Hi Alex from Western Australia. Negotiation should always be first, I think and the Ivy (personally hate the plant) will strangle, kill the trees and might fall over in a big storm. This garden is a garden of discovery, at least the spiders aren’t Australian spiders 😮. You don’t need to go to the gym, this garden is a muscle builder. Fantastic work you’re doing. Keep well. Lynn.

I am right there with you. I am in Southern BC Canada and the bane of my existence is pine needles. 40 billion of them in my yard. Good news is that all I have to do is rake them. No digging out required although I did think English Ivy was a good idea a few years ago. Not! It took over and I'm still ripping it out. Thanks for the tips on how best to tackle the stuff. It is pretty and green but INVASIVE for sure. Thanks for the awesome videos. Really enjoy how you do your job. It really is an art. Hard work, but stunning results. Cheers!

This video is great, it's made me realise how much work I've done as I was feeling like I wasn't getting anywhere. My 90 year old mum has a 120foot garden that hasn't been touched for twenty years, and I've been attempting to landscape it and make it accessible for her. I discovered she had put down black membrane years ago which she'd then covered in old tiles and stones and general rubbish, and it's been one hell of a job to get half a foot of heavy rubbish and soil off a membrane so I could pull it out. Underneath was masses of bindweed.

You must be so sore. That is an intense workout. I admire your work ethic. Most landscapers would either refuse the job or start it and just give up. You are truly tenacious and are an an inspiration. I am sure that the owners are worried about cost but in my opinion you are worth a million dollars or pounds (whichever is more)! They have to compensate you to rectify years and years of neglect. May God bless you and keep you safe and healthy.

I cut back Ivey on a rent house I was living in in Tulsa. It’s a never ending battle if you don’t dig up the roots. I enjoyed doing it even though I had decided not to buy the beautiful bungalow. The Ivey had been buried there in the 60’s & the roots were as big as my arm. As long as the neighbor keeps the Ivey on the fence, it’ll be an ongoing problem. The only saving grace is that it will one day rot the fence & when they replace it, maybe they can dig it up

I consider ivy a weed. It climbs all over fences, trees, even up the side of our house if we let it. It can look quite pretty and it’s fine if you want a jungle in the back garden but it will strangle things and become a part of / destroy a fence. Species like this are a problem when two neighbours have opposing views because such species do not respect boundaries.

Every single bit of it on my side of the fence. Neighbour watched me do it too. Then started getting upset a few days later when he noticed it dying on his side. It was an invasive species and was told by the town to kill it off and dog it up but he refused. I just kept cutting it back. HI Alex, you've got a christmas dilemma "the holly and the ivy", where's your partner in crime? Some good fire wood there. Maybe if you trim too much ivy the fence will collapse. Then I'm thinking if you turf that area that will require ongoing maintenance, perhaps better for the owner to leave it bare or to mulch it with a really thick layer of wood chips, as for gardening not being a work out can have only been said by someone who has never done it, 🥰🥵👍💪🐦great effort cheers!!

I'm a gardener who works for a company and those sort of jobs are the worst. Very time consuming and hard work. I know how you feel 👍
