LONG DESCRIPTION AHEAD:
i don't even know where to begin with this description. i stopped watching greys anatomy at the end of season 10 because it had become unbearable to watch. i never thought the day would come where derek would be killed off. it's a joke, it's a massive joke and shonda has really messed up this time. it was rushed and messy and although i haven't watched the whole episode i've been told the writing was terrible. for a character and a love story which was the heart of the show to have such a badly written and sudden ending is disgusting.
the reason behind his death was shonda and him had a fight of some sort and, as childish and unprofessional as she is, she decided to end his contract (which was still on until the end of season 12) and kill him off. patrick was told barely a month before it happened and i don't think they even knew a couple of episodes ago. it's made me want to forget this show even existed, if i'm honest. i mean meredith has lost literally everyone, whos next shonda? her children?
not only is the death poorly written and unnecessary, but you can bet the aftermath is gonna be terrible too. shonda has never been good at showing post-deaths and i'm sure it's gonna be awful. an 11 year love story gone within a few minutes.
(the voiceovers are a mess. oh well. and it's mainly s1-4 because those were the best)

I cannot understand why Derek needed to die. Why not end the show on Season 10, Cristina pursues her career, Mer and Der go to Boston and everyone else gets on with their lives. THAT was a natural end to their characters. Not this. Not anything that comes after.
Because they're still trying to wring money out of one of their most successful shows
Better yet, end on the 8th season when they aren't interns anymore. Everyone can take the really good jobs at other hospitals and move forward.
Not everything has a happy ending I think this show is more realistic
no, not everything has a happy ending. But I do think that each time the show has to "change" up the story to keep it fresh, it's a sign that it should have ended already. That's happened now a couple of times on Greys. There were a few different natural ends to their storylines, s8, s10 etc and they kept going and while not everything has a happy ending, I feel like killing Derek was a plot device. It didn't feel planned.
If it had ended even in s8, there wouldn't have been the plane crash but you would have seen the interns complete their story of residency, and they would now be equipped to go off to other hospitals and start a new chapter. That's what they would do. But for the sake of the show, they had to make them all come back when that wouldn't have happened and to shake things up enough to keep the story going, they had to crash a plane and only 3 people died?

Derek's death was very unpleasant for me because McDreamy was the one person who i thought after everyone else either died or left, would remain. But he didnt, and I think that they should've just ended the show with Izzie gone, George dead, Christina leaving to go to a better job, and Mer and Der leaving for Boston. Instead of this mess. I cried for so long... so long that I go back and rewatch every episode with Derek. All while im on season 13. But Derek's death also had a plus, Mer and Alex's relationship grew and it is beautiful. Alex is like the new Christina. Also the way he comforts her when she was attacked by a patient in season 12 (I think) made me happy. And I wish that they would of mentioned Derek more, or Mer have more flashbacks...But anyways, sorry this was so long and sappy i just had to say something.
she should have rather ended the show than kill him.. at the beggining i could not get over George's death, then Izzie left, Mark, Lexie, Crstina.. but Derek, that's too much.. :( and he is DEAD, it feels like a total waste of 11 seasons of their relationship :(

i can't begin to descibre how angry and dissapointed i am about what shonda did. It was totally unprofessional. I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE IT.
I really apreciated her, but now...there's no way I'm forgiving her childish move. No more grey's anatomy for me. Merder was the symbol of real life love and their ending is so disrespectful for the fans who have been watching for TEN years this show and fell in love with them instantly. She has killed everyone, and everyone close to meredith has died or left. There's no way a human being can take what meredith has taken.

Shonda is so damn childish, excuse me, just because something happened that didn't go the way she wants, she's firing people. And even if he did show in some way an "attitude", who the hell cares. It's not like Shonda is always on set, pretty much never.
Patrick deserved so much better than these shitty 40 minutes that Shonda gave him. Some things just didn't make sense. Why would anyone park like that on a road. Why would he be looking for his cell if there was no connection up there.
Excuse me, but this is not the way you treat someone that gave you 11 years of his life and made you, Shonda Rhimes, into a household name. Excuse my ass Shonda Rhimes.
This rollercoaster was already only going down after S8. But now, it's gonna crash harder, I think.

So first off I love this. Beautifully edited and shows all that they are, well I guess now it's were. Sob.
I agree with a few things you said in your description, like with Mer and how she's lost everyone and realistically she can't lose anyone else. Also I think his death was very badly done, the actual moment he got hit by a car, I mean. He didn't need to pick up his phone then. He could have done it before he pulled away. But I've been hearing that Patrick wanted time off for a while, after his divorce, so I don't know whether that was what the argument was about or if that's why he left, although I also agree that Shonda can be very unprofessional when it comes to characters leaving. And I've had a feeling for most of season 11 that something major was going to happen. They way they kept doing the montages I knew someone was going to break up or die and then recently they've done so many merder flashbacks and parallels I think I knew but didn't want to admit. But I think greys will be very different without Derek and Cristina and it doesn't really look like it used to, so maybe it will go downhill now? Even so I love this and this song will forever remind me of them now.
Sunny Silhouette it went downhill after mark and lexie and it never recovered. this is the nail in the coffin and NO ONE is happy with the episode or the death.
Don't get me wrong I'm totally outraged by his death and I'm very angry that there wasn't some other way for him to be taken out, if that was even necessary at all.
But I heard slightly different things to you and that he wanted to leave himself so I maybe thought it was sort of his decision be he was unhappy.
And yes it has definitely gone downhill since slexie. All the storylines are mediocre at best and half of them are left open ended or abandoned completely. It feels a lot like it's being written by a new person each week who doesn't know what has happened previously.
i think both of them weren't innocent, but patrick said that it was sudden and that he only found out in march he'd be killed off. obviously he's always had interest to leave but he had signed a contract until season 12. BASICALLY, the whole situation is a mess.

Some people are saying that Shonda fired him because he started showing up late and forgetting lines which was affecting everyone else. People are also saying that the reason that him and his wife got divorced was because he had an affair wit someone on set. He even said that no one threw a goodbye party for him and I think that indicates that he did something pretty shitty...

After watching this breathtaking video, I'm letting myself really feel this pain for the first time. I haven't been watching Grey's Anatomy, and upset as I was when I heard about it I was trying not to dwell. But now I'm in pieces. :( It's not fair. It's not right. I agree with everything you've said about it.
The poor writing really bothers me, and after everything else we've been through. It's too much. Slexie and Crowen are my OTPs, but MerDer is the couple that HAD to stay together. They're the whole point of the show. This has just erased so much history it's awful.

In the beginning there was a tiny tear of joy but at the end I am trying not to break down crying. Good job to whoever made this
Dempsey deserved two things:
1) a two part death in the finale - not just some shitty 'kind of near the end of season but not really' send off ... I mean Lexie got a finale goodbye, and she was there for less than half of the time he was. As did George.
and two) for his death to be orchestrated within the four walls of Grey Sloan. That way, all of the characters could have had their feelings explored in a more intimate way... Amelia could have said goodbye, and Shonda could bring back some season 5 finale déjà vu (undoubtedly one of the greatest finales). But no, instead some characters barely received an insight let alone a thorough exploration into their grief, and Derek was left to wait with what can only be described as utter incompetency ... AN HOUR AND A HALF?! you're kidding...

This has become my favorite MerDer video I've ever watched. And I can say that I agree with everything. I'm 20 now and Grey's Anatomy has been my all time favorite tv show since I was 14. I watched one episode then got all the seasons and binge watched until the new ones and then it just stuck and I became obsessed. But after they killed off Derek I cut myself off from the show and I haven't watched a single episode since his death. It really fucking pissed me off and the show just sucks now. Honestly, I think it's time for it to just end. It was a huge mistake to kill off his character especially since they were the power couple. They went through so much they deserved a happy ending and now it's just absolute shit. I used to encourage people to watch it and I'd try to get my friends friends into it and now everybody that asks me about it I tell them not to watch it at all because it's just a big disappointment. They lost a lot of fans after his death and it was just a stupid, childish and downright pathetic thing to do. Sorry, I just have strong feelings about this.

Your video is so amazing! I forgot how many amazing scenes they had but you just reminded me of them again & it felt so great. Love these two. I'm a few episodes into S11 but unfortunately I got spoiled when looking through some social media. Hearing the news was a shock, but now - seeing how it's been done - it's a double shocker, or triple, I don't know anything anymore tbh. I've always been a huge fan of Grey's despite of the heartbreaking deaths before (gawd, my heart still aches when thinking of them) but killing off Derek just because of some argument - wow. This makes me speechless. Absolute No-Go. It just ruins everything. The scene you put at the end evokes like no emotions which makes me very sad. His character would've deserved so much more. Huge dissappointment, Shonda Rhimes, what can I say. Nonetheless, as I said, you did great with vidding this beautiful couple, you just tooke me down memory lane and I enjoyed it so freakin' much. It's sad how one childish person can ruin people's tv show esperience within 40 mins. However, I'm looking forward to your long MerDer tribute video - my heart's going to break into million pieces though. :)
