I’ve been living and working (teaching English and French) in Guadalajara, Jalisco for four years now. Thankfully it is up in the mountains so you don’t have to deal with the humidity of Puerto Vallarta, though we can drive there in three hours for a long weekend if we want.
I’m Irish and Mexico is the ninth country I’ve lived in. I love the food, the climate and the people. And it’s pretty cool that I now have fluent Spanish to add to my French, German and Italian.
I would encourage anyone to give Mexico a try. Me encanta la vida aquí (even though I do miss the smallness of Europe).

Thank you for your comment. A lot of people here in PV are from Guadalajara and go back and forth. Being here for a more laid back vibe and there for a more metropolitan lifestyle. Now that they’re building that new highway it’ll be very quick and easy to go back and forth also. The climate is definitely nice and cooler there! I’ve heard a lot of Europeans say they missed the “smallness” also. All in all, I couldn’t agree more- a truly great place to live!

Beautiful interview, but in my opinion it focused more on the challenges. It would be nice to know, what made them click with Mexico to stay, What are the reasons thay made them stay? The rewards of staying? What do they think about Mexico and Puerto Vallarta now as compared to when they first arrived or when they were at their home country.
