How Open Health Data + AI Can Improve Your Life | Marzyeh Ghassemi | TEDxMIT

  • If you use technology, you likely already benefit from AI's recommendations for photo sorting, email writing, or driving directions. But would you want an AI to diagnose you? New innovations in AI mean that models can often surpass humans in overall performance, but these models - trained on human data - replicate human biases against subgroups. How do we take AI+Health to the next level? Dr. Ghassemi argues that its all in the data! Dr. Marzyeh Ghassemi is an Assistant Professor at MIT in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) and Institute for Medical Engineering & Science (IMES), and a Vector Institute faculty member holding a Canadian CIFAR AI Chair and Canada Research Chair. She holds a Herman L. F. von Helmholtz Career Development Professorship, and was also named one of MIT Tech Review’s 35 Innovators Under 35. Previously, she was a Visiting Researcher with Alphabet’s Verily and an Assistant Professor at University of Toronto. Prior to her PhD in Computer Science at MIT, she received an MSc. degree in biomedical engineering from Oxford University as a Marshall Scholar, and B.S. degrees in computer science and electrical engineering as a Goldwater Scholar at New Mexico State University. Professor Ghassemi has a well-established academic track record across computer science and clinical venues, including NeurIPS, KDD, AAAI, MLHC, JAMIA, JMIR, JMLR, AMIA-CRI, EMBC, Nature Medicine, Nature Translational Psychiatry, and Critical Care. Her work has been featured in popular press such as MIT News, NVIDIA, Huffington Post. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

This sounds fine and dandy, but even "anonymised" data can be fingerprinted to specific users if you have enough. Prove thick and thin that the data won't be sold or leaked, and I bet you're onto something.

No one has the control over gathered data. So if someone says "anonymised" he simply lies. Such a important data won't be lost nor will be stripped from most interesting - to whom they belong.

HEY PUBLIC LOOK! shiny wow future thing ''it's amazing'' oh but dam it! that useless system is holding back your better life with its ancient individualism self centered beliefs, all we need is a little bit of you, that's nothing, meaningless because the WORLD will be better.
hole AI actually being able to do what is claimed thing is an utter joke and its not even a secret fringe bit of info, but in order to hide the known danger of using the central tool that must an historically always has lead to devastation in socialism/communism in the current age, the public must think the world is perfectly in line an in complete agreement with a number humans used to represent it. the claim pushed is that AI given the numbers for the ppl going to a house party and it could tell you who you would have the most enjoyment engaging with during set party, 123 and 123 perfect friends. but humans go beyond just not working like that, liking someone in my experience hardly has anything to do with likes dislikes ect the true base of our friend choices is (to stop myself going on) we use MAGIC thats we struggle immensely to outwardly express description
