    I don't think this could even be called cheese, honestly. It strikes me as a perfectly viable in-universe tactic. That said, in reality it'd probably only work a few times before Imperial admirals caught on, whereas the AI will always fall prey to this. Regardless, good shout, Eck! Until a sequel is released this is THE Star Wars game. Squadrons is fun. But nothing has more game hours on my steam account. I can't go back to the original game. This is true. But mods like Remake, Thrawn's Revenge, and Fall of the Republic are like new games in of themselves. The remake in particular updates the game engine by a decade. Impressive for a free mod. Sure it crashes from time to time but like you said the game is 14 years old. There are no other RTS themed star wars games EA refused to do Empire at War 2. You can only modify games like Sins and Stellaris to force the Star Wars theme.

      @@JIMvc2 It's true. If I saw a rebel destroyer warp into space as long as my fleet holds the shipyards they can play in space all day from a distance I will watch but not move. Only an idiot would command his entire fleet to chase after the ship and leave the shipyards undefended. At the very least he would divert some ships from his fleet to engage the vessel while the rest defended. Don't forget just because the movies showed Imperial ignorance that these men all studied space engagement and theory for at least 4 years before graduating 2nd LT. The problem was the pursuit of power and self advancement. An admiral would simply refuse to help another imperial fleet if he felt he would gain from his peers death. Where as the Rebel cells had no reason to not help each other. The problem lay with the mindset of Imperial officers brought up in a society in which they were led to believe superiority in all things. There were a few who held high position because of family name or friendships but for the most part the Imperial academies churned out great quality officers well versed in their craft.

    I always moved my bombers far from the fight, waited for the enemy fighters to engage themselves with the main force, then picked off the nastiest ship's engines (or hangers of carriers if playing modded), if the bombers survived long enough I'd set them to removing shields of said ships, by this time my main force would have dealt with any ship I hadn't taken out the engines of (or, at the very least, given a good account for myself), and if I was still alive at this point I'd do what I could to take out the remaining vessels. This only works on big maps enough to actually pull these maneuvers off but the huge fleets I've managed to cripple or force to retreat using only a mid-tier station turned the tide of many games.

To address this, I made a raiding fleet of 20 TIE Defender Squadrons, and sent them against the nearest New Republic worlds to keep them off balance and to delay them. In Fall of the Republic, my go-to method for securing my borders is to…
    1) Move all ships away from my interior worlds and to the nearest border planets.
    2) Move armies to border planets as well.
    3) Begin building anti-orbital weapons on those planets and economy structures/stations on interior worlds.
    4) Begin churning out Arquitens class ships and Corellian corvettes/consular corvettes/etc. Place 10-20 of each placed at border worlds and begin consolidating original border fleets into larger fleet groups.
    5) Attach Heroes to Fleet Groups and put them on the offensive. Have Arquitens/Corvette Wolfpacks hold border worlds with support from ground based guns. Arquitens can outrun anything they can’t outfight and gang up on faster pursuers, corvettes can fend off missiles and fighter attacks. Have them fly back and forth across the map in one massed group to outrun larger enemy ships and pick them off.
    Doesn’t always work. Sometimes a fleet is just too big or AI path finding causes some ships to utterly go in the wrong direction or get stuck. But for the most part this allows me to hold onto planets against all but the most ludicrously big enemy fleets (like with tons of Lucrehulks that can tank 12+ cannon shots)

I'd also use it to kite defenses away from stations, then drop in a few squadrons of TIE Defenders or B-Wings to knock out the station's hangar and neutralize their garrison. About half the time the bombers would have time to knock out the shield generator too.
    Of course, this meant that the game got so easy that I had to look up mods lol

      Good tactic when you have the credits mid campaign. Playing as Rebels, Early campaign I'd use missile cruisers to take out the stations hanger and shields, all the while closely guarded by the main fleet of few heavy and light cruisers, corvettes and gunships. The few fighters and bombers are just back up. This works too with the empire but there is a danger of capital ships getting flanked with their narrow gun arcs and low armor.

    New version, I'm kinda happy with. Nebula is actually useful. But the carriers have such a miniscule fighter capacity now that it's just daft. The hand Athonia class, a carrier, now only has one fighter squad (which means its a low threat now, so I'm thankful), but the Quasar has lost 18 fighters which has screwed me over because that's 12 Y wings and 6 A wings I don't now have. Quasar spam still works because of population, but more ships means more chaos. But, you win some and lose some, so hey ho. Hopefully, the next patch changes it to more meaningful fighter numbers.

What I did was I sent a diamond cruise or a very close to their flights position where it caught the attention of about four or five Corvettes when I turned around and brought them back to the main fleet which destroyed them. Kill the octuples and quads first, as that's where most of the ISD damage comes from. 2-3 bomber squadrons is usually enough to kill a single hardpoint in one salvo. Also, make sure you switch which hardpoint you target slightly before the first one dies. If a hardpoint dies after shots are fired at it, those shots are wasted, which is a pretty big deal if you're relying on a 30-second bomber reload.
    Also, your 5 assault frigates and dauntless weren't shooting the secutor after you brought them in, since you never right clicked on the secutor itself. They got distracted by the fighters. You should really save your frigate punch for the flanking ISDs, and hamstring the isolated secutor with bombers, kind of the reverse of what you did in the second example. Once you split up the enemy, you need to target precisely.

    You should also do ground battles too, for example, when using lightsaber heroes, press attack and then press the movement behind infantry so the attack animation plays and so you mow down infantry faster and the cloak doesn't turn off (at least for luke) for fall of the republic I am not as aggressive, because b1 battlegrounds are easy to kill anyway and there are alot of counters to Jedi there (like the rocket tank...).

    To remove upkeep costs, keep your fleets over enemy planets. That way you can snowball and mass with no upkeep.
    Also, drop off a fighter or some tiny corvette off at enemy major shipyards after you win them. Any space unit, even a single xwing, will stop the enemy from building anything in space too.

  • @mistreme8341
    @mistreme8341 Před 3 lety

    Rebel attack should make heavy use of fighters. I’ve knocked out bigger Imp fleets than this by doing a three phased attack. First phase, drop the gunship and keep it outlying and away from the slower star destroyers. Use x-wings or a hero if mass driver or super laser weapons are in effect. Keep a corvette scout in play at all times. You can supplement with missile cruisers if you have them. They are murder on tie fighters! 2nd phase, drop x-wing and y-wings behind main destroyer fleet. Use a-wings and B-wings instead if you have them. Sweep in with with bombers vanguarded by fighters and take out all shields and docking bays. When these are neutralized, phase 3 should be to then drop in heavy cruisers and the imp cruisers will melt like wax in a bonfire! Works almost every time. It gets sticky however when they have missile boats in play too as they are great defense against fighters.

  • @BatsofPrey
    @BatsofPrey Před 4 lety

    My strategy for most the mods is to create a massive fighter ship fleet. About a good 20 or so fighter squads should do.
    Then i get a majority of ships that are large carriers and tons of small dreadnaughts.
    I'll usually set the commanding officer as the wayfinder scout because it ensures he'll be in the back of the fleet and based on my enemies fleet i can figure which ships need to be dropped first.
    I always drop all the fighter squads i can so i'll the 20 or so i made along side anywhere from 10-30 fighter squads and bombers from my carriers.
    I then send all my fighters and bombers towards the enemy fleet always ignoring their fighters as we launch all missiles at command ships and capital ships destroying their shields, engines, and hangerbays.
    No with their more powerful ships dead in the water the enemy fleet will only be able to charge with their weaker ships.
    Since by this point a lot of fighters have died i send the survivors back and ill have more already respawned from my carriers. Usually brings you back to the fighter size when u started.
    Now i have my fighters pick off theirs as they wont be respawning with no hangers.
    By now their main fleet has reached mine except those that have no engines. This usually means they come like 1 or 2 at a time so i can have all my dreadnaughts up front taking out whole frigates in mere seconds with focus firing.
    I rarely end up losing ships and when i do its almost never command ships and usually corvettes or a frigate or two.
    I prefer this strategy because i essentially have two fleets the fighter fleet and the main fleet.

    • @BatsofPrey
      @BatsofPrey Před 4 lety

      Also i feel like this strategy is really good especially the first time you showed it. Being able to spawn in right behind them and blast their engines is like a dream come true. Altough I'm not a fan of the idea of "sacrificing" ships even if they are "free" ships mainly cause like you said the AI cheats so for me every ship i lose is equal to dozens of ships lost. I cant spawn a whole new fleet in like 2 minutes but it feels like the AI can so if im constantly sacrificing then im only hurting myself. But im def gonna give this a try when best applicable❤👍

    TBH this is exactly what I started doing as the rebels. I would bring in lots of small ships as a lure, then bring in my larger capital ships on a single, isolated ship, take it down before other ships can turn around and react, then annihilate that one poor ship and run. I would slowly chip away at defenses until there was nothing left and I could just waltz in.

    i see what your talking about and i like it and is very rebel/ new republic but i like to put all my ship at the every end every close to each other so their gun and hit box are over lapsing in a very defense stance. and do to how the AI work where they lock on to ship one by one and not in a fleet when they go and attack you they will arrive one by one or in small group that you can mange. this don't work every time as their might be to many ship in reserve that hyperspace right on you to deal with or not enough ship on your part then if you can retreat do it. some battle are just not winnable so if you can retreat do it and don't waste ship in bad fight
