix is observed not to increase menstrual bleeding above the base line in a small scale study on Belgian women.
In your case, however, since you have come from 8 years of amenohrea, any increases in bleeding in the first 6 months may be attributed to your body going back to baseline - which you may not even know as it has been such a long time- rather than bleeding caused by the device. It does take some time for your body to get rid of the systemic LNG it has been exposed to.
Checking the GyneFix thread is not advised as it may inadvertently move the GyneFix to a suboptimal position - especially in the first weeks following insertion. Instead ask your doctor to "loop" the thread back into the cervical canal so that your partner does not feel it during intercourse. The vacuum of a menstrual cup should be no problem - but do not use it for the first 2 months following insertion and avoid placing the cup too high in the vagina. With regards to expulsion, close to all GyneFix expulsions are actually a result of an unnoticed failed insertion (eg. leaving the device in situ without implanting it in the fundal myometrium, only for it to be "expelled" during the first menstruation). As you rightfully said, trained doctors are essential and seldomly encounter these events.
There are actually quite a lot of studies performed by Dr. Wildemeersch, the developer of GyneFix. The publication you mentioned was not the most reliable, as many of the inserting physicians were not officially trained in the insertion - leading to a skewed performance in terms of failed insertions and first year expulsions associated with failed insertions (here is Dr. Wildemeersch's response to that publication in 2010: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20103458/). Most of the comparative trials are quite old considering development was done in the late 80's to early 90's - and the device has been continuously improved since then. Feel free to read up on them via Dr. Wildemeersch's research page (scopus: www.scopus.com/authid/detail.uri?authorId=56196965400)
Condoms are not just for contraception
Indeed! Thumbnail is misinformation sadly. Always a good idea to get STD checks with new partners.
Yeah but if you’re in a relationship where you’ve checked for stds… than a condom pretty much is…
i totally agree!! there is so much to say in videos like this, and sometimes because i have *so* much to say, the most basic things are not mentioned 😅 but thank you for leaving this comment anyway!
yes, it really does depend on your situation tbh! condoms are really important for STD prevention when you are not in a fully committed relationship, but if you are in a long-term, stable relationship and STD checks have been done, then condoms in that context are just there as a method of birth control 👌🏻@@markspark7347
interesting to see how people interpret thumbnails differently, but i see this side now! thanks for bringing this to my attention - i will modify it so it isn't misleading! thanks!!@@studycat4034
Holly the THUMBNAIL. You present the Gynefix, as a better method of contraception. Cool, it might work for you, but it doesn't protect against STIs like condoms do. You also titled the video as "everything to know about the Gynefix". You don't mention anything about STIs.
You did five years of science at university. I'd expect that you'd be less misleading and also encourage people to see their doctor or HCP.
The original title and thumbnail of this video was "NO MORE CONDOMS". That should tell you a lot about her intentions of this post. Purely clickbaiting with complete disregard for public health.
She states in a comment she only learnt about IUDs this year from her obgyn. I'm actually scared to think about the amount of arrogance one needs to believe they have qualifications to provide medical advice, when they didn't know of the existence of a pretty common medical device that has been around for decades. Dangerous to say the least
@@cultura6446 Holly just said she has STI. No wonder she likes that "no condoms"
When I got a coil, I was in a lot of pain. It felt like stomach cramps to begin with, but by the time I got home I couldn't even stand up. Honestly I've never been in so much pain. It's outrageous that women aren't always given some kind of anesthetic to get these kind of procedures. We're just expected to put up with the pain.
Hello, Holly. Always remember: ``Be curious, ask questions and always trust your instincts.``
Excellent informative video Holly highlighting that there are other forms of contraception available to women other than the pill! The more people that have this fitted the more experts we will have to do the fitting. The side effects are really quite minimal compared to hormonal contraceptives - ladies do you your research and never be afraid to ask questions.
thanks!! many many girls and women will just go on the pill because everyone else is doing so, therefore i thinks it's useful for people to hear about alternatives! and i agree, this is not me *telling* people to get a gynefix . . . but i encourage people to consider *all* their options, do their own research and then make a decision!
Such a weird comment from someone who has Dr as a username... Any doctor sees IUDs on a daily basis. Non hormonal contraceptive method are not new... I assume you are not a medical doctor...
@@cultura6446 gynefix is rare
Ok but ideally the person is clinically-certified STD free because no one can tell just by looking..
By stating in the thumbnail "no more condoms" and by in no way clarifying in the video or description that IUDs don't protect from STDs, she is promoting unprotected sex and the spread of STDs.
Forgot to add that she is calling haters to people who point this out. Really concerning behaviour. I used to be a fan
you have no idea how helpful this video is aha I think I am getting mine fitted in the same place you did and it has reassured me sm knowing you had a good experience!!
awww I’m so so glad!! 🥰 it’s going to feel very strange and depending on your pain tolerance, maybe a bit painful too, but trust me, it’s super quick and you’ll be just fine!! I hope everything goes well ✨
Thanks for sharing, everyone is different! IUDs have only been a struggle and painful for months for me (when s3x active or on my flow). Luna in her youtube/podcast 'On Pointe' (lets talk about s3x episode) recently shared some advice and experiences. I've not tried the hormonal ones however they're all chemical at the end of the day so affect your natural cervical ph and period etc anyway which can be a different experience for everyone so defiently be wary of these changes and if you're unhappy after a few months definetly make sure your gp hears you and removes it to see if the problems dissapear instantly or not.
Medical student here. Spiral is a very good method of anticonception indeed. Even with the hormonal one very small amounts of hormones go to the general bloodstream so the systemic side effects are much better than the other (hormonal) methods. Only thing with copper is it might make menstruation heavier. But it is hormone free, so I guess it depends on the persons personal characteristics and the goal they want to achieve (so mainly contraception or also improvement of symptoms associated with menstruation). You do always have to consider that insertion can be painful, especially for people who have vaginismus/dyspareunia or overactive pelvic floor. That said, in many places it is possible to ask for a calming or light sedating medication.
Forgot to mention that of course if your partner (or you) has had previous sexual partners, you should also use the condom. The condom is still the only method that protects from both.
With the IUD, your risk of an ectopic pregnancy is sky high compared to baseline though, and that can cause massive problems unfortunately. Its best to talk about the risks as well. Especially doctors should be very concerned about disclosing risks with what they prescribe or recommend
More information than you would ever learn at school! Never heard of a gynefix before, very interesting! For videos like this though, it would maybe be great to get a couple other people involved to discuss their experiences too?
Also very glad to notice you have changed the thumbnail, my first thought was what about STI 😅
My main question about the gynaefix is about the removal. Does it not damage the uterus muscle when it’s removed?
I did learn about this form of contraception in school. Same principle as the copper spiral :)
i didn't learn about this at all! 😅
How did you just learn about IUDs this year ? And what are your credentials to present it to your big audience in such a light way about a very serious subject... Are you trying to promote STDs ? Your thumbnail against the use of condom suggests it
The active component is the same, True, but the shape and size is vastly different. As a result the insertion, side effects, tolerability, solo much is different compared to a T shapes iud many People learn about in school
If you are worried about cups and IUDs you can use a menstrual disc, which is similar to cups but doesn’t use suction, so it’s completely safe. I recommend watching period nirvana videos about it!
You are very new to sex and just now learning about your body. You should not be giving contraceptive advise AT ALL. This is very dangerous
It’s not about experience, its science and facts. Which she is very qualified for, considering her degree.
She is sharing her experiences and insights from her research. There is nothing dangerous or wrong sbout anything she said.
You sound very insecure to be sayingsomething this unnecessarily negative. Go hate somewhere else.
@@white_tulip2189 Oh you mean the degree she's had for about 5 years? Interesting. And when did she get her period back? Right. And you think she's qualified as a medical professional? Any medical professional will tell you with any contraception, you should still use condoms especially at Holly's age and with her hormonal imbalance and unregulated cycle.
@@explicitlyme7497
You clearly dont know what youre talking about. The IUD is one of THE safest contraceptions out there. So idk which medical professionals youre talking to but with a 99% effectiveness any sane doctor will absolutely clear you to use it as sole measure against pregnancy. In addition, Holly is in a monogamous relationship. So the protection from stds argument also doesnt make sense. I cannot believe YOU are spreading this terrible misinformation. Youre so blinded by hate its actually damaging young viewers who get confused by your comment.
You dont need to be a medical professional to talk about your own experiences with a product. Especially when Holly clearly did her research and named/showed her sources for if you want to read up more on it.
The implication that she is less qualified to talk about her own contraception because of her past history with her period is actually just disgusting. Wow.
@@white_tulip2189A biology major should not be giving medical advice. They are not a doctor. They did not go to medical school or residency. Also products are available just like Botox is available but that doesn’t mean it is for everyone or that it should be advertised. Holly is so young and she just got a boyfriend. Why can’t he just wear a condom? This is dangerous especially considering that she doesn’t get her periods and hasn’t been health for a while
This came so out of the blue 😂😂
Please be careful using the mentral cup. I have an IUD and used a menstrel cup and the IUD fell out. The same thing happened to my friend. I know it’s rare but just be care ful x
how the hell is it like minus degrees in the UK and I am melting with 32C in my room here in switzerland???
also not me not realising that this video was filmed in march, it does make sense now
I was also confused haha
haha my bad, so i did film this before i left for asia, but i didn't have my tablet with me to make the diagrams etc so i decided to wait until i got back to edit it properly and finish the video 👌🏻
I was gonna say, it’s been 26 the last few days in Cambridge, so it’s deffo not cold 🙂 I’ve been sleeping with my back door open!!
It’s so fun to see you home😊
love being back 🤓🤓🤓
thank you for this amazing video, I've got my copper spirale in for 4 years now and even though my period is heavier its the best thing ever for me, because it sits perfectly up there and i dont have any hormones extra in my body nor does i have to think about taking the pill every day. next year i'll let it take it out and will probably have another one for 5 years again, hopefully with the same easiness as I've got now. And about the pain when i got mine fitted: it really hurt and i had some problems with fainting but it was really hot that day and i havent eaten anything bc it was 10am or so
Never even knew this existed! Super informative thanks
super glad you found out about something new!! i always advise assessing all your options (which i will talk about more thoroughly in my dedicated contraception video coming out soon!), but i hope this was useful to watch anyway 🤓👌🏻
Please don't be a danger to the youth ! You highly promoted unprotected sex with the original upload of this video! Your education did not taught you about IUDs , a method that has been around for decades. You have been having sex for a year in your mid twenties. You are uneducated about contraception. You have an audience that trusts you and you are promoting unprotected sex with "NO MORE CONDOMS" in your video title.
If it's non-hormonal could you please explain why it can affect the length of your periods? How does the copper affect your natural hormones to induce longer/shorter periods?
The cooper has a local effect on the uterus, in the sense that is stimulates the release of vasoactive substances, increasing the blood flow of the uterus , therefore increasing the period
I started using hormonal contraception a few month ago for 2 reasons: to have extra protection (I use condoms too) and for my acne treatment. I didn't do much research about it back then, just followed my doctor's advice on contraception.
However, I'm not feeling 100% comfortable with using the pill as I've heard a lot about possible long-term side effects and it makes me worried... So now I'm thinking of choosing an alternative way of contraception and your video has been extremely useful, Holly!
I'm genuinely surprised to see so many mean comments here. How many people do ACTUALLY study how different ways of contraception works and make an informed decision? My guess is that few people go so deep as to study the biology of the process and check scientific research.
Thank you for the video, Holly! Don't listen to those who came here to criticize a job well-done.
i know a bunch of ppl who have gotten pregnant on iuds tho
Not to mention the people who were positive for STDs after not using a condom. And yet the states in the thumbnail "no more condoms" and does not inform anyone IUDs don't protect from STDs.
no contraception is 100 per cent effective ...
I don’t know why women go through these things but men just have to wear condoms. Make your boyfriend wear a condom
Condoms can also reduce sexual pleasure for women as well
condoms break...maybe she doesn't want to risk it
@@maneskinnnnn7190 It rarely happens, and when it does you take a plan B pill.
@@maneskinnnnn7190 Then use pills or other contraception along with condoms. Need to protect from STD
Holly love your scarf do you mind sharing where it’s from?
very interesting though I'm happy with my copper IUD atm. I looked it up and it's not approved in Canada as of yet
Thanks for the informative video Holly! Got the copper (framed) IUD and the insertion pain and follow up cramps were pretty bad and lasted for nearly 2 weeks which made me consider taking it out, it's all good now and I'm very happy about it but I do have a bit worse period cramps and heavier flow, so next time I need to change it I might try the gynafix!
Also wanted to suggest switching to a menstrual disc instead of cup, it's very similar but there's no suction and no pinching needed to remove it (you just hook the side with your finger), so it could lower the risks of pullin on the strings by mistake!
what cup do you use?
I always thought the sheet of paper to go over you for these kind of procedures is a bit useless; the nurse can see everything anyway 😂
haha true 😂 i do always feel a bit more comfortable though when i am covered as they come in, idk why 😂😂😂 . . . and even though they then take it off haha
@@HollyGabrielle true, as I wouldn’t want everything on show if the door was opened 😂 I’m definitely not the patient to help teach female gynaecological anatomy to students!
what period underwear do you use?
Snuggs 🫶🏻✨
Also had one and mine fell out after 2 weeks and the copper iud with a frame gave me way too much pain for months but it's different for everyone
it is very different for everyone, yes, and so that's why it's important for people to weigh up and pros and cons of different birth control options and find the one that works best for them 🤓👌🏻
Still you'll need to wea a protection. Bareback sex may bring you a happy sex life though
Y’all are weird
YOU CAN STILL CONCEIVE LADIES There's one very important part missed here that holly kind of was misleading about but people should know. Gynefix has dual capabilities. It is supposed to immobilise sperm and prevent fertilisation but just as we see with other forms of contraception, fertilisation can and often still occurs. Their definition of pregnancy is based on implantation NOT fertilisation. So you can still concieve a child. The second part of the gynefix makes the lining of the womb a hostile environment that essentially stops the baby from implanting and causes what is called a "silent abortion". So you could conceive multiple times while having this thing inside of you and never know as you'll pass the baby during your next period. There's no way to 100% prevent pregnancy. As we know everything about a child is determined at the moment of conception, from height to hair colour, it's important women actually know what this thing does.
Dont really see the issue here. Its doing exactly what its meant to do, not give her a child.
@@sola_a you've literally created an entirely new and unique human being the moment you conceive. Offspring. Children. All this thing does is kill he/she before they get the chance to develop any further
And you want to make sure women feel guilty about using contraception by calling it a “silent abortion”. The 32-256 cell- disc before implantation is called a blastocyst. Facts are facts.
I think your phrase 'and so often does' is very misleading
100% correct. So so misleading not to even mention this at all.

Scare mongering about hormonal contraception is just as bad. Everyone’s body is different and will respond differently to different types of contraception. For some women, hormonal BC is helpful.

How much sex anyone is having is not your business. Everyone can make their own decisions about that themselves. Lol and People who are married or in long term relationships are the people who need birth control the most so I have no idea what you’re talking about. You should always think about what impact can a video have on viewers, especially on younger ones.
@@BBartistic Holly is an adult, she is showcasing an adult being responsible. Seeking appropriate birth control because she is sexually active, speaking to medical professionals, weighing her options and making a decision she is comfortable with. People these days have miserable relationships, have lack of self esteem and think love doesnt exist just because of these things.
@@BBartistic you are making a lot of assumptions; (1) the whole point of contraception is to prevent pregnancy so if you have an issue with people wanting to prevent pregnancy why did you watch a video about contraception? (2) being sexually active means having sex - it could be with one person or 100 people, it just refers to having sex it isn’t a comment about how many people you’re having sex with and Holly isn’t making ANY statements about how many people anyone should have sex with. That’s for individuals to decide for themselves (3) lol yah people are miserable and imagine how much more miserable everyone involved would be if they added unplanned children into the mix 😱
