It’s gotten to the point were I get excited for Dave Meltzer’s ratings because I can’t wait for you two to react to them.
Meltzer math is like playjng D&D. -2.5 stars for women. +2 stars for NJPW. +3.5 for Will, Elite or Danielson. +2 for heat. +8 if he has a hotdog

@@mattp1224 I could have said 4, but Meltzer really appreciates when a dog is 12 inches as advertised. We all learned that during a retro star guessing. As Steve said, “Meltzer went glizzy overdrive” before Big Show Vs Cody.
It's nothing like D&D the number's make way more sense then melts math a 4 is a 5 and a 6 is a 4 so a 4.45 is also a 5 i am so glad this man is not a accountant

Meltzer works in a vortex - rates a promotion's matches high, then talks about how highly rated they are as a way to make a general point that the "wrestling is better."
It is a lot like going on Yelp and rating your own restaurant, then telling people how beloved the restaurant is. The place is rarely busy, the food is okay, service is terrible, and a negative public reputation has formed - all of it being very apparent with results that track. But you know, best restaurant ever. A true gourmet burger shack.

Way I see Meltzer's star ratings is this: It's not 0-5 stars, it's 0-7, until such a time where he feels there's a better match that the 7* Okada vs Omega match.

Show was off to an awesome start, fell off a cliff after the Toni-Deeb match.
Last three matches were amazing though especially being there live
It picked back up eventually, but yeah, that middle three matches were just not it at all

Dave seemingly, doesn't care about the story, or the build or anything besides...how was the work rate and was the crowd hot. This is why every aew match "minus women" is a floor of like 3 1/4....unless it's a Jericho match.🤷♂️

Wrestling fans will never be happy.
A company puts on a bad show and the fans jump all over them for 'putting on garbage' etc
AEW put on a good show with DON and fans are complaining that Meltzer has overrrated some of the matches.
People saying the Ospreay match is overrated - seriously? It was a geat match. Of course its gonna be rated well. Unless the booking of the match veered completely away from what Will and Roddy always do - put on solid/excellent wrestling matches - then this match was always going to deliver and be scored accordingly.
Sure Meltzer likes what he likes and will sometimes favour scoring some matches a little higher - but thats just his opinion - does it really matter if Meltzer scores a 4.5 star worthy match as a 5 star? No. Not really. A good match is a good match.
If you dont like Meltzer - fine. But hes just one guy with one set of opinons and you dont have to agree with him.
But people who get upset at him rating a good match highly, thats just silly.
Wrestling fans will find any reason to complain.
So the schtick here is that these guys make fun of Meltzer because he's biased in favor of AEW, instead of being like them, or biased against AEW.
