- Testing the new USB shifter that was released by Moza Racing. This shifter will work with any setup on PC as it acts as a separate unit. I also tested the cheap eBay shifter and TH8A shifter so I will be comparing it against those.

Hey Goose, there's actually a set screw for the tension on the thrustmaster shifter that very few people know about, it's on the side of it a small hex key

Exactly, came here to say this. You can make it way stiffer to move like a truck shifter would be almost.

It's pretty clear that the MOZA stuff is built/designed for a full racing sim setup, desk setups are an afterthought. That being said, it is nice that you can still mount it to the desk if you want. Saving for the MOZA stuff as we speak, I really like their wheels and bases, and they keep killing it with all the peripherals. Excited to try them out.
If you want something sturdy to hold it all down and don't have the money to ball out on a full simrig I REALLY recomend the Next level rancing wheel stand 2.0. You can later upgrade it to become a full simrig

you're on your second direct drive wheel, you have a mountable handbrake and shifter as well, it seems like the only logical next step is a wheelstand or a rig. at like $250 for a nice wheelstand with the option for a seat add-on to make it a full cockpit in the future, you can definitely justify the price (especially compared to the TH8A pricing). i use the wheelstand 2.0 from NLR and the ergonomic difference coming from a desk I M M E N S E
i have 350$ play seat with moza R5 it's really good and feels more realistic than setting in chair

This video did help me for which type of steering I should get for my setup
For your table setup, a Frex would be perfect. It comes out further than the TH8A and has 4 buttons! And the shift feel is amazing. I recently upgraded from the TH8A the the Frex and the difference is huge. The price is kind of high, but not crazy like the super high end stuff like ProSim. It's a good middle ground between entry level and full on pro level.

Never heard of the Frex.. I’ll have to check that out! We need more middle of the road products for sim racing. Most of us are already in thousands just PC alone haha. I’ll definitely be checking them out!

@@MassBred88 I guess to some it wouldn’t be middle of the road but to me… yes it’s a middle of the road shifter. Compare it to Simucube and ProSim then you’ll see.
the ebay one is perfectly sufficient. In fact i think the clunk sound into gears is 10x more satisfying than both the moza and thrustmaster shifter. As far as reliability goes? i know a lot of people that have them and haven't really dealt with any issues. Like handbrakes, its not a complex piece of equipment to actually make thus making the room for error pretty low and inexpensive. I'd say save your money, buy an ebay shifter and save for the gear that counts

Th8a is very flexible you can rotate the mount and shifter however you want. I have it at like a 45 degree angle away from me (on a rig not a desk)
Also did they increase the price or something? iirc it wax 150 when I got it...

I've had an eBay shifter for about a year with no issues, except sometimes I miss 3rd gear it could do with a stronger centre detent, but other than that great value

just so you know, there is a whole range of shifters lightyears beyond those you showed. price reflects that too tho... immersion cost's a lot of money... curious to see if you ever are going to see the benefit of a top level pedal set? that's the upgrade that will benefit you the most, even more so then a good wheel base and steering rim.

Hey Goose, could you please tell me out of thoose three shifters which one is the most car-like to shift with?
Honestly TH8A, I don't know what cars other people drive but nowadays most cars have pretty soft shifting, at least mine. However in motorsport the stiffness is most likely a lot higher.

I think you can make the moza quieter by attaching the foam bits that came in bag on the gear numbers
I like the trustmaster one, looks like a very good quality product and the design is good, NOT HEAVY
The pinky test worked better than I expected on showing how stiff it was. It should return.
goose should def make a "budget" setup with all his old or cheap items and compare it to what he has now.

Also if you don't have a sim rig. You can also mount the shifters on a wooden box next to your chair to have them closer to you and it'll cost about the same as the clamp or even less

You can easily fix the reaching thing if you buy a small table or an L shape table that way you can easily use the ebay shifter and the mosa shifter

I spoiled myself the other day and I bought the th8a, really not disappointed by the quality. AAAAAAND just received my R5 bundle today, I'm really amazed at how it ouperforms the G920, big fan !

1st: The new shifter is insane and a lot cooler and more realistic
2nd: You should get a little table next to you to clamp it. It will be helpful because you wont have to reach like that

I’m currently using a Thrustmaster and really enjoy it, I’m on a GT Omega ART cockpit! The Moza one looks really nice though so I may look into grabbing that in the future! Or the Fanatec shifter!

If you get a sim rig, you can mount the shifter in a more natural position to your side... :)
I would love to have a steering wheel handbrake,shifter and sim harness (rig) setup but that will never happen in my situation 😢
i recommend putting your shifter and handbrake on an backup table like if you were driving inside a car
Late comment but the Thrustmaster is designed to be mounted to a desk so its a given that it will have a more "outwards" feel. The other two shifters are more "higher end" and those are 100% designed to be mounted to a sim rig, which is why you need to buy or attach the desk mounts seperately! Just throwing this in here for anyone looking into the hobby.
the moza shifter being heavy to move is more realistic as i have the shifter on my rig, it also feels the same as my commordore vf ss

You really need a playseat or something similar, goosey. A nice rig for all of your accessories. The shifter would feel a lot more comfortable if you had a proper set up. Great video though.

cant u just take the ebay shifter and put the clamp on the other side im pretty sure it will stand much much closer than the thrustmaster one
i have the ebay one and it holding up perfectly fine. And I man handle the thing and its on my cheap sim stand which vibrates alot. No problems whatsoever. Its the same as your but with 7+R gears instead of 6+R.
Calvin Legend.. Do you have any issues with mapping ur shifter in reverse.. I have the 7+R shifter and it works great but will not go into reverse. i have been upside down trying to find a solution. plz help.
