- The official promo video for 'Some Like It Hot' by The Power Station.
It was the first single released from the group's 1985 eponymous debut album, released by Parlophone Records in 1985. It was the band's biggest hit, peaking at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. The video featured the transgender model Caroline Cossey, also known as Tula.
The Power Station was a supergroup featuring Robert Palmer, John Taylor and Andy Taylor from Duran Duran and Tony Thompson from Chic.

The rhythm section in this song is insane. Tony Thompson & John Taylor had this shit locked down.
Was Andy high on coke? He's not playing more than one note most of the time.
John Taylor is probably the most underrated bass player of all time!
@@synthonaplinth5980 Judging by his and John Taylor's autobiographies, the answer to your question is: Yes!

Yeah. Locked down.
Robert Palmer, the James Bond of rock music. Sublime.
Such a sexy fella!
Now that is well said.

I never knew this was Robert Palmer leading the song
Perfect Title!
The Power Station...quite possibly the most underrated band of the 80s. Great drums. Fantastic Bass and lead guitar! And of course the incomparable voice and class of Robert Palmer. Coolest guy of the 80s!
Nonsense. NOT underrated.
power station es la repich, es lo mejor lastima que no se pudo mas
John Taylor's an amazing bass player always did a great job in Duran Duran and Arcadia
that means everyone you know has below average musical taste; may i suggest aligning yourself with more intelligent people?
What a tour that would have been if Robert Palmer had toured with DD. Have Robert Palmer open with his solo work, then DD and then end with Power Station.
Tony beating those drums like they owe him MONEY!!
Ok 😂😂😂😂😂
Tony Thompson beat those drums like they owed him money.
Lmao!!
+Darrin Baker AAAHHH! Freak Out!!!!!!
+Darrin Baker The percussion in this song is bonkers. Just bonkers.
+phuturephunk It's a recording technique called "gated drum" that's responsible for the amazing drum sound. It's a techniques used in a lot of songs, but "Some Like it Hot" by Power Station, and "In The Air Tonight" by Phil Collins are the songs most often cited as examples. "Bennie and the Jets" By Elton John also has a fantastic sounding gated effect on the drums.
+74jrh3 interestingly, it was one of the Taylors that did the percussion (rototom) overdubs, not Thompson.
Taylor nailed this killer bass line. Thompson with that funk on the drums is awesome. Andy ripped that guitar solo. Roberts vocals are incredible.
and, my favorite part is Robert Palmer dressed in a Priest outfit. 😆 That's epic.
Actually, Taylor didn't come up with this bass line. Bernard Edwards created it, and John mimicked it, just like his solo on "Get it on". I was so disappointed when I discovered that. But John is still really good.
@@KingJin726 but ironically, that's normal. It's often the Producer or director who creates the sound which we're familiar with. It's still disappointing always, though.

Robert virtually make it FEEL HOT! ❤
Literally a highly rated singer. Can we PLEASE stop calling every goddamned thing underrated?
There will NEVER be another Powerstation. The world feels so empty now 😢❤
People forget how great a vocalist Robert Palmer was.
Not a chance, he was class.

He was fierce
i thought he was a good singer but he didn't have Palmer's tone or range. I'm surprised he even agreed to try that.@@jonstefanik9400

Fucked up how both passed in 2003. R.I.P. Robert and Tony. You left us with a bombastic track! Peace.
The tack is nothing without the duran duran guys
@@pencilsharpener4449 I think they were both in their early 50s. I think Palmer was 54 years old. I remember thinking, "Wow! He was still youthful, could sing, and didn't seem at all sick. That's too young." My Mom liked him a lot, and was sad to hear of his passing, that day. Tony Thompson's drumming was unique and still revered, though missed on The 21st Century charts.

TOTALMENTE DE ACUERDO, SALUDOS PARA TI Y TU FAMILIA DESDE QUITO-ECUADOR.
I once met Robert Palmer, quite by accident on a day out in North Yorkshire. A lovely bloke who never forgot his Yorkshire roots.
Do you actually know how many roots he had in Yorkshire?
I'm proper chuffed to hear that. Great Singer and I've always imagined him to be a decent fella. See- I can get somethings right! 😂
RIP: Power Station
You kept the Death Star alive for as long as you could.
i have to say this Robert Palmer really was one guy with just pure swag
Richard Noel
My Man KNEW how to rock a suit! He kept his hair in order as well. SWAG to the MAX! I remember the day he died. I was shocked! I remember him singing "Riptide", the title of the album that contained the hit song "Addicted to Love". When that song came out EVERYBODY was blown away. Handsome man backed by several beautiful women each playing a guitar. The song was great and the video of the handsome Palmer in a crisp white shirt, black tie and black pants with gorgeous women in black was tooooo much and the driving bass no doubt helped propel this song to greatness. You couldn't turn on the radio without hearing this song.
Those were the days...
definition of swag
Look, I'm in my 20s thinking he was mad swagged out back in the day
That face expression makes it look like he's talking to an insect and you should leave immediately.
He looked like he never owned a baseball cap
Bass line in this song is awesome but John with Duran Duran playing That bass line in 'Rio' is incredible. Completely underrated bass player.
Nikki Sixx once asked, on his Twitter feed, for people to name some great bassists. I immediately submitted John Taylor’s name. Nikki agreed. John is an underrated bassist
Most people know how great of a bass player JT is
Yes. Every DD song is bass driven. His bass lines are sick and he’s totally underrated.
the mans bass lines are something else!...how can you not want to move your feet to this....you have to be dead or have no rhythm

HE's prolific certainly not the best... He stated That Bernard Edwards of Chic and producer of the album had to put him through the most grueling and humbling Bass drills which he came out a better player.
John Taylor is one of the most underrated bassists, maybe ever!

SHOCKING FACT:
Andy Taylor was a guitarist, songwriter, and producer for Robert Palmer, Rod Stewart, Paul Rodgers, Belinda Carlisle, and dozens of other gold-selling artists. He is considered one of the finest guitarists amongst industry insiders.
