In this video I show you a simple way to adjust your rotary or piBurn grip to ensure the top and bottom of your 40oz tumblers are parallel with the gantry on the top and bottom of your tumbler. Gone are the days of eyeballing it. Setup takes two minutes. If you’re engraving these tumblers check out this video.
Note: I forgot to mention in the video it’s best to zero the digital gauge on the honey comb or flat surface that your rotary or grip is setting on before you dial up the bottom of your tumbler.

Love the video! Best explanation on how to level tumbler for full wrap. Thanks you're the best.
Glad it was helpful!
Wow! I came here to learn a thing or two and I learned a lot more than that! Thank you for your videos! Very clear and easy to understand. I appreciate the work you put into it. Thanks.
thanks for the comments!
ALWAYS so helpful!!
Happy to help!
Thank you! This is soooooo helpful! I tried my first wrap on a Stanley Dupe today!😊
oh that’s great, I appreciate the comment and your watching!
Such great content. I am going to save up for that great tool. Thanks so much for sharing. ❤
Awesome! Thank you! it works great!
thanks for sharing the info. great video
You are welcome
I wish I had your setup! 😂 Beautiful tumblers.
Thank you! 😊
Love the video ❤ i feel this method can work with any laser. Thank you!
thanks for watching
great info!!!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the contribution! I really appreciate it
I love all your videos and your one on one training.
Do you have a video on the off brand of these where the handles can’t be removed. Thanks as always
no yet but I will be doing on for the Jds 40 oz with handle. not a wrap.
Hi Robert! Your video is the most thorough and best that I’ve found online. do you think if you ever make another video similar to this that you could show the part where you focus the laser and also were you remove the laser cover? Thanks for all that you do! You are my favorite channel to watch! ❤ i’m still working to overcome this hurdle and get it figured out, but I’m hoping I can get it to work tomorrow. It seems like there’s such a huge distance from the laserhead to the cup even when I angle it. I’m still struggling to get it to focus so that when I run a test run on my blue painter’s tape that the beam shows up correctly as a white graphic on the tape. Sometimes it’s super faded in some areas as though it’s not even registering on the painters tape. I have a Nova 51/130 and my test speed/power is 400/8.
Thank you for your comments, what lens are you using ? if your using the standard 2” lens it can be difficult to get coverage due to the limited focus distance of the 2” I would suggest the 4” it has a longer range of focus. if you need some help I do one on one classes contact me at computercreations@charter.net
Hello Robert. I love your videos. I have a Nova 51-100 and a rotor boss. I tried setting up my 30 ounce tumbler the way you described in your video. However, I can only go 3 in away from my tumbler using the 4-in lens disassembled like you described. Unfortunately, my customer did not provide me with a test tumbler. Do you think that this focus of 3 in will work? Because yours was four and a quarter inches. Or should I keep it at the 3° and use my 2-in nozzle lens at 7 mm focus? Thank you
what size of lens are you using? no being off that much will not provide a good result. if you need some help I do one on one classes. reach out to computercreations@charter.net
Hey Robert, great video! Quick question, how do you deal with the middle part of the tumbler? When we have it focused to the top and bottom, the engraves are perfect but the middle comes out not as clear. Thank you for your help, we appreciate your & your videos
You need to use a lens like a 4” or 2.5” lens that has a larger focus area. 1.5 and 2” lenses have to narrow of a focus range
Robert love your content, thanks for sharing. Question about your setup, i usually focus around 7mm. How are you able to engrave with 4.5" gap? Seems like that would be way out of focus but based on the results its obvious it worked, but how? Thanks again
This is a 4” lens with the nose cone takes off. Normal focus for this 4” lens with the nose cone on is 10mm and I focus to 12mm normally. The only reason I take the nos cone off is so I don’t have to worry about hitting the tabs that the handle attaches to.
So, i theory, if the tumbler doesn't have any tabs to attach any handle at all, I can focus my 4" lens from 10-12mm. Right? Does this work for any tumbler size?
If I have the Boss and the 4” lens from Thunder will the focus, which I think I normally 10mm, be the same as yours, 4 1/4” or do I need the lens and rotor you use. Thank you!
ya I am not sure how the boss lenses work on sizes. if it’s true Lu a 4” lens than yes it should be close
How do you make adjustments for the full wrap to match perfectly? Mine is about 2mm short. If I just change my image size and circumference to be 2mm longer it didn’t change. Is there another step?
Either adjust your steps per rotation or widen you image but not both
Wonderful information. May I ask where you find your designs for purchase?
some here and all over Etsy or do my own. www.2a3dprint.com/laser-files
So I'm confused by what a 35-100 watt laser is. I have an xtool 20 watt and I know it's just 20 watts. Does the 35-100 mean it's variable? I understand the leveling of the top and bottom but what about the hills and valleys in between since the height wouldn't be consistent.
No the naming convention for Thunder laser are the first number is the width of the engraving bed 35.5” wide and the 100 is the wattage of the laser. Thunders are always 10% over the rated wattage. Hope that clarifies that for you. Here is their site. Thunderlaserusa.com
Can you provide a link to that specific lens you have. I have the thunder 4" lens. Would it be similar focus to yours
if you have a 4” thunder lens no need to get another just measure from the lens and not the housing lip.
I dont have a 4" lense. what would you focus a 2" lense at for a 100w thunder?
you will hit the tabs if you use a 2” lens with the nose cone
What is your speed and power?
400mm/s 35% power .08 lpi
What type of lens are you using? I’ve been using a 4 in lens on my nova 51 for these tumblers and getting mixed results.
4” for these kind of tumbler 1.5 or 2” for flat engraving. Most issues you will see on the nova series are just improper mix of settings I do all of my tumblers on my 35-100 at 400 mm/s at 30% power defocused based on tumbler clean up with dawn shower scrub
Would the same apply to the rotoboss line?
Yes, It shouldnt matter what rotary you have
Hi Robert,
Where are you sourcing the 40 oz tumblers?
hey John I’m finding what ever I can on Etsy in what color I need. all the popular colors can be thought to get.
Would this work for 30 oz tumblers as well? Great video
the concept would be the same, just do the measurements and confirm the angle in Libhtburn . then your good to go!
I don't have all that fancy stuff so I just eyeball it and it works out well! I've done done a 32oz and 30oz and 20oz and they all work out. Just my two cents worth!
Do you think this will work with a stemless wine tumbler?
Allot of It cettainly could just depends on how big the sweeps are on the glass
So, how do you compensate for the smaller surface area of the tapered tumbler without it getting skewed? I can’t figure this part out…assuming of course I’m using a pattern meant for a perfect cylinder.
You may be overthinking it. There are hundreds if not thousands of templates on Etsy and other site for 40 oz full wraps and they all are straight rectangles. I’ve don’t my fair share of these and have never adjusted for the taper
@@computercreationz that’s incredibly encouraging to hear. TY for posting that reply.
do you have a link for that meter by chance?
Link is in the description of the video
excuse my ignorance, newbie here. I have xTool P2 and use their software xTool Creative space. I have not yet ventured into Lightburn. I wouldn't have a clue how to make this file in XCS. Do you sell your tilted template file? I would be willing to purchase a SVG from you because my dupe dimensions are the same.
I guess what I am asking is: How does the laser understand the difference in the circumference of the top vs the bottom of the tumbler when you are doing a full wrap?
do you have a link to the 4" lens you are using? I checked their site and I am not seeing it
give them a call and ask the for what your looking for they will help you out. there site is not easy to find lenses on
Is there a way to figure out the 3* angle without this tool?
Lots of ways to do this, this one made the most sense to me!
with this grip fit in an omtech polar?
I’m sorry I can’t answer that
How do you get such clean lines? I have a 51/100w thunder, and my lines look scorched. I am using a lower power and mm/s, should I speed it up?
I have the same wattage as you and I do almost all of my engraving at 400mm/s at 30-35%power .08lpi amd 1-2 mm out of focus
@@computercreationz the cups I used were painted, not powder coated. I had to go down to 10% power. Thank you for replying, I usually use the same settings that you do for powder coated.
Hold up did you attach the grip on the opposite side?
the grip should be on the right hand side
Can you do one on the chuck rotary? Pit burn or rotoboss? The method you’re using doesn’t work with the chuck rotaries
I use this process on my PiBurn Grip all the time
@@computercreationz Hmmm I wonder why it isn't working with the talon.
When you say isn’t working what does that mean? @@justbeachydesigns
@@computercreationzit works for the most part but where the drop happens is closer than the focal of the rest of the tumbler so it doesn’t engrav properly
This work with a 30 oz Stanley on the bolt as well?
The angle will be different. If it’s a regular 30 oz tumbler just use a level
@@computercreationz the 30os Stanley with the hard angle. I eye balled it worked out 👌
@@rykus2010 good to hear!
I'm using a 40watt S1 and I cannot for the life of me get it to come out right on real Stanley 40oz
keep in mind this was don’t on a 100 watt co2 gantry laser
Stainless steel cups shouldn’t have a magnetic stick to them
that’s not True!
