      @@marigoldbeam5475 it is good to visit as much as you can. However, the price points are not reflective of the Zimbabwean salaries so majority of citizens might never visit these places. Chundu is minimum US$480 per person per night yet the workers get on average US$200 per month

    • @marigoldbeam5475
      @marigoldbeam5475 Před rokem +4

      @@fidelist I don't think the point is to attract mass tourism of the lower scale. That little island paradise wouldn't last a year as a low cost tourism destination. It would be trashed by the high footfall with issues like people dropping litter; backpackers drinking, drug taking and carousing, and the other usual degradation of the environment by the more selfish of our species. It's best to keep it exclusive, in my opinion. However, if your figures are correct the workers salaries need to be raised either through direct government mandate or through consumer power. If particular resorts are known to not pay workers a fair wage this can be an influencing decision in where you spend your money as a consumer. Workers need to make that information known through direct or indirect means and consumers who care will direct their custom to alternative hotels or lodges in Mosi-oa-Tunya/Vic Falls. On the flip side I doubt hotel workers in Zanzibar are well paid. It is an exploitative industry in general, that isn't particular to any one country. Some of the most exclusive hotels in places like London and New York are run on cheap, usually immigrant labour. I am not saying Zimbabwe should be the same, but I am pointing out that pointing people away from a business in Zimbabwe that is providing employment to a similar business in Zanzibar does not help the workers in Zimbabwe at all, but you are well aware of that and perhaps that is just your point, to slate the competition...

      @earthlycitizen2155 Před rokem +2

      @Esther Vanda, you are so funny. Firstly to get to the island, lions would have to swim in the water but as you know, lions (any cat for that matter) hate water, they don't swim in water. Even if they did, there are crocs in the water which would deal with the lions immediately. So all those were taken into consideration when that island resort was established. There are a lot of islands along the Zambezi, but some were not considered as resorts because hippos and crocs are occassional residents of those islands. So this particular island was established after carefully studying animal behavior patterns, the depth of the water/ elevation from river bed, vegetation etc. Animals like crocs and hippos require certain conditions that attract them to a land mass. As for lions, don't worry about them on that island. Infact chances of you being attacked by a lion in your house are much higher than being attacked on that island
