Handel - Falsa imagine (Rosa Mannion)

Chegada em Londres no fim de 1722, a grande Faustina Cuzzoni recusou-se a cantar a ária "Falsa imagine", provocando uma das mais célebres cóleras de Handel. No entanto, foi com esta ária que ela imediatamente conquistou a glória.
Falsa imagine, m'ingannasti,
mi mostrasti un volto amabile;
e quel volto m'allettò.

ove gioie il cor sperò.

This is truly one of the great soprano voices of our time who has just slipped away from the spot light. How many times I play this aria and think only of Rosa Manion’s voice. Heaven.

This clip is from a t.v. programme called "A Night With Handel" broadcast in the 1990s on Channel 4 in the UK, and available on DVD. It was written & narrated by Jonathan Keates, a wonderful author and music commentator, and featured artists like Rosa Mannion, Sarah Connolly and John Mark Ainsley singing great arias & duets "on location" in grimy old London (where I live). The whole production re-kindled my love of Handel and reminded me how tied he is to this great and terrible city.

@prmberndt , muito obrigado por trazer de volta clips desse programa "A Night with Händel", que cheguei a gravar em VHS na década de 1990. Preciso apenas te dizer que a cantora para a qual foi escrita essa ária chama-se Francesca Cuzzoni. Sua rival entre as solistas de Händel da década de 1720 era a Faustina Bordoni. Mais uma vez muitíssimo obrigado pelo vídeo!
