    Hey, I can tell by some of the comments that many of you aren't familiar with the DOF adapter setup (yes, it vignettes! haha, but that is easily minimized), and as mentioned I'm working on some other videos - but in the meantime I decided to record a podcast episode about this and do a detailed blog post with the pros/cons of using it along with a few tips and best practices. So for those interested you can check all that out on my website here... www.iphoneographers.tv/post/my-love-hate-relationship-with-the-beastgrip-dof-adapter. Hope you find it helpful! -BC

      It feels like there is some kind of softness, like it's never quite completely in focus... Is this the case? Or is it the lens being dirty or just some sort of post process thing?

      I agree, but I do see this being really interesting for someone who doesn't have a dslr and got a 12 pro with a phone contract. In that use case scenario, all they need is to spend like 500 more dollars and they have a fully functional dslr camera + photo studio + post processing computer + internet + phone. Mean while ive spend 2000 on a dslr camera a few hundred on lenses and have an iPhone. The begin from zero crowd, is gonna save thousands.

Slap an anamorphic on that and a good stabilizing gimble, preferable a pro gimble and you have all you need for film. Many current music videos and some short films are being shot on these with pro lighting set ups. Im sorry, but the "dslr" "pro footage" you're speaking of is not "pro" either. Unless your shooting with a Blackmagic or Red, you aint shooting "pro." This set up if perfect for a student photographer or an pro-sumer intermediate photographer. Hell, its even good for a pro who wants some simplicity. Go shoot more, you'll change that attitude.

      @iphoneographers  Před 3 lety

      Definitely. I’m going to go more in-depth stuff. And it’s better (subjectively speaking) depending on what you’re doing. In basic terms it gives you a shallow depth of field that you just can’t achieve with a small sensor phone - and for many that indicates higher production value and thus higher quality. But there’s a lot more. And of course there’s advantages and disadvantages. Again I’m going to have more videos on this coming soon. :) Thanks for watching!

      Good question, I’m not exactly sure. It gets complicated since the iPhone wide is a 26mm (or so) 35mm equivalent, then adding the DOF and external lenses it does zoom in some, so it’s likely around a 40mm equivalent or thereabouts. • @iphoneographers
      @iphoneographers  Před 2 lety

      Never tried that. But you’d need to get an EF mount anamorphic or one adapted to that for it to work (or use other lens mount adapters). But then not sure about the edge vignetting. You’d want a longer lens for sure to minimize that.

    Need help!! I have got my dof mk2 adapter and want to use it with sigma lens 70-300 mm . Which adapter should i buy inorder to attach dof mk2 with my sigma lens ?

    • @iphoneographers
      @iphoneographers  Před 2 lety +1

      First, which mount is it? Sigma makes Canon EF, Sony, Nikon, etc… Or is it actually a Sigma mount? If it’s not Canon, then whatever it is you need to adapt it to Canon EF.
      Second, while telephoto lenses are good for this adapter, slow lenses are not. You want f/2.8 or faster. That lens appears to be f/4-f/5.6. If you shoot outside in bright light you’ll be OK, but anything inside you’re going to have trouble.
      And lastly, you can’t change the aperture on an electronic lens. You can still get it to work though by first using a traditional camera to set it wide-open, and then connect it to the adapter. That’s why manual lenses (and ideally cinema style) are recommended.

    Given what you were using, an iPhone 12 Pro Max which I have too, combined with that gear….I agreed, it is impressive, it is because that’s footage from an iPhone, however, the trained eye will pick up on the shortfalls and by the comments on here, seems like trained eyes have been at work 🤣…….there was one clip, you used it again at the end of this video, that orange circle thing…..anyways, on that clip the first and second time I watched (had to go back and recheck) there’s seem to be a clarity circle where the edge of the circle, that separates clear from blur, to me was significantly noticeable and intrigued me enough to write all of this. I have my wild guess as to why that it is but again, trained eye and what I saw is more of “I’m intrigued” than “pppsss what a crappy clip”…..hope that makes sense, once again, I agree, it is impressive.

      This setup is definitely not for everyone and the naysayers are primarily people that don’t use their phones for more cinematic stuff and/or they’re just using it for everyday things like vlogs or vacations or whatever. That’s totally fine & understandable, really wouldn’t use it for those kind of jobs.
