  • This is luxury with historic architecture and I really enjoyed my stay despite a few hiccups.
The hotel is referred to as the New Palace Hotel to distinguish it from the original 1875 Palace Hotel, which had been demolished after a fire caused by the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. This new one opened in 1909 and was the largest hotel in the world.
The historic hotel features authentic elements and modern decor, with a amenities that include valet parking, in room dining, a fitness center, and a heated pool with a sky lit ceiling. The pool is a rare find but be warned...the pool was occupied by kids the entire week of my stay with their parents taking up the few chairs that were available. If you were looking for a quiet read at the pool, experience --try going later in the evening. The pool is open until 10 pm.
One of the most interesting things to me at the hotel are two throne chairs that look like they belonged to royalty. Turns out these chairs were gifted to the hotel by King Kalakaua and Queen Kapi'olani of Hawaii, who often stayed at the hotel. The horse drawn carriages would have brought guests into the space which is now the majestic Garden Court where they host tea every Saturday afternoon.
The Garden Court Restaurant boasts Italian marble pillars under Austrian crystal chandeliers under a breathtaking 110 year old glass dome. The tea was our first hiccup. Watch the video for more info on that.
I spent a lovely Saturday taking the ferry over to Sausalito. This is a must do day trip from San Francisco. Sausalito brings together beautiful views, small town charm, and lots of food and shopping. It is coastal living at its best!
