I'm so happy and relief to find this video, I have my first chinese crested, hairy hairless Chinese Crested and I want to do his grooming because he is extreme nervios and have separation anxiety. Such experienced tolerant cresties! I spend a good 2 1/2 hrs. doing my puff. He hates to be groomed and we are both exhausted afterwards, blah! You are so right to be extra careful doing the ears, once you nick one, they NEVER forget. You are amazing, thank you!
I have a hairy hairless, I rate hairless crested from 1 thru 9, with # 9 being very hairy hairless. On a 1 thru 6 rating ..those can get some bald spots as body hair grows out. I.m.o.the hair on hairless is silkier & more flyaway, the puffs have slightly thicker, slightly coarser hair than the hairless. I had both puff and #8 hairless at the same time so I know the difference) I'm sure this groomer knows the difference ( that explanation is for the commenter that contested whether this was a hairy hairless.) I groom my own dogs, I like the #9 hairless aka very hairy hairless and chose such because In the normally shaved areas I choose to cut hair down to 1\8th to 1\4 inch vs shaving and I dont want bare spots, I leave the mane long and I (V) shape it underneath. I cant show him that way though, but he looks gorgeous , he loves everyone & especially children who like more hairy dogs. This groomer did an excellent job teaching you how to groom a hairy hairless, that dog was so patient during his groom, you can tell he is used to it & enjoys the attention. The first time I took him my pup son to get a traditional crest cut he bumped up so back to where I haven’t been back since but he needs a cut bad and he’ll be one at the end of this month and that cut was back in May HELP❤

I have a Chinese Crested Powder puff and he's 9 months and wish he had that much coat .I'm keeping him in a full coat and he's a pet .His name is Randall
Hairless dogs have some teeth missing, while puffs have a full set so judges know when they look at the teeth and feel the hair, there is no confusion among judges. It is true that hairless are a defect but folks like them, they are rare much like a fully true white horse & the Albino horse but hairless cresteds were voted on & accepted as desired to be allowed in the ring to be judged. The canineknowleges' opinion that Rio is a puff is just that..an opinion. Plus puffs have a double coat. I did not see evidense of double coat on Rio before the groom. Double coated dogs have 2 diffefent hair texture coats. Hope ghis helpd clear up the confusion.
