- Louisiana's Republican Governor, Jeff Landry, wants to rewrite the state's constitution, and the state house just voted to advance the bill calling for a constitutional convention.
The bill is now headed to the Senate for debate. If passed, the constitutional convention would take place in August.
Dillard University political analyst Dr. Robert Collins spoke with Roland Martin about the outlandish plot to rewrite the Louisiana state constitution.

This is why I say over and over again, we have to vote in our state and local elections. It's easy to give into despair, because of our discontent for the presidential election. This is their strategy, to tire you out so that you don't even show up to vote. And if you think this will only affect Louisiana, you are sadly mistaken.

Boycotting is not the answer. Black folks have to vote. Less than 30% of Black folks are voting in Louisiana and we have significant numbers in that state. They are about to change the constitution. What is boycotting going to do. In fact they want most Black folks to leave the state. Boycotting is not enough. We are too far behind now. The US constitution once said Black people were 3/5’s of a people. You can’t boycott that. You have to change the constitution. We’re thinking too weak as a community and republicans are running roughshod over us.
Only 17% of black folks voted last year in Louisiana.

I'm from Louisiana and we don't vote in small elections only for presidential vote. Cause we don't have a chance cause we at work or occupied with other things. They going to do what they want either way.

We are asleep politically in Louisiana. Poorly educated, unaware of social issues and smothered in conservative ideology as well. The church is very influential in the black community here. Churches are everywhere here so I believe political organizing in the church is our only path.

I am a Democrat living in St. John Parish. A few weeks ago, I went to vote and found I had been changed to a NPA. I was not allowed to vote. My district has been changed. Black people please vote. I do not intend to bow to anyone but JESUS. I grew up in this Parish and I do not know what has happened to the people here. What I do know is China owns a big chunk of the businesses here. I found this out by doing research.
Amazing how quickly they can move to get that done.

Kip Holden was the mayor of B.R. for years and he's from North Baton Rouge's Scotlandville area, which is 99.8% black and not once has he came through with any promises he made. Milford Wampold park near LSU has more crime cameras, than the rest of the city combined under his watch.
