    It's just safe to assume that the 7 in every 10 ppl dying is either an exaggeration or only true in some areas, while other in others the plague hit less hard and the problem was more the famine/war that would follow... In irl Europe many regions did see a population drop of almost a half during the black plague and they turned out "fine", recovering population wise in roughly a century.

    • @Grivehn
      @Grivehn Před měsícem

      "Fine' when all those nations suffered and they only kept chipping at each other. The Empire's whole thing is being surrounded by foes, yet NONE of them capitalized on this weakness. Hummus is right about that.
      Norscans could have rolled over Altdorf. Beastmen could have popped up from the woods to take out Middenland. (If they werent a joke in the first place.) Bretonnia could have taken Marienburg from Norscans and kept it for themselves. And there are still Chaos in general which could have used cults or an invasion to finish what Skaven started. Or Greenskins Waaagh hearing about the biggest war of the century coming rolling from south.

    • @shorewall
      @shorewall Před měsícem

      It'd make more sense if it was more like the IRL Black Plague, and it affected everyone, including the Skaven, including the Undead, because then everyone would be on equal footing.
      But irl, people weren't fighting wars during the Black Plague, they were traumatized.

    If the empire in Warhammer is anything like the Holy Roman Empire in reality, then it doesn't have *a* central army but *several* armies. In the former HRE, there was the Imperial Army, the Holy Roman Emperor's army, the provisional armies, and the Army of the Empire, the Imperial Diet's army composed of mustered forces from across the HRE. Then there were the local forces of the various duchies, republics, princedoms, fiefdoms, and so on within the HRE.
    So Goldgather may have disbanded an army of the empire instead of *the* army of the empire.

    Doesn't it take an army to kill another army? How does the emperor eliminate his entire army?
    In any case the novels seem to represent the skaven perfectly.
    The novels were written to detail an event that was a detail without further explanation that seven out of ten died. That the novels have to continue. When it is explained in more detail, that is when the difficulties of making it coherent begin to be seen, especially if even more losses are added for other reasons. That the debacle of seven out of ten is more than enough to weaken the empire almost fatally.
    I guess the empire activated druchii mode and more imperial troops just appeared out of nowhere.

    • @HumanBoyYesYes

      The army was unarmed and protesting, asking for jobs and bread. His secret police surrounded the plaza at night, set fire to the park they were camped in and then the emperor's personal knights charged in while they were confused. So his royal guard and secret police won a fight outnumbered 1 to 5

    The imperial army itself is what got disbanded and the soldiers killed. The main reason the imperial army getting disbanded mattered is because there would not be an emperor lead army, pushing the burden onto the individual nations alone (imagine the difference between the USA military and New York National Guard, kinda like that). So yes the “federal” troops were slaughtered but each elector count still had standing armies of their own. During healthy times, the empire has an army made up of men from all over the empire’s provinces in ADDITION to each elector count’s own army. Hopefully what I’m saying makes sense here, might not be articulating this well enough

    I think important thing to remember is that the Goldtooth killed most of Reikland and Drakwald soldiers that were dismissed and went to protest in Altdorf, while other provinces have their own armies.
    As for invasions from orcs norscans or bretonnians, while it’s not outright stated I believe that such devastating plague like Black Plague would spread far and wide, therefore most likely killing many would be living invaders, or cause even trolls to think twice before attacking in order to not get sick.
    And once the plague was gone. Well. It’s easier to defend mountain passes and repel invasions by the sea. We also don’t know how many norscans died in Marienburg and Wasterlands, could be a lot, and if not then we dunno how long they occupied the city before the empire besiege and forced them out.

    @18:10 The Empire could get soldiers the same way Hungary did after the first Mongolian invasion wiped out half their population: go to the surrounding lands, and offer land and money. In the short term, this would actually be an advantage: the fifth son of some Brettonian peasent now has his own farm, and you can bet he'd gamble with war to keep it instead of dying hungry back home.
    In the long term, bringing in a bunch of people with different languages and cultures would cause massive problems for the state, but not many are going to want to read a Warhammer book about teaching peasants the local laws.
