    For 90 percent of your work as an artist 10 percent will be reciprocated. I've been in many bands and many projects and on a few albums. You need to make music as good as what you listen to. You have to imagine your favorite artists hearing your songs and imagine if they would listen to it or not. That's how you should measure your quality. My album is coming soon. I don't care if it makes any revenue but I know it will get listens. It's that good, you need to have self belief and perseverance. That is only achievable by satisfaction of your craft and moving forward/ increasing quality.

    Great advice! I have a question. What happens if you're succeeding in a style of music you love, but it's not enough and you have other projects that are in different styles that would be for a different audience. Does that require a different marketing approach? Being a versatile musician has always been my main value.

    • @addy.tpc8.24
      @addy.tpc8.24 Před 2 lety

      As a student of music business, I'll say yeah it will require a different marketing approach and if you're already succeeding in a particular style then it could get tricky because you have to make sure that those fans continue to get the music they fell in love with and also don't get turned off by the new style of music you're pushing 🤞🏽

    I just put out an EP in August and I dont mean this to come out the wrong way, but Im so happy and personally so satisfied with the output my producer and I put out that if no one ever heard them, id actually be ok with that. NOW. OBVIOUSLY, I would LOVE it if it got local traction, I would LOVE it if made waves and I got real fans and all that, etc. etc. (the unsolicited feedback has been positive) but the point im trying to make is that I dont need any feedback or outside validation from outside sources. I never ask for it. Because heres the thing ..there is such a huge glut content out there nowadays that a bunch of "likes" a few really "awesome remarks", while greatly appreciated, are pretty fleeting anyway. People have forgetten your post, your promo video, .0001 seconds after they "liked" it. So this is great advice. Keep putting the content out for yourself and let people "buy in" over time. Even *IF* you do have a break out song, guess what? People are gonna want more and quick. I would add to this video, get personally involved with your scene too.

    Adam, you just gave me the answer I was looking for. This is a question I ask myself a lot. All the initiatives I've started just for the money have (so far) failed. I always knew that what one of the things I truly wanted to do seriously in life was music, but ended up convincing myself that I needed to do something else to pay the bills. With that comes THE QUESTION: Am I cut out for this? Is a career on music something I should seriously consider, or rather keep that as an eternal hobbie I never have time to enjoy?
    Bottom line, I cannot appreciate enough your words and clarity. I've just found out that A MUSIC CAREER IS RIGHT FOR ME, because I'm willing to spend years of hard work despite of the results; Just doing it is on itself enough reward for me. Thank you for everything you do, and for all the amazing free content you put out there that is serving us so well. Peace!!

    I have a really difficult time putting up things I am afraid of being sub-par, but... I also tend to think my music is sub-par. This, in turn, leads me to have a large catalogue that most people have never heard. I think I'm up to like... 19 youtube videos or something like that.

    I've recently been trying to focus on my own music and the story I'm telling with my music rather than comparing myself with other artists already killing it. This vid really has useful info to help with that. Refining my expectation of releasing my first tracks from comparison of already established artists to just focusing on releasing more of a CATELOGUE for me is a great "penny drop" moment. Thanks for the vid man

    Thanks. The case you are talking is almost the same as my case. I'm musician from the 80's and I've been composing from the 90's, and I didn't take too much time to publish my work. I'm publishing from 2013 into the music online stores, and I'm not getting too much feedback. I'll keep working and creating more content, more music, more videos.

    I looked up Dan and found two songs. His website is not up and it was hard even finding his two songs on CZcams because it said there was no content uploaded. Anyways I think everyone has potential to do what they want... but you have to master your craft, pay for or make better beats/ production. The music game is hard and when I listened to his music I was kinda confused as a listener. Idk if rap is the best route for him.. maybe try some singing? Idk. But all I can say is get linked up with good producers. What you pay for is what you get. Being DIY is hard but you have to think about who you are going up against. Just my personal opinion. I don’t have a lot of stuff up on youtube (for now) but you can find me on Spotify and Apple Music, ect. I think Dan needs to get a whole image and brand to his music. Get a full package together with promos, videos, art work and so on. The two songs didn’t stick at all. I’m not trying to be rude. But if there was more content and more of a direction story/behind it, I might have found something that would stick. Just gotta keep plugging away. Just my opinion. Hope that helps. Like I said if anyone wants to check me out just search my name “Seanzy” on Spotify or Apple Music. I’ll be doing a lot more with CZcams later next year. Just haven’t touched it cause my focus have been on other outlets. Anyways.. good video. Much love.

    Dan. Soundcloud is good. Hashtag search your own genere. Find songs that you legitimatly like. Like and comment those tracks. A lot of them may even return the favor if they enjoy your stuff. Make it about them. You won't see results overnight but you'll make progress and actual friends/fans.

      AlRockAlternative MotivateGrow Sounds like you’re trying to create a fan base by liking other creators’ content. Doesn’t sound realistic. Adam’s talked about this, but this was to expand your network. I think it would require an actual musical collaboration with more popular artists in your genre to do what you’re suggesting (attract their fans).
