Brings to mind Rev'd Tony Campolo: :“I have three things I'd like to say today. First, while you were sleeping last night, 30,000 kids died of starvation or diseases related to malnutrition. Second, most of you don't give a s###. What's worse is that you're more upset with the fact that I said s### than the fact that 30,000 kids died last night.”

We have spent the last century throwing money at the poor, 'leveling the playing field', jumping at any pretense of offering more handouts...enough. Enough with the whining and excuses. At some point, you do what you do. It's a tough world. Only two things suffice.....luck, and strength. We have the option of choosing the second. We should do so. And if our 'poor' can't afford to dress the same as their more prosperous peers...if they have to drive jalopies...live in hovels...eat a Spartan diet...too bad. The strength and prosperity of the nation is what matters.

@@suepall5425 Forgiveness is not forgetfulness despite what entity you are talking of. I hardly think that God was thinking of the United States of America or democracy as the Bible was written. That said, the Bible is mostly all about what is good and what is bad behavior in thought, word, and deed; that good 'ole Book includes thought which is more troublesome than deed for us mortals just trying to create a comfortable life for ourselves down here on earth. What you consider immoral, others consider a not a moral but also a spiritual imperative. Some Muslims consider thier interpretation of thier book's laws/ commandments to be so necessary that they cannot live side by side those they consider infidels; and they are willing to die for it. Well, Christain and Jewish folks come from the same part of the world and formalized in the same general-ish time frame and origins as the Muslims. It would seem that a number of folks of similar belief with respect to turning the world around them into thier vision of religious righteousness are working thier way through our civil laws and form of governance. - Have you noticed that "all the things" Bin Laden spoke of are noticeably similar to the life codes professed by a number trying to change laws and lifestyles in the US; probably elsewhwhere too but Im Amurican enough that I'm relatively ignorant of all that isn't Amurican. - These folks are so hell bent for election on single issues and the result that they are willing to sacrifice the intent and lessons of the Bible for thier perceived rules of the Bible; in a twist of the screw, of course this is based upon my interpretation of the Bible. Thier godly souls rely on it. And hence I do invoke: Forgive them Father for they know not what they do.

At 29, I re-engaged and the only Sacrament I needed was Confirmation, which was a '1 on 1' with the Priest of our Parish over several weeks. He was a Black man that was a child during the height of the Civil Rights movement and remembered segregation.
He said the N word and other slurs that were lobbed at him and his family and others like him,it was shocking but we knew he doing it to teach us about society back then.
And there were some parents that were angry after they learned about it at this predominantly White charter school that he used words the kids probably heard from the complaining parents themselves.
Kind of reminded of this, more outrage that he repeated words that he was attacked with than the fact that he had to repeat them to highlight who we were as a nation.

I saw the other side of this in Stephen Colbert's monologue last night. Colbert, a devout Catholic was excited about being able to visit the Pope as part of a delegation of comedians. He also admitted to a little dismay that Pope Francis had used an Italian slur against homosexuals. Colbert made it clear that his frustration was because he had held Francis in high esteem, probably higher than other popes. One could easily say that "God uses imperfect people" could be expanded to include the Pope. That doesn't mean that some of us shouldn't hope for better from the people we admire.

It would be a really wonderful thing if people REALLY knew "God". "God" and who we ALL really are, is inseparable. Religions teach that "God" is some kind of entity separate from us and that is not true. I had a profound NDE where all things human fell away and all there was was Pure Awareness, Pure Consciousness, total unity, ALL ONE, no divisions. It was pure unconditional Love, acceptance, welcome, compassion and zero judgements. "I" merged with the pure Light of BEING and remembered who we ALL are. This knowing that I came back with is what I call "God". Religions teach people of various types of god's but they are all projections of the human egoic mind and are made in the human egoic mind's imagery. In Truth, there are zero judgements, zero rewards and zero punishments handed out. There are no hells and no heavens that we are sent to after we "die". In the NDE I saw that Hell is not knowing who we are and I saw that all evil arises out of not knowing who we are, out of divisions and the belief we are separate. Heaven is KNOWING who we really are but this knowing is not conceptual, through the mind. If everyone could suddenly know who we ALL are, all wars would end, all suffering would end.

The reason why I decided to be non denominational at an early age was because I kept finding man-made rules getting slipped in as "God's will" when it really wasn't. There's already a system for people to force other people to bend to their will, it's called government. To have another government, except one built on blasphemy wasn't my cup of tea. Surely God wouldn't approve of people usurping His power! But here we are. I know that _I_ can't serve two masters at once, so it has to be "Trump _or_ God" not "Trump _and_ God".

When I was an active Jew, my Rabbi would occasionally drop a curse word or two, although not in the presence of children. But then, he was a farrier before converting and I defy anyone who has had a 1200 lb horse stand on your foot, or break one of your ribs, to refrain from cursing.
I'm not sure how it works in other religions, but the term "Rabbi" merely means "teacher." He or she is not someone who is viewed as a saint or extremely holy (but there are a few Jewish offshoots that do that); a Rabbi is a man/woman like any other, just more knowledgeable about our rather complicated religion than the average Jew.
Rabbi's oldest son (18) even declared himself an atheist. It didn't phase Rabbi at all. He was proud of his son, who did as his father taught him (and us), to not be afraid to question your faith. If your religion can't stand up to your questioning, then it's probably not right for you.
As far as salty language, well, my dad was in the Navy in WW 2 (Japan) and then later became a cop. So I grew up with colorful language. I also studied psychology in college, to become a therapist one day, and we were given exercises to desensitize us to curse words, etc. Needless to say, I understood that assignment.
Now, as far as I can see it, there are only a handful of perfect beings in this world, who embody love and empathy: Jimmy Carter, Betty White, Dolly Parton, Tom Hiddleston....and dogs. Those are who I try to emulate.

So a man of God used a naughty word. Reverend Trevors, I think you are in good company. Let me tell you a little story. When I was in college I took a class about the Apostle Paul from a professor who was a New Testament Greek scholar. He said in Philippians 3:8 when Paul was writing about legalistic religious practices he uses the Greek word skubalon which if it was translated into our modern English the word would be "horse shit." Somehow I don't think if Paul is among that great crowd of heavenly witnesses, that is looking at the Maga movement who proclaims Trump "The Chosen One" would express his displeasure in words like, "Well, gosh, golly, darn those guys." Hang in there Reverend.

Atheist and English major here. My personal philosophy is that there's no such thing as a bad word, just bad timing. I happen to have family friends, dating back to my childhood, who happen to be deeply devout Dutch Reform Christian farmers. I've heard them say sh*t many times, because it's a common word for that which their vocation has required them to shovel their entire lives. However, I've also heard them use a few other common "curse" words - sparingly, but when the situation warranted ... very much in keeping with my own aforementioned philosophy. What I've NEVER heard them use is ANY word that flouts the Third Commandment. So while we may have a different spiritual outlook (and I do flout the Third on occasion), what I've always loved and respected about this family is their adherence to their faith without being unnecessarily judgmental of others or prudish about propriety. I've always tried to follow their example. Love thy neighbor - it's that simple.

There have been a few others here locally also but I found your videos first on CZcams and began my journey of reaching out. Your WORDS - comforting, encouraging, uplifting, spirited WORDS - gave me courage and helped me claw my way back to Him. I don't care what the words are. It's the intention behind those words that brought me hope. Thank you two for your words of hope, encouragement, peace and love. Whatever they may be that helps gets your message across to us listeners, please keep those words coming.

I was caught up in life stuff when the original news of the chanting on the 6th at the Phoenix rally, but it reminds me of an observation in 2017 once Trump was in the Oval office, how he would routinely embarrass the principle cabinet and Repulican officials or require that they show extreme reverence. (The June 2017 meeting comes to mind, in which all his cabinet in turn lavished him with compliments and thanked him for the privilege to serve).
And this reminds me of a recurring theme in the Arthurian tales of adventurous knights, who would be tempted by fairy folk to commit misdeeds (typically breaking hospitality rules or betraying their own liege lord, or killing their own family) with the promise of a treasure or a land or a pretty fairy maiden. Once the wickedness was done, the prize would be spoiled. In the case of the fairy maiden, she'd turn into a hideous hag, and then gladly brag to his court to all who would hear about how she tricked him into marrying her.
The similarity between legends and Trump reality were convincing enough that I wonder if there's a correlation, if Tartuffean characters have always been a recurring problem in human society.

Used to go to a AA meeting in a little rural church. The minister started attending regularly. He was asked once if he would like to speak and he declined, said he wasn't an alky. Everybody said that didn't matter he'd became part of the group. He said the reason he came, was to try to transfer the community spirit of the group he felt on Monday nights to his Sunday morning flock minus the rough language.

There’s no getting away from it. It's the same rationale that develops in some cults, where the male members can have only one wife, and the wife must be faithful to her husband, BUT the cult leader can have multiple wives and/or sleep with any woman he wants in the group, including other men's wives. The leader is exceptional in their eyes and therefore gets treated with exceptions. And that is the rationale. Period.
